the wind up

I decided to treat my sore wrist to an evening free of knitting. Gotta take care of those hands! Still, it was pretty hard to keep them away from the yarn! So I ended up winding up the hanks of Koigu for my Vintage Knits wavy line sweater.

I love the colors even more wound up in balls!

I'm hoping to take this project with me on our September trip to Germany. Yup, the yearly trip to visit the inlaws in the Hinterlands (see my post from last year's visit). Don't you find it hard to plan your vacation knitting? I'm thinking this project may be good. It certainly fits the bill in terms of packing - not too much yarn, not too heavy to bring with me. But it might be a little fiddly, with a multiple-row pattern and color changes, for me to knit while chatting with the in-laws. I may have to bring Klaralund as a backup. (yippee!)

But what about Ava?? You know, to get an olympic gold medal you've got to finish her by tomorrow, rigth?

What about socks? They're so easy to pack and knit with while traveling.

Oooh, I can't wait to see that one finished! I love that pattern.

You should definitely bring Klaralund with you and I promise you will finish while on vacation. It is so easy to knit. There is no shaping whatsoever and it's some garter with mostly stockinette.... I'm using Addi 7s and it makes the stitches goes so fast! And I've been mostly watching TV and talking to my hubby while knitting it and I just finished the back last night and cast on for a sleeve during nap time. I think I may have knit a size too big (after checking out Sweater Design in Plain English from the library, as you suggest in your blog archives, and reading the first few chapters about the difference between how hand knits and cloth behave on the body. I'm 5'2" and usually wear a small in store-bought clothes with a few XS in some basic knit shirts from LLBean and why on earth would I choose a Large in Klaralund - chest size 38"? - I have no idea! It sounded roomy and I didn't think the small size would be big enough. Plus, I think the yarn might be too scratchy to wear directly on my skin even with it's silk content so I'll be allowing for another shirt. The stitches aren't so tight either, in my opinion at the recommended gauge of 8 sts/inch). Oh well, if I have to rip the entire thing out and start over it wouldn't be so bad since this is the easiest sweater I've ever knit - and the fastest.

you should definitely take klaralund as a backup. its mostly St. st. without shaping and just knits up before you know it. Not tedious at all. A great talk and knit project. You'll probably be able to wear it while you are away.

Not that I would know, I have only done a small swatch, lol!

I just love the color you are using and have tried to get my hands on some of it since the knitalong started and there is really not much to be found.

I swear, Alison, I'm going to buy a swift and ball winder one of these days! You are a stubborn one. ;)
