weasley yarn

The weasley-along is almost here! I'm getting my yarn all ready, don't you know.

I'll be using this Felted Tweed for the boys' "H" sweaters. I got the yarn at a Wild & Wooly sale this January. I'm using up stash! Yeeeeessss! The sweaters will be in the grayish green and the navy blue colors and the golden green in the middle will be for the H's.

And to get me in the mood, I just started rereading Goblet of Fire which was my favorite of all the HP books. I'm in the process of rereading them all (I actually had Prisoner of Azkaban with me on the flight over to Germany when they showed the movie on the plane!). If I remember correctly, the weasley sweaters get another mention in either Book 4 or 5. I'll be keeping my eyes open!

[Update: Looks like the Rowan HP pattern is proving hard to find. The Colourway link is too old and doesn't really lead to the shopping cart. Helene reports: "I asked our Norwegian Rowan importer, and she told me that the pattern had been withdrawn because the royalty to the HP-people was so high." I bet that some copies are still hanging around at local yarn shops though. The trick is finding one. Otherwise, there's always the kits (yarn and pattern) from Yarn Warehouse.]

Are they both getting Hs or will they be getting a B and a S?

Great colors, and super yarn!

Ha! I wondered who beat me to that felted tweed! [grin] Glad it went to a good home. My own daughter has asked for a Potter sweater, but being a purist, she wants one with a lion as described in the book. Luckily, I've got graph for one squirreled away.

Oh yes, "H"'s for everyone!

Kim, I've seen one of those lion sweaters online somewhere - way cool looking! Too much intarsia for me. I'll stick with the easily duplicate-stitched "H". ;0)

Hey, I've been taking HP quizzes on line off and on last night and this morning. Try Scholastic's Wizard Challenge, be sorted at sorting-hat.com, and be sure to go to the official WB homepage to search the Marauders Map and play some games!

Speak of the devil, I happen to be currently re-reading the entire series, and just happen to be in the middle of a book called Goblet of Fire right now as well! Last night I read the part where Dobby gives Harry his Christmas gift - two bright, hand-knitted socks. And he'd been saving up to buy the wool. (Aww!)

I'd be a little interested in joining the knit-along except for the fact that the sweaters are always described in the book as pretty awful. Not exactly literary knitting incentive, there. ;)

I've already started swatching... that doesn't count as starting early does it? I haven't actually made anything, just figuring out needle size. I really like this Felted Tweed stuff. It feels *gooooood*.

my computer apparently did not want to refresh your site this morning and i was just about to send you an email saying "WHERE IS MY DAILY DOSE OF ALISON?" And then it finally refreshed, phew.

More sweaters in Book 5. And Hermione knits hats for the house elves... The book makes them sound ugly, but I'm sure they will be very cool by the time the movie comes out.

Those sweaters are going to be so great. I wonder how many people will "get" them when they are worn.

Did you get your pattern from Yarn Warehouse? If so what size? Are the sizes in inches or centimeters? And what exactly are the measuring?

The lion graph is mine:

I put it out on the web quite a few years ago, long before the movies. I got a lawyer letter telling me to cease and desist naming the book involved. So I did. It was to my extreme amusement to see the book's description of the sweaters simplified so much in the movies. It was as if the costume designers thought that movie viewers wouldn't believe that someting as complex as a heraldic lion could be hand-knit.

Goblet of Fire was my favorite, too! I've yet to see Prisoner of Azkaban; just waiting for my sister to bring it when she comes to visit me next week. Wooooooot!

Carrie, I have the Rowan pattern. There are a couple of people who have ordered from Yarn Warehouse already. Check out comments to my first weasley-along post to see who was ordering from them and maybe you can find the info you need on their sites or even contact them. It does look like the sizes they give are chest/bust measurements in inches. Let me know if you decide to join us! :0)

My kit from Yarn Warehouse arrived yesterday, only six days after ordering. Anyone familiar with British pattern terminology? A couple of instructions have me scratching my head. What does "Mark armholes at nn cms" mean? Do I just place a marker, ot do I actually decrease a stitch or do as per general armhole shaping?
You can see a photo of what's included in the kit at my blog.

Hi Alison!

I just wanted to let you know that Sophie's Yarns in Philly had the HP Sweater Pattern in their sale basket for $1!! I picked mine up 2 weeks ago. Not sure if they do mail order, but am sure if someone needed it, they would be happy to send it out.
