sleeve peeves

I'm having a hell of a time sewing up this pop sweater! Attaching the one sleeve neatly has proven very difficult. I'm not sure if it's the texture of the yarn or the what, but I just have not been satisfied with how it's been coming out. I've ripped out the seam so many times that the piece of yarn I'm using is already starting to get thin! And let's not even talk about sewing in those two little peek-a-boo pieces. I have no idea what I'm doing there. But I am determined to focus on the positive, so I would like to point out that now that the sleeve is almost in, the stripes do indeed match up.

just one sleeve done, so this is the only angle where I'm decent!

Green light to knit sleeve number two. Whew, knitting again - what a relief!

Hi Alison,
I've been reading your blog off and on and do not recall if I've ever left a comment on your blog. Anyway, though I've read about your pop sweater I had no idea that it is the exact sweater I finished earlier this week! I've made mine with Oxygene in noir. Yeah, I know BLACK. What a pain it was to make up. The interesting part is that they (Phildar) do not give you any idea how to sew the yoke pieces to the lower front. The English version of the pattern gives no translation of the techniques used to sew up pieces (unless you can read the French instructions given in the magazine). I sewed the yokes to the lower front on the wrong side with a whip stitch being careful to not let the stitching show through the right side. Luckly it's black. Also, Oxygene is stretchy. Even though I knitted it to the exact length, when I wore it it tended to "hike up" so that the keyhole doesn't always show. Still, I love it! One more thing, I've had few to no problems seaming in the armhole. By the time I finished seaming the first sleeve the second went in quite smoothly. It was just a matter of getting the ratio of rows to stitches right near the top of the sleeve cap (now I can't recall how I did it, sorry!). Hope all goes well with yours.

Is this the sweater with the "keyhole" cutout from a Phildar Fall magazine. If so it really is much more interesting with the color changes than the black version. Very creative interpretation! I like.

I teach as well as knit. It's good to see someone here in the bay state as obseessed with knitting as I. Many of my young students are really getting into it too. Have made hats for students in my homeroom. And for my husbands swim team. Keep on knitting.
