A sleeve for my white bread sweater.
I'm so glad that I threw caution to the wind and went for stripey sleeves! I should have plenty of yarn to make sleeve number two. I am having a hard time with the sleeves though, because of how I lengthened the top. Keeping the same shape over a longer armhole, while making sure that the stripes still match up has been a real battle. This is my fourth attempt and the first that looks like it may have a real chance of fitting in the armhole. I'll sew it in this week to see if it's a keeper.

Those colors are so great! I would have zero patience for a fourth attempt... so, go you! Can't wait to see more on this one! Happy Monday :)
All you women who match stripes with set-in sleves are tougher than I am! Anna did it, too: http://autoscopia.com/amelia/archives/2005/03/is_she_pretty.html
Now I'm wondeering if it's not possible to calculate which rows in the cap will line up with which rows in the armscye and then just knit the sleeve cap down. I mean, there must be an easier way than knitting the same sleeve over and over, right? :-)
It's looking excellent! :-)
You have the patience of a saint, but I couldn't live with mismatched stripes, either.
Are you cutting or carrying your yarns? Care to show us your edges?
I really like the progress of your sweater. That sweaters's on my wish list, but I'm too lazy to do the math to upsize it.
Love the stripes! Love the colors! What a fun knit!
Oh, pretty sleeve! You're right, keeping that sleeve sequence on par with the armhole is HARD since the sleeve cap length is usually about 1.5" shorter than the armhole length. Makes you want to make nothing but raglans knit all together.
A number of years ago I knit a fair isle sweater with set in sleeves from an English pattern. The bind off for the beginning of the sleeve cap and the beginning of the armhole occured on the same row of the colorwork pattern. The fair isle pattern of the sleeve matched perfectly to the pattern on the body of the sweater.
Right Judy, that's exactly how this is one done. There are some rows before and then the cap starts at the same part of the stripe sequence as the body at the beginning of the armholes.
Colleen, I'll post a pic of the inside next time. I am definitely cutting the ends, since there's about 35 rows between main color repeats.
so beautiful! can't wait to see it together :)
Good luck, Alison, I'm sure you'll make it work.
Everytime you mention the bread sweater i get so hungry!
