tuesday is knitalong day

Another week, another "H".

And the boys still love them: "I touch it, yeah?" I'm hoping that wanting to touch the "H" will translate into wanting to wear the sweater. I've got visions of them unwrapping the sweaters Christmas morning and slipping them on over their pj's. Please, pretty please.

Other Weasleys hard at work: MA has started a sleeve. Ann finished the "B" on the front of her sweater. And Tami is just about to start the intarsia!

And just when you thought these knitalongs were dead: Peggy finished her pooling scarf. It's incredible! Check out pic #3. No new updates from the Banffers (Helene promises that she'll come through next week!), but fellow sweatpant knitalonger, Wendy, seems to be making a Banff now - check out the sleeves. Cat finished her no sweat pants and the tiniest tea cup ever for the tea party knitalong. And, get this, we've got a spring fling finsher: Deborah finished her beautiful red mohair cardi. Wow - well worth the wait!

Those Weasley sweaters are beautiful! I really like the blue and green one. The "H" stands out nicely!

I'm hoping the same thing about a sweater I'm making for my son. So far, I haven't had much luck getting him to wear anything handknit *sigh*

Your Weasley sweaters look great! I love that felted tweed :)

That H is just beautiful! I need to start the front of mine (once I finish that sleeve which is going to need to be much longer than the pattern says I think!) so that I can get to the intarsia!

Hi Alison,
Thanks for the compliments on my pooling scarf!
Your Weasley sweaters are great. Could you add me to the knit along? I just got my kit in the mail yesterday.

ali...i barely made it out of purl last night with my credit card in tact...can you say "koigu-a-go-go"? i almost bought the "weasley" yarn...might still yet. there's always tonight...also heading to strings and downtown yarns...am i on a business trip?

Alison, your sweaters are beautiful! I am always inspired by your projects. My son's name is Harrison, and I never thought of knitting him one of these sweaters before, but seeing yours... I would really like to. And I'd like to join the knit-along. If that's okay. If it's not too late. So if I am reading correctly, you are using the Rowan pattern? Besides the gauge thing, are you liking this pattern?

I tried to swatch for the sweatpants last night. My 10 needles were available for a bit (I'm using my size 10 needles for Banff and I'm in between pieces now.) It looks like my Bamboos won't work with this yarn. Plastic on wood doesn't flow as it should. I'll have to pick up a pair of Addi Turbos, darn. Aren't those sleeves hilarious! So much yarn in such huge sleeves...

Amy Lu, yes, I'm using the Rowan pattern. It's older (from when the first HP movie came out) and is hard to find now. The couple of online links I found of the pattern are to stores that no longer have the pattern in stock. :( But the Yarn Warehouse in the UK is still selling kits with the original pattern together with their original yarn.

Check the yarn stores in your area to see if they might still have the Rowan pattern. There might still be some out there!

Being that my nickname is "h" I really really want a weasley sweater...or at least a weasley scarf! :) Very very nice indeed

I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like better. I bet they'll be able to do magic in those sweaters.

Great sweaters!

What's your thinking on giving the kids gifts that they've seen you working on? I made my daughter a poncho that she really liked when I was working on it and when I tried it on her when it was done. It's off with my friend for use as a sample for a while, so she might forget she saw it previuosly (she is only 3). It seems strange to put it under the tree for xmas now though, since she's already seen it.

Hey MA, don't forget that you'll get some extra sleeve length from the drop shoulders. You might not need to lengthen too much.

Awww, Michelle, how sweet!

Nancy, I don't think my boys really understand that I'm actually knitting sweaters for them. I've told them that, but they're definitely still too young to expect them to be in the presents under the Christmas tree. I think they'll be excited when they see the "H"'s in a box and really grasp that they are for them. Of course, they'll have to open them first before all the cool toys! ;0)

Alison,
Sorry, one more question. Is the pattern that the Yarnhouse carries the Rowan pattern, or their own? I have called about 10 yarnshops today, several in WI, the one in PA, one in VA, one in OR, etc. Everyone *had* the Rowan pattern, but no one seems to have it now.(some think they still have it, but have no idea where it is in their shop ) I'm expecting at least 6 shops to call back. One shop an hour from here said she thought they had it in their sale bin, but they have over 200 patterns in there, so she wasn't going to look for it for me. I'm so bent on getting the pattern I was considering loading my two toddlers in the car to look for myself, then I regained my senses. If anyone knows of a definite source for the Rowan pattern, please let me know. Thank you!

the weasley sweaters are very cute! i am still working on my teaset, one of these days it will get finished!

I found it! I found the pattern! I have spent the day (yes, I'm a tad obsessive) calling around (around the United States) and Sakonnet Purls (located in Tiverton, RI) had one copy left. I ordered the Felted Tweed in the color Conker (a rusty red) and I will use color #136 for the "H". (recommended by Stephanie at Sakonnet,it's a discontinued color, a yellow-green.)

I think I've officially exceeded my parenthesis quota for the day.

How exciting Amy Lu! I'm so glad that you found it. Those colors sound great too. I'll add you to the knitalong list.

The "H" looks marvelous! Great intarsia work, Alison. I probably would have "cheated" by using duplicate stitch.

P.S. My husband gifted me with the three latest HP films on dvd, and I had myself a mini movie watching festival last night! Now I really want a Weasley sweater.
