tuesday is knitalong day

weasleys

Tania's weasleys! Eklectika's weasleys! Orli's first weasley! Tami's weasley! Four cheers for weasley knitters - hip, hip, hip, hooray! Awesome job, gals.

sockapalooza

Everyone in both groups should now have a pal. I've updated the list of sockers. Check the list to make sure that you're on it and your blog info is correct.

Can you believe that some knitters (like Illanna) are already finished with their socks?! Wow! Please hold on to the socks until March 15 though, so we can all send them off around the same time. And those of you getting started, share your progress with us or direct us to your blog for updates by leaving a comment here to each week's "tuesday is knitalong day" post. 150 people is a lot to keep track of, so it'll be better if you pop by here and let us know that there's progress to see. Thanks! I can't wait to see all the socks being knitted out there.

february is for fixing

Got a few knits gone wrong? Need to rip? Need to reknit? Fall in love with those projects again this February by putting them back on the needles and putting them right. It's a February fix-a-thon for inspiration and commiseration!

Count me in for the "fix-a-long" and thanks for keeping us motivated!

Hey I am Jennifer fromt the beginners sockapalozza and my blog is not listed. Can you fix that for me?

Thanks!!

Posted by: Nyxxie at January 18, 2005 9:24 AM

I started my first sockapalooza sock this weekend. They are coming along slowly on size 0 needles!!

Posted by: Jenika at January 18, 2005 9:27 AM

I started my socks last week and am about halfway down the cuff of the first sock. I'm doing a self-designed sock, and I'm super excited with how it's turning out. I don't have pictures up in mt blog yet, because I'm thinking of submitting the pattern somewhere.
I also snapped a size 1 Brittany working on these, sadness.

Posted by: Jessica at January 18, 2005 9:39 AM

Hi everyone! I started my socks, self designed but nothing too crazy! It's slow going for me too on size 1's but I'm loving the colors and I think I picked the perfect yarn for my secret sockster. At least I hope!!

Alison, since there are three Amy's, if you want to update the list you can call me Amy W.

Posted by: Amy at January 18, 2005 9:50 AM

I started my socks this weekend despite not even finishing my own pair of socks I am working on. I was too excited to get started with these! It will be slow, on size 0s, but I'll post progress on my blog tomorrow.

Posted by: Jackie at January 18, 2005 10:40 AM

I scoured the LYS this weekend, but they didn't have anything suitable. :( (Oh, they had a reasonable amount of sock yarn, just not any plain sock yarn.) I've placed an order online, and am waiting for my yarn now. :)

Posted by: Andrea at January 18, 2005 10:40 AM

I'll be fixing! Since you first came with the idea I've been thinking about what needs fixing or repairing, and IT'S A LOT! I keep putting this off, so I guess this is just what I needed!

Posted by: Helene at January 18, 2005 11:01 AM

Hello, So Feb. is fix-a-thon, huh? I guess now would be the perfect time to fess up about the poncho at the bottom of my knitting closet. I decreased totally wrong, and didn't even notice until I was 5 inches from finishing. I spent $60 on the yarn (it's for Iris), so I really should fix it. I've been hoping it would fix itself, but no luck. Add me to the fix-a-thon.

Alison, you sure are good at keeping us busy! (you make the yucky stuff fun!)

Posted by: Amy Lu at January 18, 2005 11:16 AM

Hello! I'm one of the beginners too and my blog is also not listed. If and when you get the chance, can you fix that for me? Thanks! :D

I haven't started on my socks yet, as the yarn is on order. Once I get it though (by this weekend allegedly) then I'll have some progress to report next Tuesday. :)

Posted by: Lisa P at January 18, 2005 12:41 PM

I need to fix Sam. I still need to take it apart, rip out both fronts and reknit it. Hopefully I can finish my Sockapalooza socks in the next week or two and be ready to start in February.

Posted by: Jessica at January 18, 2005 1:05 PM

I've got yarn ordered for my Sockapalooza pal! I'll start knitting as soon as I get the yarn in!

April

Posted by: April at January 18, 2005 1:50 PM

I'd love to join in the fixer-upping! I have a pink cable cardi that has embarrassing wavy button bands. A few evenings of attention and I could wear it again. What a good idea!

Posted by: Emily at January 18, 2005 2:43 PM

I ordered "Canadian Hockey Socks" from RamWools for my SockaPal. Can't wait for the mail!

Posted by: Gina at January 18, 2005 2:47 PM

Hm, you know the cardi I mentioned in my other comment? Sounds perfect for February Fix Up! Its buttonholes and buttons need fixing as well. I am so in.

Posted by: Daphne at January 18, 2005 2:50 PM

I was so thinking about a fix-a-long for your idea for February. You read my mind. Count me in, I am redoing a pattern from Vintage Knits, and it's the 5th time on the needles. This will be the last.

Posted by: Jenny at January 18, 2005 3:01 PM

P.S. Alison I'm having a contest for sock yarn. If anyone wants to play, have 'em come on over. Thursday night I'll announce the winner...

Posted by: Jenny at January 18, 2005 3:04 PM

I went to my LYS yesterday to buy yarn for the sockapalooza socks, and somehow ended up with enough for 6 pairs since I couldn't decide... :) Got help on choosing and got started today, though. It's my own pattern, and 2 mm needles.

Posted by: Kristel at January 18, 2005 4:07 PM

Socks finished ! Eek ! I've only just decided what I'm doing. ;-]

Posted by: Emma at January 18, 2005 4:08 PM

I have started my socks -- a cable pattern -- and I am knitting these in a luscious emerald green merino wool!

Posted by: Karin at January 18, 2005 4:35 PM

I've decided on the pattern and the yarn for mine, just waiting for the 2.75mm needles to arrive. Hopefully I'll be up and running next week.

Posted by: Mary at January 18, 2005 4:59 PM

I've started my sock pal's sock, although I'm worried it might not fit. There's a pic of the progress on my blog. I'm gonna get a second opinion about the size and if she thinks it won't work, it is a good excuse to buy new yarn and try a new pattern for my sock pal!!

Posted by: kim at January 18, 2005 6:16 PM

I am in for the fix-a-long. I have been putting off fixing my sweater for a year now. This will give me a good reason to bring it out of storage.

Posted by: Nancy at January 18, 2005 6:46 PM

well, I'm about to start my 5th sock! Or, rather, I'm about to start the first sock for the fifth time!

Posted by: Timothy at January 18, 2005 7:01 PM

Sockapalooza sock is coming along nicely--on size 0 needles, it's also coming along SLOWLY. But it's very pretty, especially as I'm getting more forgiving of the spiral stripe that's developing...but that's Koigu for you. :-) No pics yet.

Posted by: Erika at January 19, 2005 1:48 AM

Thanks Alison! so far I've loved your's best though they are all FAB!
As it happens I'm my own worst critic and though I do like my weasley, looking at the others I wish I would have adjusted the pattern I was following and added some ribbing as I think it give a better finished looked than just stockinette the whole way.

Posted by: Orli at January 19, 2005 1:51 AM

So there I was on a plane from Denver to Boston. We upgraded to 1st class with miles, since it is so hard to get a free ticket. In row #1, was a man, probably mid-30s, alone with a young child, probably about 18 mos old, blonde. WEARING A WEASLEY. Who was it? No female knitter in sight. I told my husband that kid is wearing a weasley. I just as well might have been speaking russian. "A what?"
So there is a weasley sighting for you!

Posted by: laurie at January 19, 2005 6:51 AM

Thanks for the sock updates, everyone!

Laurie, how cool! I wonder if the knitter responsible for the weasley was one of the knitalongers. Will we ever know???

Posted by: alison at January 19, 2005 8:33 AM

Aaack! WHAT people have finished ALREADY? I haven't picked the colors (waitin' on a color card that's going to be delayed) but luckly I have a pattern in mind. Hopefully I've not gone over my head in picking a challenging pattern. It's color and I'm not great with color. I'm getting nervous already.

As for the February Fix-a-thon, I've already started one that's been in limbo since 2003 due to overzealous and overconfident design alterations. Past two weeks have been reknitting EVERY SINGLE PIECE! So far, I'm down to the sleeves. So count me in on this one too!

Posted by: Shirley at January 19, 2005 8:46 AM

Count me in on the Fix A Thon! I have a summery top that needs totally different shaping on the top. And there's a chance I'll be steeking my Lopi pullover into a cardigan...

And I'm almost done with my very first completed sock. This one isn't for my Sockapalooza pal - I thought I'd do a practice pair for myself first. Pictures coming.

Posted by: Sarah W. at January 19, 2005 5:00 PM

Wow! It's so hard . . . after all that work . . .to do it over. Thanks for having the courage to admit mistakes and give us the inspiration to try, try again!

Posted by: Helen at January 19, 2005 10:50 PM

Well, I'm already fixing something, so I'll be watching along to get inspiration from all you fixer-uppers! Good luck!

Posted by: Donna at January 20, 2005 8:37 AM

Well it's progress of a kind... I decided on a pattern, even if I dont have the yarn for it yet. Mmmmm pompoms.

Posted by: Anna at January 20, 2005 5:16 PM

Count me in, although I may need much more time than just the month of February!

Thanks for hosting!

Janell

Posted by: Janell at January 21, 2005 1:22 PM

I'll be fixing in February too, finally!

Posted by: Gina at January 22, 2005 11:05 PM

I definitely would like to join the fix-it-along. Oh, this is finally the swift kick I need to buckle down and fix a sweater that has been haunting me for months. Thanks for the encouragement!

Posted by: christina b. at January 24, 2005 10:07 AM

What a great idea for a knit-along, count me in! I have two (purchased, gift) sweaters on needles -- one to fix a too-long turtleneck and one to rework pleated (dear god, why?!) shoulders. They've been that way for months, thanks for the inspiration to finish!!

Posted by: susan at January 24, 2005 2:56 PM

I'd love to join in the Feburary "The Fix Is On!" Please do count me in!

Alison, thanks for hosting.

Maribun

Posted by: Maribun at January 24, 2005 6:21 PM
