tuesday is knitalong day

Last official Sockapalooza update! I've got about half of you listed as all done, so time to finish those socks and get them in the mail, folks.* I'm off to the post office to send off my sock pal's socks later this morning.

hint: this package doesn''t have far to travel!

Here's the latest bunch of finished socks that I've seen. Ooooh, the anticipation!

Mary's Conwy socks
Brynne's blue lace socks (Kristy has already received these!)
Holly's cable & rib socks
Christy's Firefighter socks
Neysa's beautiful cable socks
Erica's Pretty Comfy socks
Julia's aptly named Bob Marley's Grandma's Carribean Shell Socks
Dawn's flame Retro Ribs
Mary's Retro Ribs
Sandy's Friday Harbor socks
Kim's flock of chocolate socks (scroll down to March 8)
Polly's green New England socks (go Pats! hee, hee)
Wendi's blue Denmark socks
Keri's Dublin Bay socks
Cece's Party Ants socks
Rowena's Crusoe socks
Kristi's Spearfish socks (her own design!)
Parikha's elegant grey ribbed socks
MamaCate's Broadripple socks
Ginger's blue Sock-it-to-Me socks

If you've received your socks already, feel free to give a shout-out in the comments here and let your pal know how much you liked 'em!

* - If you're still working on your sock pal's socks, no problem. Just send them out as soon as you're done. If it's going to be a while, it would be nice if you sent me or your sock pal an email so they know that socks will be coming. The date's not as important as the socks, so keep on knitting!

I may be done with my socks, but not with my fixin'! In fact, I just acquired a new fixer-upper. My LYS was having a little clearance sale of old shop models. I immediately grabbed this sweater, which I remembered always liking. I was drawn to the colors when I first saw it and then once I felt how soft it was, I wanted the yarn.

But I never saw the yarn in the store (now I know that it's OnLine 76 Cup). So I had to have the sweater. The style is just silly though. Look at those puffed out sleeves! I've ripped everything back to the ribbing and am working on reknitting it. Stay tuned for its reincarnation as "Banff on Safari" coming soon!

And if you thought I was a frogging and fixing fanatic, just look at Carissa's to-do list. Incredible, Carissa! And really inspiring. If anyone else out there is still fixin', let me know what you're up to in the comments!

I got my socks yesterday from Leslie and they are wonderful!!! oh so soft and a beautiful red too. Thank you Leslie I love them.

Neysa was my pal and she did a wonderful job! I got a pair of blue cable socks...I'm wwearing them right now!

Posted by: Suzie at March 15, 2005 10:13 AM

Some dead links here...

Posted by: Helene at March 15, 2005 10:30 AM

re: dead links if they are typepad links, typepad has been extremely iffy this morning. Up and down, up and down like a roller coaster!
As for sockapalooza. I know my pal received her socks over the weekend per the USPS tracking number but no word from her or mention on her blog yet (panic!) I'm just hoping they FIT!

Posted by: Carla at March 15, 2005 10:33 AM

Thanks, Helene. They should be all fixed now. We've had an internet outage here this morning (that's why I'm posting later than usual) and it was hard for me to check everything.

Posted by: alison at March 15, 2005 10:40 AM

Whoa, the fix-up page by Carissa is just...whoa. As for me on the other end of the scale, when I get back in town after my spring break, I'll still be reknitting my Gigi for the Feb. fix-along!

Stop by this blog entry:

... and check out the wonderful socks WE received!

I used some of the dark red OnLine 76 to make a scarf for one of my grandparents a few years ago... a very fun yarn to work with. Love those slubby bits of color. : ) Good luck with rescuing the sweater!

Posted by: Sandy J at March 15, 2005 11:23 AM

Great find! Those sleaves are kinda goofy. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Posted by: Vicki at March 15, 2005 11:24 AM

Hey babe. I never officially joined up on the fix-along, but you definitely inspired me to rip a dog and recreate Sheepy Sweater -- making her debut today. Thanks for the kick in the pants.

Posted by: claudia at March 15, 2005 11:34 AM

I finished my socks, they had a nice bath and are drying, to be mailed tomorrow. Yay!
Fixin's- I need to post on my blog about this! I have ripped out lots of stuff and reclaimed the yummy, beautiful yarn! I've been stalling on turning the 80's sweater began by my mother into a felted bag... but having seen some adorable recycled patchwork sweater bags in the shop lately, I am inspired once more! Just the ripping part of this knitalong has been quite freeing- thanks for your great ideas
Looking forward to Sockapalooza 2...?

Got my socks from Ruth last week, they are lovely in grey, blue and purple stripes, just my colours.. Thanks a lot, Ruth. Send my socks off today.. hope they will be wellcomed as much as those.

I've been doing a little fixing today. All the details are over on my blog, if you want to have a look. Not in Carissa's league I'm afraid!

Posted by: Mary at March 15, 2005 1:06 PM

I finished my socks up yesterday, and they are now in the mail. No picture on my blog, yet, though.

Posted by: Andrea at March 15, 2005 1:48 PM

Still fixin'-along here too. The petite banff is moving along slowly as some gift knitting has pushed to the forefront. I'll also be ripping a Manos scarf and half of a Boat Neck Shell to hopefully make Nothin' but a Tshirt (if I have enough yardage).

Posted by: carie at March 15, 2005 2:37 PM

Whee! Finished my socks at exactly 12:03 this morning, and am off to the post office now to send them on their merry way :-). This is so exciting!

Posted by: Kathy at March 15, 2005 2:49 PM

Like that yarn-- I'm making a sweater with the black/grey online 76 cup. They have it at Elann, in case you really really like it.

Posted by: cinnamontree at March 15, 2005 3:10 PM

Hey Alison,

I sent a card to my pal, Kristel, letting her know that the socks were delayed. She recieved it today!

April

Posted by: April at March 15, 2005 3:44 PM

Bookish girl Wendy saw that sweater in the store the other day and commented on it's resemblance to Banff. Funny that's what you are fixing it up to be!

Posted by: Johanna at March 15, 2005 8:19 PM

Hi Alison! I got my socks today and WOW are they pretty!! So soft and a perfect fit, thank you Donna S.!!! And thank you for being the hostest with the mostest Alison!! Where do I sign up for Sockapalooza Two???? :)

Posted by: Debi at March 15, 2005 8:29 PM

I'm still fixin'! More accurately, I am frogging the loden green monstrosity. I thought I was going to turn it into the Grace sweater from Knitty, but now I'm not so sure. When I figure it out, you guys will be the first to know :-).

Posted by: Dani at March 15, 2005 11:28 PM

Yay, it's so exciting to hear that people are starting to get their socks! So glad that everyone is having such fun. :)

Yes, Johanna, that's exactly what I thought. The sweater seemed like it could be a Banff with a little help, so why try to reknit it into something totally different?

Posted by: alison at March 15, 2005 11:29 PM

Alison - thanks so much for being a wonderful hostess. I had a great time making (and polling) my pal's socks and seeing all the amazing finished socks here. Although it's work, I'd love it if you would continue to compile finished sock links here on Tuesday. They're great to see and it's good motivation for those who are a little behind.

Posted by: Julia at March 16, 2005 8:39 AM

I got a GORGEOUS pair of socks last week from Bente Deutz in Germany -- she used Opal Magic and then overdyed them with Koolaid. These are ART -- I may frame them instead of wearing them. Thanks so much, Bente! And thanks, Alison, for hosting Sockapalooza. And I finished my Sockapalooza socks and mailed them to my pal on Monday, March 14.

Posted by: Karin at March 16, 2005 10:45 AM

I'm done! the star sweater is fixed and on the Boy Wonder. Check me off--and I feel braver than ever to boss my knitting around!

Posted by: suzanne at March 16, 2005 12:43 PM

Alison

Do you know how much joy you have brought us all with sockapalooza? I pictured all the little socks in the airplane mail flying around the last few days.

I can't be more thrilled with Gracie from graciknits.blogspot.com's unbelievable pretty broadripple lace socks for me!!!!!

Happy St. Patricks Day from Kathleen at irisheyesknitters.blogspot.com . May you be in heaven a half an hour before the devil knows your dead. (my grandma's favorite irish blessing)

Posted by: kathy b. at March 16, 2005 4:40 PM

My socks are finished, in the mail, and should arrive at their final destination tomorrow (March 17th). Many thanks to you, Alison, for organizing such a fun, fun sock exchange -- fun making, fun watching, and fun receiving!

Posted by: nona at March 17, 2005 12:24 AM

Hey Alison! Thanks for the mention!! I've been having WAY too much fun with the fixer-uppers! It's been so nice to get some projects completely "done" even if that means RIPping the whole thing *lol*
Thanks again for leading the way!

Posted by: Carissa at March 17, 2005 12:58 AM

My rainbow Kool-Aid socks arrived and are making their online debut, since my pal doesn't have a blog. So here they are!

http://knit.blogspot.com/2005/03/sockapalooza-part-ii.html

Thanks again for organizing this swap. I'm looking forward to another sock swap, even if I end up having to organize one myself!

Posted by: Brynne at March 17, 2005 3:00 PM

I sent my socks out on Tuesday, and I received my socks yesterday. Thanks, Karen, for the amazing stripey socks. They are fabulous!

And thank you, Alison, for such a fun exchange. I can't wait for the next Sockapalooza tour! You rock!

Posted by: Jen L at March 17, 2005 10:17 PM

I got my Sockapalooza socks yesterday from Kristi, and they're so lovely! I could just stare at the gorgeous lace all day long!

Alison, I noticed I'm not yet on list of finished sockpaloozers... I finished them up on Feb. 25 and they were shipped on the Ides. Should be in my pal's hands any day now. Thanks for all the work you've done with this!

Posted by: barbara at March 18, 2005 1:13 PM

I got my socks from "Sock Wench" but I have no idea who she is! I've even checked the list of participants to try and work it out! Details in my blog!

Posted by: Timothy at March 18, 2005 2:30 PM

Yippee, I got my socks today from Maeve! They are great and on my feet as I type! This has been a blast! When does #2 start?-Carla H.

Posted by: Carla Hibbard at March 18, 2005 4:57 PM

And happily, my socks also arrived from Sanne in Denmark and they are just wonderful! Come check them out at my blog; we'll be doing a foot modeling session tomorrow. :-)

Posted by: erika at March 19, 2005 1:18 AM

Illana (Arizona) sent me BEAUTIFUL broadripple socks. You can see them on my blog. She also sent stitch markers that match the socks (and one with a teddy bear). The funny part is...Illana is my daughter's friend and got my name by luck of the draw. They kept the secret the WHOLE TIME, including after I had read Illana's blog and commented on how much I loved the socks she was making (pix posted on her blog). Those were for ME!! YEAH, Illana. And YEAH! Alison for organizing sockapalooza. Hope we get to do it again!!

Posted by: Jody at March 19, 2005 11:58 AM

Alison, please add me to the list of completed sockapaloozers. I mailed the socks on Thursday and am checking my pal's blog (a lot) to see when she receives them. Thanks, again for all your hard work in organizing this fun KA!

Posted by: Kristy at March 19, 2005 10:34 PM

Gill is a super sweetie!! I totally LOVE my socks and I'm off to post about them! :)

Posted by: tania at March 21, 2005 12:27 AM

I feel so lucky to be the recipient of Julia's Bob Marley's Grandma's socks! They're beautiful and fit perfectly. Thank you Julia. and thank you Alison for being such a wonderful host, this was really really fun.
