olympic medals

Now that I have my medal, I wanna give you one.

The original idea for the Herculean Effort knitalong was to give medals to the knitalongers with the best projects finished during the Olympics. Karen didn't end up doing her knitalong, but I loved that idea. Well, credit her great olympic spirit and my finishing high (six finished projects in August!) for the blue blog's first contest! I'd like to offer up a few Olympic medals (yarns, of course) to you other Olympic knitters out there. Just share with me what you knit during the Olympics and I'll put your name in the hat to win one of these...

Gold: 3 skeins Phildar Sunset yarn (color Dore, of course), which is very similar to Rowan Lurex Shimmer. You could make a fabulous scarf or purse with this stuff. It's most often used as a carry-along yarn to add a bit of sparkle to a project.

Silver: 1 skein Tosca yarn, a really soft, bulky wool/acrylic blend. It's a brand new yarn from Lang and this skein is color #5 with beautiful greys that will stripe like Noro yarns. This would make a wonderful winter hat.

Bronze: 1 skein Noro Silk Garden in a lovely bronze/beige/green colorway (#34). Silk Garden is the self-striping silk/mohair/wool blend that EVERYONE is using for Klaralund. This skein would make a pretty hat or could also be a start for a longer scarf or maybe even your own Klaralund!

RULES: Leave a comment to this post by the end of the day tomorrow (8/31) and tell me what you were knitting during the Olympics. I'm really curious to hear what everyone's been working on and how much knitting you got done. Be sure to include a link to a picture if you can. We love looking at pictures! If you don't have a picture or a website, just leave a description so we can imagine what you've been knitting. I'll toss all the names in a hat (or do something equally random) and pull out winners at the end of the week. I'll post the winners names and contact them by email for snail mail addresses. And you too can have an olympic medal! What fun!

My Olympic knitting-I started a sweater-and finished it (well, except for one sleeve seam)-out of Naturally Tibet (olive green)-using Fiber Trends pattern LL481-Lauren Lindeman-just a beaut of a pattern-the sleeve shaping is excellent-the only thing I did differently was to exchange the front border with a leaf one from Nicki Epstein's new book!

My Olympic Knitting: With Herculean Effort I finished two (2!) Tank Girl tanks from the Summer Issue of IK -- one turtleneck in Katia and one slit-neck in Paton's Fresco. The HE part was sewing 'em up and learning to do reverse single crochet for the edgings. I finished the second Olympic Week by starting the second 'fingerless' glove of a pair for my son -- in a neat B&W Kroy sock yarn. Phew!

Posted by: Marg at August 30, 2004 9:10 AM

I finished my Candy Wrapper lap blanket as well as my first pair of socks.

I even started my first holiday present. I wish the Olympics were longer, I haven't been this productive in ages!

I was making/finishing a Keepsake Shawl with the teenytiny KPPPM. :) The knitting (as in, my skill with it) is horrid, but the colors still look faboo, and when it's blocked, you can almost not tell that the whole thing is just a bit...er...skewed. :> Unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera yet, but imagine dark blue fading to purple to red to orange to yellow, and that's pretty much it. :)

I'm planning on Keepsake II: The Redux sometime soon, in all neutrals. Hopefully this time, I'll have learned from the last experience, and there will be, oh, say, an actual PATTERN to the thing. :)

I finished a crop summer top for my daughter (size 2) in Rowan Summer Cotton and completed a third of a winter sweater for my daughter (with three kids and a new house, this was the GOLD metal for me)!!

I like those medal-colored yarns. Fun idea!

Do I qualify if I only have one item?

It was meant to be started before the games officially began. But, due to many mistakes and ripping out, I only really got going on my sleeveless Phildar top during the weekend of August 13th.

The finished top can be seen on my August 27th Blog posting.

Posted by: Anna at August 30, 2004 9:37 AM

I knitted some Discosocks (does that count as two items?) and an umbilical cord hat, and worked like crazy on Big Boring Brown (which, incidentally, hasn't gotten noticably longer despite all the time spent). Oh, and I did a bunch of swatches for stuff that will require more attention than I could pay during the Olympics . . .

Posted by: chris at August 30, 2004 9:41 AM

My olympic knitting: At the start of the olympic I finished off sweet Miss Muffin, you've met her already. Then I also finished the blue and black beaded domino-knit purse.
http://heleneh.sprayblogg.no/160804100201_time_for_tea.html
Then I startet on a hooded sweater for my son. With 23 sts. on 10 cm that doesn't go so quickly in between work and everything. But I managed to almost finish the body, pocket, hood, weaving in ends and all, just need to finish off the edge around the hood.
http://heleneh.sprayblogg.no/240804092407_ikke_akkurat_s_veldig_spennende.html
I'll try to post a new photo of it so far, may be tomorrow.
My last olympic knitting is not much to brag about. I dug out the Banff I started before the summer vacation, and knitted the rib of the second sleeve.
http://heleneh.sprayblogg.no/260804204529_enda_flere_prosjekter.html
I REALLY hope to get the bronze medal :-) I've never let myself buy as expencive yarn as Noro, but I'd sure like to try it some day!!

Posted by: Helene at August 30, 2004 9:48 AM

I started before the olympics and haven't finished yet, but it was a herculean effort nonetheless --> my olympics project is my first lace project: birch from rowan 34 in kid silk haze. I've still got about 1/3 of the shawl to go, but all that time watching the olympics got me comfortable with the pattern and I'm no longer making mistakes!

Posted by: jessie at August 30, 2004 10:33 AM

I finished a sweater knit in Rowan Cotton Braid. The story is here: http://katie.typepad.com/katie/bel_air/index.html

Posted by: Katie at August 30, 2004 10:48 AM

Well let's see...I did the Friday Harbor socks (http://beatknits.blogs.com/karen_heinig/ scroll to Aug. 28th entry) during the second week of the Olympics. I also finished my ChicKami (photo also on blog) and knit about 80% of Lydia's poncho. I'm not the world's fastest knitter but I did enjoy knitting to the Olympics in the background! Six items finished--that's great! You are sooo fast (how are your boys doing with potty training? Ian is getting there, but it's slow going compared to my girls....)

Posted by: Karen Heinig at August 30, 2004 11:01 AM

My Herculean Effort: 1 turquoise woolly mohair corkscrew scarf, 1 hand-spun, hand-painted (not by me though) seed stitch scarf, and 1 4x1 rib hat with a knit rose embellishment (similar to Marnie Maclean's pattern: http://www.marniemaclean.com/patterns/FlowerHat/hat1.html). I also finished a pair of Making Waves socks for the Six Sox Knitalong, but hadn't started them before the Olympics. Pics will be on my blog tomorrow.

Posted by: Sarah G. at August 30, 2004 11:03 AM

Oops...meant to say that I HAD started those waves socks BEFORE the Olympics. Sorry for the confusion.

Olympic knitting - feather and fan scarf in linen... not finished yet but getting very close!

Posted by: diane at August 30, 2004 11:15 AM

The only thing I was working on during the Olympics was Madli's Shawl (from Summer 2004 IK). Pre-Olympics I had one border and one or two repeats of the center pattern done.

By the end of the Olympics last night, I had finished 20 repeats of the center pattern. 11 to go, plus the second border. In an ideal world, I would have finished it, but time was not on my side! I haven't taken a photo of it lately, but here is what it looked like after 12 repeats (just mentally add on another 8!): http://xaviermusketeer.com/knitting/photos/scarves/madli/madli2.jpg

Posted by: Natalie at August 30, 2004 11:21 AM

Audrey (rowan calmer) has been my olympic companion...we have experienced the highs and lows together both on the needles and television...We danced together when Paul Hamm won and cried together when the USA beach volleyball athlete paid homage to her mother...

it's been well, olympic!

That is a beautiful colorway #34.

Posted by: Heather at August 30, 2004 11:25 AM

I too spent the Olympics with Audrey but I also finished an Aran Pillow and a BOC bucket that had both been floundering in the WIP basket for too long. I love that "silver" yarn it looks yummy soft.

P.S. Boys are soooo much harder to potty train. My 2 year old daughter trained herself in three days. My almost four year old son still has acidents when he won't quit playing to go.

I certainly wouldn't call my efforts "Herculean", but they were noble. I started the Cabaret Raglan during the opening ceremonies, and by Saturday afternoon had the back done. I now have one sleeve and half of the front done. I also worked on Madli's Shawl, but I had a hard time concentrating on both the Olympics and the Shawl, so a lot of tinking went on. Check it out at YarnEnvy.

Posted by: Beth at August 30, 2004 12:28 PM

I finished more FOs in the last two weeks than I ever have before!

http://mousetales.blogspot.com/2004/08/so-im-loose.html This is my Not Sophie Bag, started long ago but mostly knitted durring the Olympics. It's in a nice bronzy color itself, with a blue stripe like the ocean around the island.

http://mousetales.blogspot.com/2004/08/fastest-fo-in-west.html And this is my slightly misshapen Not Sophie Clutch, created entirely in the last two days of the games.

Fun game! And where did you get your medal? I seem to be an idiot and am not getting it's significance...

Posted by: mouse at August 30, 2004 12:34 PM

I spent my Olympics knitting the Juliet Pullover from this summer's IK. I'm far from finishing it, but given that I am knitting it on #2 needles (around work, and getting my husband ready to go to school in NYC after selling our car, good-bye parties, etc.), I thought it was a Herculean effort just to have finished the back!

I've managed several inches on one of the sleeves as well. Photos on my blog: http://jcsparks.com/index.php?cat=9

On my blog (purlsb4swine.blogspot.com) is a shot of the front of my Dreamy Creamy (or is it Creamy Dreamy? I forgit) in Calmer. The pattern is Jstrizzy's own (jstrizzy.typepad.com)

Calmed me right through all the Olympian, Heavy Medal issues.

My companion to the Olympics is my SIL's Linda poncho made out of Berroco Suede. Although simple in design (garter stitch and two triangles stitched together), Berroco Suede has given me its challenges with constant twisting and an end stitch count of 164 sts. I am 3/4 of the way through and would probably need another Olympics to finish the fringe off! My finish line has to be September 8th as it's my SIL's birthday and this is her gift.

Posted by: Andrea at August 30, 2004 12:46 PM

what will i do without the Olympics?!!! I knit the Emperor's New Scarf from Tradewind knitwear designs. It is lush out of cashmere with the holes outlined in Plymouth's Electra. It is a little short (by design) and looks much better on my 5 year old daughter. Also did my first felted slippers from Fiber Trends--thought i was going to be hanging out in the laundry room for the entire Olympics. And I figured out the cuffs for my Harmony from Louet--almost done--only one more sleeve to go!!
But--I'm not sure I want to watch the football that will replace the Olympics......sorry no link, i am not that courageous!

I knitted some on a Prayer Shawl during the Olympics, but did not finish it. I did finish a pair of Black Purl Socks. They were started while watching the Olympics and finished while watching some movies. You can see them here http://goddess1.typepad.com/i_hide_yarn/2004/08/black_purl_sock_1.html

Hi Alison! I am half a sleeve away from sewing up my Olympic sweater. I've posted a photo here:
http://knittingaloud.blogspot.com/2004/08/progress.html
Gorgeous cardi, by the way! Nice job.

Posted by: Dana at August 30, 2004 1:24 PM

Hi Alison,

I worked on my red cardi (you know, the one from the Spring Fling knitalong...) and I almost made it to the finish line. I only have one sleeve to sew on.

I also knitted, and finished, a tank in Phil Ruban. But I don't like how it fits, so I ripped the top to add length and change the shoulders.

I don't have pictures of these garnment at this stage, but I have some of both of them in pieces! So come over and have a look! I should post about the demolition of Corail pretty soon...

By the way, you probably noticed that I moved my site from http://knitteronthemoon.is.dreaming.org to http://purelaine.typepad.com/pure_laine. I am now blogging in French... it's just easier!

Posted by: Deborah at August 30, 2004 1:26 PM

Woo...well, I managed to finish my Linen Drape, beads and all...made Amber with the Summer Tweed in like a week and a half and as of the closing ceremonies last night, finished the back of my Klaralunde. Oh, yeah, and I knitted up and felted a somewhat large coin purse (LOL) using a Starmore chart.

But no Knitter's ADD for me...nope...not me... ;-)

Posted by: Eklectika at August 30, 2004 1:41 PM

Watching the Olympics was such a fantastic excuse for me to sit on my bum on the couch and knit. It seems like I always need to justify sitting and knitting for some reason. Anyway, I started a poncho right before the Olympics started and finished it watching the women's beach volleyball gold medal game. Those ladies were so amazing!! I wore my poncho on a yarn shop excursion the other day and got so many compliments, which was a new thing for me since this was only my second real garment project. The pattern is from the Yarn Girls' Guide to Simple Knits and I used Bernat Denim Style yarn in a brown/white verigated. It's so soft and cozy and FRINGY!! Thanks for having this little contest....it's great fun!

Posted by: Kstalder1 at August 30, 2004 1:55 PM

I love a good contest. Here's what I've done:

1. sewed most of my pajama/lounge pants (minus the hem since I can't measure myself until I give birth to this baby and can get an accurate measurement of my legs!)

2. Finished front of DB Grace cardigan (Cotton Angora)

3. Finished booties for friend whose baby was born today.

4. Finished oh-so-blue fettucini scarf

5. Finished knitting CTH Noro Sundby.

6. Knit a reverse bloom washcloth (love it - more to come).

7. Started Lacy Sweater - Fall/Winter sweater from Adorable Knits... (Zoe Mellor) - finished back.

8. Sewed a Dora pillowcase for the Jessi

9. Finished Sweetheart Cardigan for Jessi

10. Finished front and back of Klaralund.

Made it to 37 weeks of this pregnancy today!! YIPEE. (Not that I could control this - but hey, let's celebrate it anyway!).

Oh and I started 2 pairs of socks (one for hubby and one for Jessi)

Posted by: Lisa C. at August 30, 2004 1:57 PM

I'm a returning (new) knitter. I finished up a scarf from Sally Melville's Knit book--in a gorgeous Tahki Poppy desert. I wore it to workshops for new folks and received tons of compliments.

And, I made a rush through the slit neck Tank from IK and the Yarn girls. It is in a yummy light blue silk/cotton blend from Classic Elite that I bought on sale from Stonehill Spinning in Fredericksburg, Texas. Just the finishing to go!

Plus I made it about half way through my felted bag from Hip to Knit.

Posted by: Amy at August 30, 2004 2:39 PM

1. I finished my third Charlotte's web. I think I deserve a medal because I had to remove all the fringe and remove one strand from each because I didn't have enough yarn. http://acunningplan.typepad.com/andsheknitstoo (see August 30 post for photos).
2. I resurrected my Noro Entrelace coat from the stalled pile (I hadn't worked on it in about six months). Since all those athletes can show dedication, so can I (http://acunningplan.typepad.com/photos/wips/anniversaryfront.html)
3. I started a nice cardi for me--which involves hauling around a huge cone of yarn (August 24 entry).

Posted by: Steph at August 30, 2004 2:56 PM

I've been knitting Alice Starmore's Cromarty with the Calmer originally intended for Audrey. I spent a good part of the Olympics ripping back and fixing a mistake on two cables (one of them needed fixin' twice)! Pics and lament mostly on Aug. 20 & 23 at http://knitorious.typepad.com/knitorious

Ava looks terrific!!

Posted by: Vicki at August 30, 2004 2:59 PM

Hi Alison! (That bronze is the very Noro I'm using for Klaralund!) My Olympic knitting has been my version of Stefanie's Bad Penny, which I began a bit before the Games started, and almost finished this weekend. Maybe tonight ~

Posted by: Maggi at August 30, 2004 3:02 PM

I started a poncho for my daughter Pearl, finished a sweater that I started months ago, and I delivered a 7lb 11oz baby girl.
(shouldn't that count for something?)

what a great idea for a contest!!!

Posted by: joy at August 30, 2004 3:17 PM

I started and finished a baby blanket for a family friend who is adopting their first child from Russia. It is my second baby blanket/afghan and I had a great time knitting this one! I agree with everyone, the Olympics put me in the knitting mood! Photos available on my Weblog:

Well, I finished ever-so-cute baby socks and hat out of the greatest hand-died sock yarn for my new niece or nephew. http://www.woolberryfarm.com/Weblog/archives/000173.html

And I just finished up this little bumble bee hat for the tyke. http://www.woolberryfarm.com/Weblog/archives/000178.html

Let me tell ya, it took an olympic effort not to start knitting until the second trimester!

Posted by: Laurie at August 30, 2004 3:19 PM

Oh, this is a fun contest!! I knitted a sparkly/furry hat for my daughter from start to finish during the Olympics; I finished Berroco's Tina with Mods; and I started a sweater I've named Plain Vanilla. http://nownormaknits2.typepad.com/now_norma_knits_2/2004/08/tinas_finished.html

My Olympic knitting? Well, I did complete one pair of socks, start another pair AND start and finish a cool Yarn-Harlot inspired poncho. Other than that, I have just been knitting staghorn-cabled strips for my strip sweater. Endless seaming coming up soon! I am not sure such modest accomplishments would merit a medal, but (ahem) it is an honor just to participate.

Posted by: Laurie at August 30, 2004 4:01 PM

Last winter I started a sweater for my hubby (if anyone has the book "Forever Favorites" it is called "Man's Sweater Coat" on page 12). It got set aside so I could finish some gifts for a baby born this summer and a niece getting married. But I had decided that after the wedding-gift-afghan, I would step up and finish the sweater so he can have it to wear this fall.

So as soon as the afghan was done, right about as the Olympics started, I pulled the sweater back out. I had everything done but the sleeves, so I set to work feverishly while watching swimming, gymnastics, etc. Those puppies sailed along faster than Michael Phelps can swim, and I was excited to start sewing up. I knew I'd have it done before the Olympics was over!

But when I started the sleeve seams, I discovered that they would be too snug to wear over a long-sleeved shirt. I double-checked the pattern measurements and decided the pattern was simply narrower than we wanted. So I frogged both sleeves back to the ribbing and started over. Shoot--I didn't have the sweater done before the end of the Olympics, but I DO have the satisfaction of knowing it will be just right when it's done. And I'll still have it done before the cold weather.

Posted by: Amy at August 30, 2004 4:08 PM

I finished Caryl's Kerchief for my stepmother, worked on my Sally Raglan in Koigu Kersti and finished two cross stitch projects.

Posted by: Nathania at August 30, 2004 4:26 PM

Hm. I got most of the way through a cabled turtleneck poncho in some gorge Morehouse Merino handpaint, finished a Mission Falls baby sweater (just have to crochet around the neck), started a multidirectional scarf for xmas knitting, started a plainish merino vest for the wifey, and koolaid dyed a Honeymoon cami I'd made for myself in a silk/cotton/merino blend that made me look like death on toast before I dyed it.

Posted by: Lisa at August 30, 2004 4:55 PM

I don't have my blog up and running yet, so sorry no pictures. Except for stitching him together, I got a little, bitty teddy bear done from the "Cherished Babies" book. Done in purple Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran. Boy, is he small (I think about 7" tall). Also did a lot of work on a round scarf from the "Knit Stitch" book. Only about 10 more inches to go! Done in Manos Del Uruguay.

Now what am I going to watch while I knit?

Hi! I made my first baby hat, which morphed into five with the last one having several cables. They all have rolled up brims and an i-cord topping. I nneded something easy because of our poor reception of the Olympics -- has to keep fiddling with the antenna!

Posted by: quenna at August 30, 2004 5:28 PM

I finished two pairs of socks (my first two pairs ever) and I finished the knitting portion of two scarves. One I'm still finishing the beaded fringe on and the other I'd like to find some bias silk ribbon to weave through it and use as fringe, but haven't had any luck at the local stores I've tried so far. There are pics over on my blog.

Posted by: Kristi at August 30, 2004 5:34 PM

It's so cool that you're doing prizes. I actually did do a "finish-along" with you, since it seemed like such a good idea. I started the Olympics by seaming Audrey together. The next weekend I polished off my Anouk baby dress (tons of sewing for that one - duplicate stitch on the pockets, little tabs and buttons - without the Olympics I might not have made it), so that I could send it off to the recipient before fall hits. And finally, I re-worked honeymoon and knit myself a cute little cami from the scraps I had left over from Anouk. (I've photographed everything, but only Audrey has made it to the blog in her fully completed stage - the rest you'll see later this week - unlike some people I am simply not disciplined enough to post daily!) It was totally productive and fun. I'm now down to 4 UFO's, which is right where I wanted to be for the fall - woo hoo!

I have been working on so many projects in this Herculean effort, and a few are still in the works.
Always on the needles for a break is my husbands noro sweater. A BIG project with some cool, intersia you can find in the archives of my blog for August. Finished the intarsia, and am working my way to the top...50 more rows to go to finish the front.
I designed and have been working up a pretty complex little purse with a knit strap and outer panels, a knit lining, and some fancy finishing. The last panel is about halfway done and it is looking really great.
Began finishing for a gift sweater for my neice and had to rip the seams and finish twice.
Started a lovely light sweater for myself. Done with the back and about halfway through the front.
Started a hat pattern for a charity cause, Adopt a Sniper. Started a knitting facet of the charity with a freind, and have been working hard to create a hat with a slogan. Still in the works.
Itty bitty Stuff: a bath puff, an eyeglass case, and a few squares for my doggie blankets.
Whew! I think September is shaping up to be just as intense! All these projects are shown in part on my blog in various finished states.

Posted by: Amy at August 30, 2004 7:07 PM

My Olympic knitting: I designed and started to knit a cabled shawl! This was the first thing I've really designed myself. You can see/read about it at my blog.

Posted by: Kat at August 30, 2004 7:14 PM

I knit a pair of fingerless gloves with glove thumbs, trying to convert the broadstreet mitten pattern for smaller hands. I used Misti Baby Alpaca in rust heather. Oh, and I spun some heathery purple angora/merino blend, but that's not knitting. Pictures might happen eventually, if my roommate finds his digital cameras.

Olympic knitting has been wonderful! I finished my Making Waves socks in Regia, a pair of Wristers in Koigu and have nearly finished my second Broadripple sock also in Regia. I needed one more field hockey game to get them done! Photos are on my blog: http://nothingbutknit.blog-city.com/

I worked on Sam until I shelved it for a cool-down period. Then I worked on Mon Petit Chou from Knitty (watched the lace more than the athletes) and lots of baby hats. There was a felted pink tote. And I started Paula.

Posted by: Jessica at August 30, 2004 8:31 PM

I finished a poncho. It is stockinet with every 9th stitch dropped at the end and the rectangle sewn together. It has this really cool ladder effect. It was knit on size 10 needles. Using two strands of patons grace cotton yarn. The dimensions of the rectangle were 24 inches x 60 inches before the dropped stiches and nearly 30 inches x 60 inches in the end. It witnessed most of the men's and women's gymnastics competitions.

My olympic knitting included a pair and a half of thick socks out of 1823 wool, Fiber Trends berry hat, and Phildar Famille pattern "Debardeur 4b" (aka 'Kate').

I loved knitting during the olympics! I was able to complete more projects in that short two weeks than I had in two months!

Wow, Alison, there really WERE a bunch of contestants out there putting forth their various Herculean Efforts! I myself completed a poncho:

The '06 Winter Olympics are in Torino, Italy: http://www.torino2006.org/index.php?lang=en ("528 days to go!") February is prime knitting season for those of us in the cold latitudes/altitudes! Let's all of go for the gold in '06!!

Ooh, a contest, fun, fun. My olympic knitting included a secret pal gift -- it started out as a book sweater, then I put buttons and an i-cord handle on it, and now it looks much more like a chic little red purse. I also got cracking on my daughter's back to school cardigan -- Knitty's ChildHood in Lamb's Pride perfect purple and RPM pink. Then I got really crazy and started a cross-stitch project! Good for you for all your finishing, Alison!

Started and actually finished this vneck pullover - it is the oyster colored one on the far right. Adrienne Vittadini in lilac Natasha yarn. A great garment! Olympics spell fast knitting. http://www.yarns-and.com/fabrics/AVittadini/AVFall03Pre.jpg

During the Olympics, I finally finished my Audrey! (http://knit.dawnie.com/archives/000328.html)

I also started a Honeymoon tank but, sadly, that hasn't come even close to being done yet.

I finished two Projects made with Multicot / Lana Grossa. A flower pullover for me and a raglan for my daughter (last sunday). You may find pics at stricksucht.de topics "Blumenpulli" and "Saskia-RVO" :-)

My major Olympic knitting event was in the Gift-Giving competition, in the scarf division: I knitted a simple bias scarf out of Colinette Mercury in Lichen (so I suppose it would be the bronze). It's a back-to-school gift for my mom, who's a teacher.

I also started and ripped a scarf out of Great Adirondack rayon ribbon in Raspberries about...oh, 5 times? If I spend that much for a hand-dyed ribbon, I'm definitely going to find just the right pattern for it.

(Lest you think that I'm only a scarf knitter, or that I'm slacking, I'm about to move, so I haven't had much time to knit, and I haven't wanted to start any big projects. But I do have a Charlotte calling to me...sigh.)

I started and finished a poncho with Patons Divine as a present for my sister, finished a poncho with Manos for myself, and started and finished a minisweater from Glampyre's pattern. :) I also got a tiny bit done on Haven, from Rowen's Denim People, which I might very well still be working on when the winter olympics roll around in 2006.

Wow, what fun to read about other folks' fo's! Now I have a bunch of new projects to add to my ever growing "to do list"! I did finally manage to finish a few projects and start a few others- thank you Olympics! I knit 2 multidirectional scarves, one in Silk Garden and one in Shinano, knit a humungous, giant tea cosy, which will be felted as soon as I get around to it!, a twizler-top hat from Minnow Knits (well, it needs an applied I-cord, but I can't figure out how to apply it so it may just get some other kind of edging) and started my first ever cable project - a baby sweater with a cable design from Elsbeth Lavold knit in Silky Wool -great stuff, I just love it. I only wish it was a bit bulkier 'cause I'm a near instant gratification kinda knitter. Now I'm hoping for a wonderful fall TV schedule because I have a bunch of finishing to do!

Cheers,
Sara

I worked on and finished (well, I totally seamed last night) a sleeveless top (Zillah in Jane Ellison's Simply Noro) in Noro Cash Iroha and Noro Silk Garden. Pictures of WIP on my blog, pictures of FO will be up tonight. The FO is beautiful but what's up with Silk Garden? I kept having to cut out bits of trash yarn everywhere! In the midst of the pink there would be a GIANT GLOB of chartreuse!

I started and finished a pair of 'Fuzzyfeet' and a French Market bag.

Thanks for running a contest -- fun fun fun! Despite having a one and a half month old, I managed to knit during the olympics! That's medal worthy already in my opinion. :) I may just have to go get myself a medal. Anyway, here's what I knit and finished:

* A second bottoms up bucket in Cotton Ease for Fluffa's knit along
* A swatch for my Arla cardigan in Noro Iro
* Berga, a purse from the Noro book, in Cotton Fleece
* Aura, the semi-famous Calmer cap

Here's what I knit and didn't finish:

* The pooling colors scarf is making slow but sure progress
* Paris Loop is making faster progress with the giant needles

Almost all of this is shown in the last two weeks of posts on my blog: http://knit.blogspot.com

Does Olympic crocheting count? I actually started two projects during the Olympics, but one got put on hold for lack of yarn (I had to order extra). I started knitting the Knitwhits Flore hat during the opening ceremonies with intent to finish it. Yarn tragedy aside, I fell in love with the Blue Heron beaded rayon and the new IK Crochet magazine, and started the Salon Capelet on Thursday (8/19) and wove in the last end just as the president of the IOC officially made his statement to close the Games. :D As soon as I have a willing model, I'll have pics up on my website of the finished fabulousness! :D

If you ask so friendly, I have to tell you...
I made this for my sister's baby David, who was born last Sunday.

There is only one problem - I live in Germany. So if you mind the shipping costs you may leave me out of the lottery, of course.

I was IN Greece during the Olympics (but not at the actual Olympics, too crowded and expensive unfortunately).

One thing I finished while watching air rifle, hammer toss, and all the other wacky events you never see on regular American TV can be seen here:

I also worked on a mohair scarf in a discontinued Lang yarn, but I ran out and couldn't finish it. And I made a sock, my first ever, that was a disappointment in the end.

Fun contest--thank you!

I am a brand new knitter, teaching myself to knit from the Stitch N Bitch book. I finished a blanket for the Critter Knitter project (I know I am late but I didn't learn about it til it was almost over!LOL) and almost finished my first scarf knitted on 7's with a beautiful eyelash yarn from my LYS but forgot to keep the ball paper thingy. Plus had to go buy bamboo needles cuz the yarn keep slipping on the alum. needles I was using.

I stared a sweater coat for my daughter and have the back and 1 sleeve done. I am also working on a lace stole that has an 8 row pattern. It is going to be at least 72" long and is 18" wide. Current progress is over half complete. I'm loving the yarn it is by interlacements 100% Rayon (Ric Rac). Great stuff.
