Here's how it'll go: You get a name, address, shoe size and some color/fiber preferences and knit a pair of socks for your secret sock pal. Someone else gets your name and info and does the same for you. We all send our socks off around the appointed date (maybe the first of March?) and then enjoy our fabulous new socks! Couldn't be funner, right?
Leave a comment if you're interested and I'll start collecting names and email addresses. Once we've got a good number of participants for our sockapalooza, I'll close the sign up and start collecting all the pertinent info. So sock it to me!

sockapalooza
I'm game for the Sockapalooza! :)
I'm game for socks, that's easy bus knitting ;)
How fun. Thank you for organizing this Alison. Please include me.
I'm game, although I've only ever knit one sock before.... I promise to knit a pair for this though : )
Whoops - screwed up my url on that last post. This should work now. Thanks!
Me too, me too! I would love to join a sock-exchange.
Can I ask one thing though? Could people measure around their foot circumference (around the ball, ala PGR style)? And include that measurement? And then they could add if they have extra long or extra short feet, extra pointy toes, extra blunt toes, 6 toes, you know, that sort of stuff? (grin)
Maybe just shoe size and foot circumference.
Ooooh, fun! I'll sockapalooza with ya!
*throws her hand up in the air Hermione Granger style* Ohhh me! I want to sockapalooza with you as well! What a fabulous idea! And I vote for as many measurements as possible!
is it allowed to participate even i live outside the us?
Sounds like fun to me... okay just sounds like an excuse to buy more/knit more fun sock yarn. I'm in!!
I'd love to do this, however I'm just getting started on sock knitting...can a new sock knitter really knit a pair of socks in two months?
What a fun idea Alison, count me in :¬) Nothing better then sock knitting to start the new year!
What fun. Please put my name on the list.
i love it! thanks for volunteering to organize it. please count me in :)
This sounds wonderful! I'm in!
I would love to participate -- I love to knit socks. Is it okay for a nonblogger to be in on the fun?
It sounds like fun. Sign me up!
Oh! I've done something like this before, and still am wearing the socks I received! Count me in.
Thank you for organizing such a fun exchange, Alison. Please add me to the list.
Oooh, this is tempting. My thing is that I've made exactly two socks. Ever. And they don't match. I'm working on a third. So my question/major insecurity is: What if my socks suck compared to someone else's? Will we be matched on relative experience, so that my beginner's socks won't be received by, oh, say, YOU, and leave you wondering what the heck I was thinking? :)
p.s. the third sock? doesn't match the other two. completely different patterns. I'm calling it research/experience-building. Ahem.
oh gosh, how can I NOT want do this?! I'm in. Fun fun fun! Sockapalooza, here we go...
^_^
Go on then,Mrs.''I hate knitting socks'' ! :0)
I'm so in for sockapalooza! But I'm not really experienced with sizing other than S, M, L, XL. Will I still be able to make a fab pair that someone will be thrilled to receive and wear?
Count me in. Is it okay if I am still learning to make socks?? I have made one pair, but they were for my 19 mo old son? I hope that is okay. But I would have until March to finish them and get them off, and now Christmas knitting isn't in the way either!!
sounds like fun, but I have the same concerns as eliza b... ??
I knew that you'd be starting a new knitalong after clearing the decks yesterday. I didn't know it would be so soon!
I might be interested - although I've NEVER knit socks before! The tiny guage scares me a little. I've knitted hats, ponchos, mittens, and am working on an aran sweater. Is it OK for me to join (I am not sure if I am experienced or not - I can do pretty much any type of knitting without trouble, but I am not nearly so quick as most people I see blogging. And I'm a student.)
But it sounds fun!
sounds great, count me in!
Sock-it-to me baby! I'd love to join the Sockapalooza. I'll be happy to give what ever measurements of my feet are necessary.
I'm just getting over a sock knitting spree -- can you ever really get over sock knitting sprees? -- and would love to join in the sockapalooza. Thanks for organizing the fun! I just finished a silly experiment, The Grand Experiment, where I compared a sock knit in the Classic cuff to toe style to a sock knit in the Eastern European toe to cuff style. Check out http://nonaknits.typepad.com/nonaknits/project_the_grand_experiment/index.html
for the details.
Same question as Sybille, is it allowed to participate even I live outside the US? Even in Europe? Yes? Then count me in.
I wanna do it! I wanna do it! Socks are my favorite!!!!! Fun fun fun!
I like the March deadline too. Maybe the ides of March???
Wow, that list is long already!
Me and my small feet would like to join the Sockapalooza too :o)
I am definately interested in sockapalooza! It sounds so fun!
Not this time, (I'm trying to keep myself free for awhile) but I'm going to REALLY ENJOY watching this one. What fun!
If it's not too late and if it's OK if I'm not in the US >> I'm in too !!
thanks for hosting this !
Count me in too! Love these swaps!
Dawn :)
Okay, I really need to finish my own socks but I am game. But since I do a variation on Wendy's toe-up pattern could I second the motion for having some measurements? It is musch easier to figure when to start turning your heel when you know a number.
twist my arm (no, don't need to twist it)
Please count me in toooooooo!
Hi Alison,
What a great idea. I hope it´s possible to join the sockapalooza even though I'm a nonblogger, and also living in Europe.
Another Canadian here -
Reading blogs inspired me to knit my first pair of socks this fall, but I've got more on the needles, and yarn in the stash! Sockapalooza sounds like fun!
I'd be game. When and where?
(this sounds like fun!)
oh that sounds like fun! count me in
Hey, can I join even though I don't have a blog? I would like to!
Ok, ok...I'm in. The Ides of March sound like a doable date.
Please, add me to the list. It sounds like fun.
I'd really like to join you guys, if someone is willing to ship overseas. But I'm a bit conserned about the shoe size thing. I don't think we have the same sort of numbers. For instance, I'm a size 38, does that mean anything to you...???
I'm soooooo tempted! But I doubt I'd ever finish the second sock. I'm a lousy sock knitter :-(
P.S. Lucky, lucky, LUCKY whoever gets Emma's socks. I've been wearing the ones she knit for me all winter and there's nothing like wearing hand-knit socks, especially the fancy ones she knits. This is going to be a fun knitalong to follow!
Can a crocheter participate? (I promise my socks are nice! I just need foot length and circumference, and maybe a leg circumference at the desired height.)
Me too please! Thanks for being the organizer.
Me, me, me! I vote for as many measurements as possible, too. Great excuse to buy more yarn :-).
Count me in. Socks are the one thing I can finish on a deadline.
btw..one sock knit along had the person measure from their heel to the big toe, instead of shoe size then there shouldn't be confusion on different sizes..hope you don't mind me putting that in ;0)
Oh, Me please. I want in on the sockapalooza. I'll never get around to making myself a pair, but I can fit time to make someone else a pair - especially with a deadline!
April
I love socks. Count me in. I too am a nonblogger I hope that is okay.
Oh Allison, please count me in!!! I have some Koigu that is just screaming for this socka-pal-ooza :-)
I'm interested! Please sign me up. This will be my second pair of socks... although I'll probably make a "practice" pair to keep.
Oh boy, if the participant pool isn't too big already I'd love to jump in!
OMG! I hope I'm not too late! Of course I'm in!
i would LOVE to join the socka-pal-ooza!
If it isn't too late, and you're not too overwhelmed, I would love to join in. It would be my first knitalong and I would feel like I had truly joined the cyber knitting community. just started knitting socks this holiday season and LOVE it!
oops, messed up my url on the previous post, is a pastry blogger allowed to join in the knitting fun?
can I play even if I never knitted a sock before? I do not think that a sock for a doll counts ....
Count me in! Sounds like fun!
That sounds great! I would love to join!!!
Add me to the list Alison! Sounds like fun.
:)
Count me in, please! Hope I'm not too late!
I'd also be happy to help if there's a huge sockapalooza response and you want to start a second group! It looks like there will be a LOT of folks on this list!
Wow! How fun! Love to be part of this fun project. Please count me in!
Thank you!
OK, OK, since I recently joined the sock knitters movement, I'll do it.
I don't have a blog,but would love to join....can I?- Carla
Ooh! Ooh! *waving hand frantically* Count me in! I love knitting socks and have only knit them for me so far. This will give me some good practice in "knitting for others", lol! :)
I'd love to do sockapalooza!
oh, i'm SO in! i've always wished someone would knit socks for me... ::sigh::
good knitting at work, too. as the rounds are short, i can get in a few between clients!
Boy, you've really gotten yourself into this one, haven't you? I'd love to join in. No blog (yet) but I've been following along close to a year, now, though.
sounds like a blast!
I've been re-bitten by the sock knitting bug recently and I would love to participate.
I would LOVE to get in on this sock exchange! Please, please let me play! What a fun idea!
I'd like to be part of the sock swap! By the way, this is the first time I've ever left a comment, but I love your blog.
Hi,
can I join? I recently bought some sock yarn from an online supplier and am starting on the sock knitalongs right now.
Sounds great! Please count me in - I'm in the UK and happy to ship anywhere! Gill
Wow, this is cool! I'm game, though I'm also new to sock knitting..
I'd love to take part - can I still join?
Happy New Year to you and yours
from
Beate in Frankfurt/Germany
Out of the frying pan and into to fire! I'm so-o-o into this one. Count me in! Been a while, but I've been itchin' (pardon the pun, yes they do sometimes itch depending on the wool) to sock knit. Hope not to disappoint and come through with some well fittin' ones by springtime!
Read about this sock exchange at Pollys website... I'd like to join too.. I love knitting socks.
IDA
I love anything with palooza in it, and have acquired enough sock yarn to start my own shop. I would love to join.
How about 101 participants...? Please oh please say I'm not too late, I love knitting socks!
Amy
wow, looks like i'm #102 - but feel free to defer me to a second round if there are too many people. :) i should have signed up yesterday! :)
sounds great! i love to knit socks. just hope i'm not too late...
Dang... are you up to 100 already? If you're still accepting folks for the sockapalooza, I'd like to join in!
A friend of mine recommended I view your site. I love the idea of the sockapaloosa. How can I become a part of it? Do I need to join the Blue Blog and how do I do that? Eagerly awaiting your answer.
I haven't checked your blog over the holidays, so I only just discovered your sockapalooza. I understand if I'm too late, but I thought I'd try anyway! I think this would be fun!
Me too! I love making socks. Fat ones, thin ones, short, long.
I'm counting on some of the comments being from people who don't want to participate. I'm comment #108 though so if I don't get to participate, I understand. I really want to though!
Alison,
Hello. Yours is a daily read, but this will be my first time posting. This project seemed simply too momentous to pass up: I am a non-blogger [the largest reason for my self-imposed no posting rule] and have 2 separate socks in the WIP pile. I hope to seize this opportunity to make myself start a blog [been in the dreaming stages for months now], get the sock momentum train rolling AND participate in a swap. Three birds, no stones, just sock yarn.
I know that I am #106, but I counted up to 7 repeat posters or declines, so I think I should be good. If'n not, another time then.
Thank you, thank you for the consideration and the daily inspiration.
I'd like to be included if it's not too late!
I'd like to join, in, too,if I'm in the first 100.
So bummed that I didn't read yesterday! Long time reader, first time post. I'm delurking long enough to hope I might squeak into the first 100!
Wow! You mean I can actually have someone knit something for me! Sounds great. Let me know if I made the mark.
please please please dont let me be too late... (btw i'm in the UK)
What a great idea. I hope I am not too late either. Just saw this today.
Count me in if it's not too late!
I'd love to join if its not too late. I've been knitting for a while, but have only done baby socks so I'll belong in the beginner sock knitter catagory.
will knit socks for others!....
is it too late?
are you over your head in sock-makers?
I'm in if there is still room! I'm loving knitting socks!
The beginner swap is a great idea, and if you do that count me in! I've only made a couple of socks but I LOVE doing it.
Hi Alison! I hope I'm not too late, I'd love to join in and I LOVE knitting socks!!
Hi Alison-
I'd love to join! Is there any room left??
I'd love to join if there is room left as well! What a great idea!
If there is room left let me know!!!
I am not a blogger. Been knitting for about 9 months now & am obsessed. I have made 2 pair of socks that turned out great so I would love to do this. How do you all seem to get to know each other? The other thing is..does this work. I joined a cross stitch thingie one time & worked on several then one person hung us up & we all never got our project back.
Okay, we've reached 120 and I think I'm going to close things down for now. If this sock exchange goes well, I'll be happy to do another one in the future. Fingers crossed!
And thanks for the incredible response!
I'd love to join in but I'm only a beginner. I've been knitting scarves and and afghan (see my blog for info). Socks sound ambitious :)
Let me know :)
Yes, please. If there's room!
Has it already been capped? If not, I'd really like in! I'm willing to co-host the overflow if you need help. Just send me a note.
I would lo0o0o0ve to join in. :)
I'm closing comments now because we've got plenty of sock knitters - over 120! Thanks so much everyone. If this round goes well, I'll be very happy to organize another.
