hold the phone

Apparently, I say this a lot. The boys told me this. Now, they didn't just say, "hey ma, you say that a lot." No, but when getting ready to go to the playground, they say, "Hold the phone, we gotta get our shoes." And while playing with their Thomas trains, they say, "Stop, hold the phone, I gotta fix my train!"

They're going through a little phone phase in general it seems, always telling me that the phone is ringing. I can see from the caller id that it's some telemarketer and so I'm not answering and the boys are saying, "moooooommmmmyyyyyyyy, the phone is ringing, mooooooommmmmmmyyyyyy...."

And now they have started using their Happy Meal video games, which we keep in the car, as cell phones. They hop into their car seats and immediately flip them open and say stuff like, "No, I am late. I can't do that. I have a busy day." And then the "phone call" always ends for some unknown reason with them saying, "So you build me the pink house. Okay."

Anyway, my knitting is a bit on hold right now as I finish up a BIG design project that I can't share with you all. It's very exciting, but it's a lot of work. Plus, the germans are coming! First they select a German pope and now the in-laws are coming to visit. I'll still be knitting and posting, but only in the breaks between designing and Oma & Opa funtime.

So you build me the pink house. Okay?

Give us a hint - is the project for adults or kids?

It's the pink-house thing that's really got me.

Okay. But wouldn't you rather have a blue one?

Aww, your boys are so cute.

So cute! Do they pretend to talk to each other or some mystery person?

Love that picture of your boy pretending to be "very busy". ;)

Oma and Opa, wow! We say that here in the Netherlands, but I didn't know it was German as well.

Gotta run now, busy busy busy! Hehehe

How funny. Nice to know they're on top of the phone though. Just in case you can't hear it ringing yourself. I'd like a pink house :)

what is it with kids and phones??:O) mine cant stand not answering either, it's like the phone have some magic spell cast on kids.... Or are the adults just not that curios anymore???
A pink house, thats cute, I would like a bubblegum pink one, and get hungry everytime I come home.... :O))))

Kids are so funny. Katie, who is almost 4, always ends her calls with IGOTTAGOBYE. Really fast and loud. And anything can be a pfone in this house too. The worst is she now ANSWERS the phone. I don't always want the phone answered!

your boys are too cute! And building houses is our specialty! We shall work on the pink part. Have fun with you guests!

I love how kids pick up on little things like that. My daughter has started saying, "well, whattaya gonna do?" complete with resigned shoulder shrug.

Wow - you have a book signed to Angela Davis?!!! And it came to you somewhat randomly. Very cool.

So do you think the boys *think* they're saying something else when they say "So you build me the pink house"?

It's funny hearing what your boys are up to. They are gonna have a wry sense of humor just like their mom!

wait a sec...hold the phone! I mean to say they already seem to have a wry sense of humor....

:)

I so love when kids use adult phrases (and not *those* adult phrases). I think I know what your secret project is, as Libby is doing something big as well...can't wait to see what you've done!

I thought of you this weekend too, when I was watching GSN they had a little thing on GenCon (that's the show that you went to a couple weeks ago right?)- I know you watch GSN, so hopefully you saw it!

your boys are so funny. it's always interesting to see what kids are going to pick up on. when my nephew was 2-ish, 3-ish, his favorite saying was, "what, were you raised in a barn?" which was something he overheard. he didn't say it himself, he would leave doors open and then look at you expectantly. you were then expected to say, "what, were you raised in a barn?", and then he'd giggle, slap his forehead (like, 'oh yeah, i forgot') and then close the open door.

incidentally, i've been trying to reply to an email you sent me. did you get it?

Aren't kids hilarious at this age?
Jesse is really into chatting on "phones" too. He calls all his friends and you hear these little giggles as if they are telling him funny things.

I was listening to Jesse play this morning and realised how much I have a smile on face these days....and all due to him.
