caution: stressed out elves with pointy sticks
Sock knitting crunch time! The elves managed to finish another pair of socks.

click to peek, unless you're expecting socks from a secret pal ;0)
Yes, the cashmere socks are done. They are so soft and featherlight. And this pair fits! But there's no time for celebration and no rest for the weary elves. On the needles now is the last pair of Koigu socks.

This is the solid pair, for the more reserved sister of my Crazy Great Aunt Mary, who's getting the crazy swirly Koigu socks that I finished last week. I've got to send these off next week so they'll be sure to get there in time. The elves have a December 15th deadline. Faster, elves, knit, knit!

I happen to know that you have some of the fastest knitting elves around, so I'm not concerned. My elves have procrastinated, so I'm resorting to many, many indvidual sweater ornaments!
Go! Elves, Go! You can do it! :)
Geez Louise! Are you sure that you don't have the boys knitting for you :-)?
Love the blue Koigu.
Cashmere socks. Ohhh, so wonderful! Can you tell me exactly what kind of yarn you used so I can make some of my own?
I'm so impressed that you're making actual *socks* for gifts! Makes me feel sheepish in my size-17-scarf-making-madness. ;)
I can't believe that this month is flying by! I too, have got to get my hiney in gear and get presents off to the post office! Ugh.
Happy Knitting!
Crazy question: What brand of dp needles are you using? I like the way they look! Last year I was dreaming of a "sock filled" Christmas; where did the year go! I was never able to make knitting time when my twins were that age.
Are you feeding your elves their chocolate?
Neat. I love the color of the Koigu.
Sure Liz, I used a space-dyed cashmere/nylon blend boucle yarn from School Products in NYC. They import surplus yarns from Europe, which means they don't always have the same yarn in stock when you come back. But I just got this in November, so I bet they still have some. It comes in hanks of about 300 yards, which is enough for a pair of socks (and is a steal at $15/hank!). They do telephone orders, so if you're looking for the same yarn, give them a call. There were some beautiful variegated colorways as well.
Rebecca, I LOVE my little dpn's. They're Bryspun needles from Australia. They're made of some sort of bendy plastic and so are flexible and very light. They're nice and short, which I prefer when knitting socks, and have a good point and hold the stitches well. I have several sets that are a sort of off-white color, but just recently my LYS had some that are an almost translucent white. It's the white ones that I've been using to make all my socks. Here's more praise from a few Knitter's Review readers. They are on sale at elann.com and Patternworks.
