socks in the city

Getting ready for the first two pair of socks to be. Variegated and solid Koigu to become socks for my great aunts (yes, the recipients of the now infamous hotties). I don't really like knitting socks, but somehow I've managed to put four pairs down on my christmas knitting list (they do make good gifts). I'm hoping to get a good start on my pair-a-week plan this weekend on my next NYC knit trip. I can't seem to stay away long. This weekend's gonna be all about hanging with my nyc knitbuds.

Jenn, Jackie, and Cari at Rhinebeck

And knitting socks, of course.

Socks in the City! You are worse than me with the puns these days. Who knew that was possible? ;) Thanks for the note. I need to get my butt back into Brookline. I blame it all on the kids . . . and Pete . . . and the house . . . heck, let's blame Stella, too, while we're at it. :)

Whew! Four pairs of socks is four pairs too many for me; I recently blogged about my dislike of sock knitting. But your multicolor yarn looks almost nice enough to tempt me. Good luck!

Maybe they'll grow on you, the socks that is...Well, not literally grow on you, but you know what I mean...

The color combo looks great as well!

To help you get through your sock knitting, you might enjoy reading Pablo Neruda's poem, "Ode To My Socks". You can find the complete poem at http://www.beautifulwords.com/html/body_socks.html. I love the ending: "beauty is beauty twice over and good things are doubly good when you're talking about a pair of wool socks in the dead of winter." You've inspired me to knit a few socks for my Christmas gifts!

Tuesday is knitalong day, and I was planning on showing you my two finished Banff sleeves. But due to overtime 6 out of the last 7 evenings, I'm only half way on the 2nd sleeve raglan decrease. Photo next time... i hope...

Have fun at your knit trip!

I have made lots of socks over the years since my family likes to wear them. However, I don't enjoy knitting that much either, so my new way of making it more pleasurable is to use ebony double pointed needles when knitting them. The needles were a bit pricey, but well worth the investment since it makes the sock knitting experience more fun. I also have a sock on the needles at all times and just knit on it when I need a small carry along project. This way I made several pairs a year, but it doesn't feel like it is taking me away from my projects that are more fun.

My last post had an important missing word, I meant to say I don't enjoy knitting socks that much, not that I don't enjoy knitting that much. In fact, knitting is my passion!
