seam week

Inspired by Lisa's great project wrap-up, I've been seeming up sweaters in waiting in an attempt to clean out my knitting basket. I finished the model NBaT last week and now two children's sweaters for fellow Knitmsith, MaryLinda.

Cascade Quattro

MaryLinda doesn't like seaming. But I love seaming up MaryLinda's sweaters. Always a lovely yarn and great basic patterns full of my favorite seams: raglan seams, mattress stitch seams, rolled edge seams.

And here's another one almost done.

Tahki Laña wool

Now giant white bread sits all alone in the knitting basket with dozens of ends everywhere, still missing one sleeve and a collar. But, I fear I might be all seamed out. Summer cottons are beckoning.....

Alison

You LOVE seaming up sweaters? What chromosome am I missing? Seam WEEK? You are my hero.

Please consider entering Irisheyesknitters.blogspot.com's Worldwide KIP photo contest. June 11th is a few days away. I may have to give a special prize for seaming in public....and its for a great cause.

Oh my, can you come to Montreal on vacation, I have a few too many finished knits that only need to be seamed to be competed. LOL! ;) Oh how I wish I could enjoy seaming!

You like finishing -- can that be possible? I'm forcing myself to seam something up this afternoon for a friend who just had her baby 3 weeks early. Also, I almost fell out of my chair when I saw these finished items on your blog today -- so glad that you were just the finisher or I'd be convinced that you knit in your sleep! p

It always amazed me when I would hear you saying how much you enjoy seaming. Now you are seaming for others - wow! Wipes the tears from my eyes. I wish you could bottle that and sell me some.

Hmmm...What's a rolled-edge seam? Is it basically a process where you tack down the rolled edge so it looks like an icord edging? It sure looks great in that pictures!!!

Get that knitting basket clean! I'm in the same boat...I was hoping to finish up many projects this weekend...but shoe shopping called and I lost 8 hours! I guess it's time to get started again!

I have no idea how to seam up a sweater yet... But will hopefully do as nice of a job as you do! I LOVE the baby denim project below!

I wish I had a friend like you who lived nearby, had 2 cute cute children and loved seaming. What a blessing!

(giggles, noting that the stitch holder in the first picture looks an awful lot like a curler)

HRMPFFFFFF!

I missed the sign up for the summer sock tour :(

Wel, I won the last round (first finisher, first receiver, great socks), so I guess I'll settle for the past sucess, and enjoy my winter socks this summer too :)

Just a tip for those who made it in time, check out these great summer sock patterns:

I like seaming, too. At least, when I start. By the end of a sweater, I've had enough. I don't think I'd like to seam someone else's work.

Hmm...tacking down rolled edges. Good idea.

Hey Allison,

What sweater pattern is the reddish one on today's post? It's awesome!

Posted by: LeAnne at June 6, 2005 1:23 PM

LeAnne, I think the pattern she always uses is Yankee Knitter #21 - Roll Raglan sweater. Like most of her patterns it's for child and adult sizes. Her patterns are great!

Rowena, when I say rolled edge seam, I just mean mattress stitch on a rolled edge. The first inch or so is seamed together on the wrong side, so that the rolled edge looks seamless. Normal mattress stitch done on the right side would either flatten out the roll at that point or leave a visible seam where the edge rolls up.
