woo hoo habu

I am flying on the front of my habu tank. Of course, I haven't really decided yet how I want the tank to look, but I'm not letting that hold me back from knitting away furiously.
I've decided not to copy the necklines from the asian tanks in Rebecca #26 (I just finished a keyhole neckline on Maggie, and I don't want such a closed neck as in the other tank). What to do? I thought about doing something like the front of Grace, but converting the cap sleeves to tank armholes would have been difficult to work out. Now I'm all about trying to work in a square neck with ribbed collar, one of the options in the totally cool 1000 Sweaters book.
And to make matters worse, I'm still not sure what sort of finishing I want to do on the armholes or bottom edge. The Rebecca tanks called for garter stitch in a contrast color (like black). I liked that idea at first, but now I think I just want to keep the habu yarn. Unfortunately, the yarn curls a lot, so some sort of edging is definitely necessary. What to do?
Hmmm.... think, knit, think, knit, knit, knit, stop thinking about it, knit more....

Alison, I found inspiration for a project I was working on in "Knitting on the Edge : Ribs * Ruffles * Lace * Fringes * Floral * Points & Picots - The Essential Collection of 350 Decorative Borders by Nicky Epstein" That and Weekend Knitting are the next "must have" books on my list.
I cannot believe how fast you knit! Love that Habu! Can't wait to see it finished!!
Thinking and knitting is sometimes a good combination, other times I like to be able to knit without any thinking! Is that the same Habu cotton that you sent to me? Its making a gorgeous tank and I'm intrigued about how you choose to finish it off..
how about a halter neckline? sexy....
Would a little crochet edging around the bottom and armholes work? I think you will want to keep it simple, i.e. no ribbing, hem, icord, etc. It is looking very nice!
Kewl...while we were on the yarn crawl last weekend we saw your Habu yarn and all said - hey it's Alison's yarn!!!
:-D
How about a little knitted lace ala Audrey?
What about a little seed stitch border as an edging? An inch or so wide.
Thank you for supplying information on the habu tank. I was starting to wonder what had happened to it.
I think you should try some knitted lace on the bottom edge. It would look fabulous with this yarn.
I leafed through Knitting on the Edge in my LYS and know that if you see this you will get some good ideas!
I agree that 1000 Sweaters book is awesome. I got it 2 weeks ago and haven't decided on what to knit from it yet because I love so many of the ideas, especially the neckline you mentioned. Also I just received a copy of Ann Budd's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns (I'm probably messing up the title but you know what I mean) and I want to do something from this too. So many patterns; so little time!
Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. I'll have to check out that edgings book!
