knitting with meatballs
Another week and another trip to IKEA, but this time not just for furniture shopping. I had to make that looooong drive down to pick up one little thing that they didn't have in stock last week, so some New Haven Stitch n' Bitchers helped make it worth my while by coming to meet me for a little knitting in the cafeteria.

seriously, we're knitting at IKEA!
Lauren arranged everything and brought her man and his wonderful newly finished sweater. Jessica brought her beautiful Koigu Clapotis-in-progress and some lovely blue stitch markers for me (thanks!!). Sami brought her blue(!) yarn for tempting and her Wiseman Finishing Techniques book and managed to do the tubular cast on with all of us blabbing. Karen brought some fabulous recycled sari silk yarn for the water bottle sling from Knit Wit and some books for Bookcrossing's IKEA release challenge. And Eklectika brought the wrong half of her sock knitting, which would be an empty needle holder and an extra ball of yarn. We stitched (well, everyone except for Eklectika), we bitched (okay, mostly Eklectika), ate meatballs and cinnamon buns (me, me) while the boys watched SpongeBob, which was mercifully playing in a loop in the kids area of the cafeteria.
Thanks gals, for making the trip so much fun! (Thanks from the little guys too, who were in a good mood all the way home!) See ya next time for knitting in one of the display living rooms.

It was so nice to meet you yesterday! I still can't get over how transfixed your boys were for so long with SpongeBob! :) Glad you had a good drive home too. Do let us know the next time you need an IKEA fix. :)
[By the way, I forgot to tell you I made the stitch markers for size 8 needles. Enjoy!]
What a great idea to combine doing an errand w/meeting friends to knit! SpongeBob and cinnamon buns for the boys made this a "thumbs up" adventure for them too!
Daniel keeps saying "The little ones were so cuuuuute." Definitely living rooms next time. When I was leaving, I saw 2 little girls trying out one of the display beds.
I would have loved going to Ikea and seeing a bunch of ladies knitting at the table.I would have had a heart attack.lucky you!
I met a knitting friend at Ikea yesterday too! Just wait until the boys can go in the ballroom. One hour of sweet freedom. Ahhh...
What, didn't you guys take over one of those cute little living-room setups in the furniture galleries for your SnB? That would have *really* showed shoppers what the furniture looks like in action.
Coincidentally, I was knitting in the Palo Alto IKEA yesterday, but only in the insanely long checkout line.
You guys would have lent an IKEA living room a nice touch of realism!
looks like it was a fun outing
If I only I had known. On my way to NJ I stopped off at my brother's place in New Haven. Thought about going to Ikea but instead we took the dog for a walk and discovered a lovely yarn shop in the Westville section (near the intersection of Fountain and Whalley). I will be back.
Kat in Boston (but NY this week)
It sounds like you all had a terrific day. Thank you for the swap hints--it was a big success!
Alison, it was really a lot of fun to get to meet you and the little ones on Friday (I still can't believe I took the wrong half of the project with me, lol).
And Emily - we were TOTALLY thinking of taking over one of the living room displays, lol...next time!
Arggg...if only I lived across the pond. I swear if I ever get to go over seas again I'll be sure to S&B...as it happens I do have a SIL that lives in MA that told us we could stay with her, so one of these days my little tyke just might get to meet your little tykes.
