march 1, 2005

tuesday is knitalong day

Big update today! First another finished weasley! After making one for her son, MA finished one for herself. With an "R". Awwwww.

- - - - - - - - - -

On to a wrap up of the February fixins, which definitely won't end with February. Cause I'm not done yet! Those of us who have ripped and are reknitting can just continue the makeovers through March. And for inspiration, just check out Sandy's latest posts where she's making final decisions on all her (AWESOME!) unfinished projects.

Since I've already started my new project with the yarn I recycled from the sleeves, I thought it would be best if I went ahead and finished ripping out my Banana Republic sweater. Not only were the body pieces huge, but about 3/4 of the back came out in one long piece of yarn!

5 1/2" diameter ball of yarn
(full ball of Koigu added for scale)

Yes, there was a whole lot of ripping going on:

Poor Stacey has ripped out her sockapalooza sock. Oh noooo! Wendi ripped out her very first knitted project and Janell ripped out her almost-first project. Amy Lu ripped a poncho for her daughter. Dani ripped out her poncho (marvel at her new finished sweater, then scroll down for ripped poncho pics). And another poncho bit the dust over at Jenny's. Karen frogged a failed project and was rewarded with 10 skeins worth of Lana D'oro. Yum! Michelle said good-bye to her fluffy thing and is gonna start a scarf style scarf! And Nicole ripped Rosedale United to start Rosedale.

There was plenty of fixing too:

Emily is fixing her Mariah. Patti has started Gersta with her Klaralund yarn and fixed her just finished Marilyn! Bethany is reknitting a sweater for her son. Shelby shows us that fixing's not so bad after all (and should have a finished Gloria to show us later today). And Renee is making a blanket out of the yarn she recovered from the baby sweater she ripped last week.

Rae had an emergency fix precipitated by a boy and his scissors! Eklectika fixed her dangerously low-cut tank. Jessica fixed and finished her mon petit chou hipster panties. Wowza! Nat fixed a wonderful heirloom blanket that a few moths had gotten to. Grauwal fixed the sleeves on her Jean Moss cardigan. And Jenny fixed something she didn't even know was broken!

This is your official sockapalooza two week notice!

I'm on schedule with one sock done and the second begun. (Hey, that rhymed!)

And what you're all waiting for, more finished socks to covet:

Silke's cloverleaf socks
Tania's striped regia socks
Jackie's retro ribs
Karen B.'s elegant fair-isle socks (when they were still in progress)
Judy's gorgeous fair-isle socks
Angela's violet variegated
Jessica's beeea-utiful Birch Leaf socks
Lydia's lacy, autumnal colors
Jenny's beautiful blues
Timothy's first socks!
Deb's purple patterned socks
Amy Lu's rainbow socks
Fern's red socks
Dyann's Conwy socks
Jackie's red hots
Beate's incredible orange patterned socks

And in-progress socks you're gonna want to have:

Emily's pretty white confetti socks
Ginger's teal blue sock
Jackie's retro green socks
Mamacate's Broadripple
Keri's Dublin Bay sock

While I'm not part of the sock exchange, I'm sure enjoying viewing the finished socks. Com-
pliments to you Alison for organizing this and keeping everyone on track!!!

Woohoo! What lovely socks. This sure is fun!

ALison

You must know how fun this has been. Reading the updates, looking at all the socks. THanks for the incredible organizational efforts. I posted a photo of my socks a few days ago on irisheyesknitters. HOw do I get it to you to add to the list of WIPS?

KATHLEEN, who feels a bit as though she is knitting them for the state fair inspection!

Wow, there sure is a lot going on in knitalong land! I'm so glad that the fixing is going to continue into "Makeover March" because with the unanticipated Mariah fix, I haven't even started my original February fix.

Posted by: Emily at March 1, 2005 10:16 AM

Add me to the done socks! Woo! I was afraid I wouldn't make it in time.

Posted by: Jackie at March 1, 2005 10:19 AM

Check in late this afternoon for a progress shot on my blog. I have been working on sock #2 this morning while I read the on-line papers. Now it is time to go out and clean some more snow.

Alison,
Thank you for the suggestions you left for me about Pipsqueaks and Rowan Junior. I am hostessing the knit-in at my lys tonight, and I know we just got these two books in.

Thank you for being an incredible knit-along manager too! It must take a lot of your time, I just wanted you to know I really appreciate it!

Posted by: Amy Lu at March 1, 2005 12:10 PM

Wow! All those socks are neat!!! I can't wait to find out which is my pair. :))

I've just got an inch left on my sockapalooza socks... no problem geting them done for the deadline here!

I finally have my yarn for the two Weasley sweaters! Woo-hoo! I had to settle for Silky Tweed, as opposed to Silky Wool, but I think it'll work out alright.

I ripped for the fixathon on Feb. 2 and forgot to comment about it. Reclaimed yarn is here:

Thanks!

Thanks for hosting the fix it February kint-a-long. I almost have my sweater(Rogue)complete. I had to chop it in half and knit 2 inches in length at the waist. Now I have to graft it together. I hope I don't have to wait until next February to get the energy to fix another project.

Posted by: Nancy at March 1, 2005 4:41 PM

Reading about all the fixing I really want to rip my Rogue. I can not become friend with the Rowan Magpie tweed. It is to itchy and rustic for me. Still thinking about it.
My socks are done and washed, tomorrow I will steem block them and hopefully post a picture.
Thanks like every week for the updates :)

I guess all along I have been in on the February fix it without evern conciously knowing it!
COOL!
:)
Love your magknits t-shirt! You have done it again! I am proud to know you!

Add me to the finished list! I have a picture on today's entry http://spinningdoula.spatterdash.org

Thank you for hosting!

Hey alison, if it is not too late, can I join the February Fix-a-ton? I've been ripping too..:)

Posted by: Laura Y at March 1, 2005 9:23 PM

While I'm not a part of the -along, the February Fixathon inspired me to have the guts to rip out an early knitting project of mine, a hat knit for my mom that just wasn't working. I posted about it here:

http://www.burnt-orange.org/weblog/archive/post.php?id=138

Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for organizing these knitalongs-- it's been fun to watch everyone rip & fix, and I am loving the socks!

I finished my fix-it, with yarn to spare :)

Posted by: Bethany at March 1, 2005 10:26 PM

Hey, where dit February go? And why is all my fixing unfixed?? There must be something wrong with your february fix-a-thon, coz it can't be me, can it...

Guess I got distracted. Instead of fixing I made a hat, a pair of baby socks, a pair of socks for myself, a poncho, three neck warmers, a necklace and a big sweater for me, and of course, the horrible crochet hat! And I almost finished knitting the parts for the crazy leftover camels vest. When I didn't do this I started teaching a bobbin lace class. So I guess I got some things done after all.

I'll give my fixing list a second chance in march...

Thanks for the updates folks! Keep 'em coming. Until next week, sock and fix on....

Posted by: alison at March 2, 2005 9:09 AM

I have followed your Fixalong with a lot of interest. After reading all these success stories I have decided to do something about the too short sleeves in one of my sweaters. Unfortunately I could not get any of the yarn anywhere. So I decided to rip the collar that had felt a bit claustrophobic. I'm halfway done with the changes and it is going to look great! Thanks for giving me the courage!

Oh no!!!! Two weeks left!!!

I'd like to thank the Academy...whoops...wrong speech. I've been a bit of a slacker with my socks. Am currently forging ahead and should have at least one sock finished by week end. Would like to thank Alison for keeping some of us slowpokes in line and on track! That said wish me luck.

They're in the post and on their way to the USA! The little socks are going on an adventure! Pics of package (ooh the excitement) on my blog.
