dreaming of socks

My sock yarn from the Knitting Zone arrived and the colors are just as fabulous as I'd imagined. I simply could not resist the bright green, orange, and yellow lorna's laces. As much as I love them, I could never wear them, but I'm pretty sure that my mom would love some bright, bright, bright stripey socks for the spring. (My sock pal dodged a bullet there, huh?!) I'm thinking about this stripey pattern that I keep seeing on some of the Six Socks gals' pages like Dawn's and Alison's. (Note to beginning sock knitters: check out the other sock tutorials and free sock patterns at the Hipknitism site. They look good!)

After perusing the sockapaloozer sites, there are a few more socks I'm dreaming about:

Retro Ribs in Lorna's Laces China Blue, just like Anja is making.

Marks & Kattens Clown socks in the orange/pink colorway that Cara is using (Brenda made some socks last yearn in this yarn. It's so pretty.).

Peppermint socks, like Jenika's.

Some cable socks, like Maeve's, or Nicole's (I've already ordered the book the pattern is from!). Or maybe the cable rib socks from the new IK (look, Liz has already started these!).

Wait a minute. What have we here? Erika's cable sock is fabulous, but do you see that Poetry in Stitches cardigan?! I've just stopped dreaming of socks.

You've become a sock-making junkie! Weren't you the person who never wanted to make socks? Well, we're glad you've converted -- think the new L.L. will work up wonderfully in the stripe pattern (a safer bet than a hat for your mom)!

socks... just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in.

oh what wonderful yarn. I finished my first sockapalooza sock today and will post a picture in some minutes. Funny that Nicoles sockpattern looks just like mine.

I have had a lot of fun working the Stashbuster Spirals sock. It's my favorite sock in the 6SoxKAL so far. Your sock yarn would look lovely in this pattern.
Of course it would look great in almost any other pattern too! Good luck making the choice!

So many lovely socks. Those are some great colors of lorna's you got. They'll look perfect in the striped pattern. Is the purple going in too or are you saving those for you? :)

I know this probably isn't the best place to post this, but I really need to know! Are the plaid mittens made for women or men? Will the pattern fit my boyfriend? He's 19. Gah, help! lol
Thank you :-)

I love the colors for your Mom's socks. Scary but true, my house is painted in various shades of purple, orange, yellow, and green -- not quite as bright as your socks. I've really liked knitting with the Lornas Lace Sock yarn - the subtle color variations add a lot of depth and interest. I look forward to watching the progress of these socks!

Your comments are too kind--I may have to send you the Poetry sweater, as I have looked at it half-knitted in my basket for more than three years and it has gotten a little old to my eyes. But as I get closer to the final rounds for the body, I can feel those pink and green happy vibes. With everyone's nice comments, I *will* muster the strength to complete it!

The Knitting Zone sells Lorna's Laces? I can't find it! Do you have a URL to the LL?

Posted by: Alison at February 14, 2005 11:08 PM

Oh yes, Alison, they've got everything! They have the Lorna's Laces listed under Shepherd's Sport and Shepherd's Sock, the names of the individual yarns.

Delish! LifeSaver colors!

I swear, one day I will make a sock. It's going to take some Lorna's Laces to do it.
