scarf talk

House scarves from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban DVD.

Gryffindors Hermione and Ron

Draco and his Slytherin goons

Look, there goes a Ravenclaw! (That's Harry under his invisibility cape stealing a lollipop from Neville.)

I think I like Hufflepuff best of all. Love that buttery yellow!

My scarf is coming right along. And here are the three Gryffindors wearing their scarves in a still from the new movie coming up in November. What a relief that they're not changing the scarves again!

Thanks for the link to the photos ... I've been to mugglenet, but hadn't found the movie stills. My 11 year old will faint from excitement when he sees them.

You've really got me wanting to make a scarf now.

Not many people in blogland knitting scarves right now! I like the stripes on these scarves, they look cute.

The Hufflepuff is nice, I like saying it the most too. Hufflepuff, hehe :)

Your scarf is looking good! I made a Ravenclaw from the "old" scarf pattern. I didn't think I'd ever get to the end -- 7 feet of st st, knit in a tube -- I don't think I'm ready to make a new one yet.

Ya know, I think I like the Slytherin one the best. But it makes me feel like a traitor! ;) Gosh, it's been a while since I've seen this movie, maybe we'll watch it this weekend.

PS. is your scarf knit in the round or double knit?

Posted by: Liz at May 27, 2005 11:29 AM

Liz, I used the pattern at atypically knit as a starting point. Like the scarvf from the first two movies, this one is also knit in the round.

Love the scarf! Which colors are you using from Jamieson's Shetland DK?

Posted by: Jennifer at May 27, 2005 11:44 AM

Since I have made both an "old style" Gryffindor and am in the midst of a Slytherin, I was not about to start the new Gryffindor scarf until I knew it was going to be used again in the new movie. Thanks for finding out!

Having pondered the atypically knit pattern, I think the knitwear designer for Harry Potter said "No more scarves until the next next movie! Something other tham knit in the round! Let me have Hermoine's sweaters and Weasly knits of I'm boycotting!" Not that they aren't lovely, but can you imagine if someone had to handknit an entire set full of scarves for the next movie which involves many more characters wearing scarves (because of the school competition) on screen at the same time?

tham = than
knits of = knits or

Silly me.

All I could think when I saw that still from the current movie was, "yup, they haven't changed the scarves, and no one has gotten hair cuts since the beginning of last year either!"

heh. :) I'm thinking I might start mine soon too, you've got me thinking on it!

I started my scarf last year, and I need to pull it out so that it will be finished for the new movie in the fall! I'm making the same one as you:) I love all things Harry and Ron!

Posted by: Stacey at May 27, 2005 2:09 PM

wow now i really want to make one. i've been putting it off but it looks like a nice, tv knit. i dig ravenclaw's colors. yours looks fab!

Posted by: thuy at May 27, 2005 2:36 PM

I made a Hufflepuff scarf (SS/CoS style) for my husband last year in time for the Azkaban movie. I think it is time to make a Ravenclaw for myself.

Posted by: Seanna Lea at May 27, 2005 2:51 PM

Well, see, the reason they are all wearing scarves from the last movie is because the new movie is filmed during a New England spring, and who would have thought we'd still be discussing scarves?

I love your progress... Now, I think I am going to make this for my cousin for his birthday in August, but I looked at the pattern and am confused by it. I will have to ask you when I drop in sometime... How fun!

Oh yeah. The scarf. Sigh. Mine became a Gryffindor stocking cap. It's very cute, needs a pom-pom. I fear I've failed you all.

Yours looks awesome, you've motivated me to give it a shot! Gryffindor, here we come.

Posted by: keri at May 28, 2005 1:27 PM

I am making the HP scarf but my daughter would like it in the club colors of her soccer club - so royal blue and white here I come. This is my first attempt at circulars/knitting in the round. It is a lovely, hypnotising experience.

Alison, hope this comment isn't so late you never see it. I've been putting off making a Hogwarts scarf for my daughter, but this is clearly the year. She'll be almost 9 at Christmas, she's wanted to be Hermione for at least 2 years, and I can't wait to see her open the package. Most of my knitting takes place very late at night, so this is just about the right level for the last bit of time I manage to stay awake. Thanks for giving me the idea early enough in the year!
