orange you glad
I found myself at Knitsmiths last week with the wrong needles and unable to work on the denim baby jacket, so I was forced - forced I tell you! - to start Katy with my luscious orange-y all seasons cotton.

S was helping out with the photography again
Oh those cables. Swoon.
Okay so riddle me this: what's up with me and orange? There's the clapotis, then this all seasons cotton that I couldn't wait to get my hands on, and even some Jaeger Trinity that I carried around with me for an hour at the Wild & Wooly clearance sale but eventually put back. I'm beginning to suspect that Claudia slipped me something the last time I saw her!
Well, actually, I blame Harry Potter. It all became clear when I went to the yarn store this week to pick up the extra maroon yarn I need to finish the Prisoner of Azkaban scarf. I came home with that yarn and these.

the Harry Potter effect
That's one more skein of Malabrigo for the clapotis (yes, I will need four skeins), one more ball of asc for katy (the cables are eating up yarn at an alarming rate), and five balls of Calmer in maroon for the nothing but a t-shirt that I'm making with my intermediate knitting class (I liked the maroon trim on the model tee so much I wanted to use it for my next NBaT). The bag of yarn was like an accidental cross-section of all the projects I'm working on now and what do you know, it looked like another Harry Potter scarf. (Mmmm..... a Harry Potter scarf in Malabrigo.... drool... ooops, sorry, drifted off there a bit). It would appear that I officially have Harry Potter on the brain. And the needles.

You'll probably want either little snap things for a bra or tank top strap for Katy, or to build a bra into it, otherwise, there's a fantastic 80's flash dance thing going on with the neck that, unless you're into it, can get a little annoying :)
But yay! I had so much fun making that sweater in that yarn :)
Hey Amber, I didn't know that you made Katy! I remember the cables, but never put it together. Doh! And no worries, I'm not going to leave that v-neck so gape-y. I'll be fudging the numbers so everything fits better.
Oh, Cara, now there's an idea!
The next book will be out in a few weeks, so it's no wonder you have HP on the brain. :-)
Katy is so pretty! I would have opted for the pink in the pattern pic, but the orange is really pretty too. All this orange is making me anxious for fall!
Oooh, I'm into orange lately, too! I'm using some ASC in a mottled orange and white for a tank. What color name/# is that ASC? Is it the copper? I know it's cheap on Ebay, and if it looks like that in real life I really need some!
Hm, ASC for Cotton Angora? I happen to have that book and a newfound "thing" for ASC... Oh wait, I'm broke and what's that you say about my stash? Well at least I can swatch with some leftover ASC, right? ;)
The cables look great and the color is great! I love the neck on the pattern and can't wait to see your finished version.
I love the cable-y Katy, can't wait to see your FO.
We all know that you're secretly considering becoming "the orange blog"... ;)
Ah, Harry Potter . . . five more weeks until book 6 comes out!
we are going to the harry potter birthday party/book coming out party at borders the night of the 16th. it's a friday night, so the boys will be allowed to stay up late. i get dibs on the book first, though (hey, i'm paying for it, and who do you think introduced the boys to it in the first place?!). your yarns look gorgeous! i gotta find me that nbat pattern, and some calmer, and make me one. i just gotta. right after i finish 3 sweaters for me, one for my daughter, and one for my son, and fiance. sigh. (slinks off to the knitting corner)
Somehow I had missed the fact that the yarn store is in Brookline. I used to live there but not during a knitting spell. Now I am trying to find a reason to go back and visit... I love the look of Katy, that's a lot of cabling but the end result is gorgeous.
Didn't they steal the new Harry-Potter-book..?
Katy is beautiful! Is the pattern in the DB Cotton Angora-book? Or where did you find it?
well, orange is in. tangerine, especially. you're just being very hip.
Don't take this the wrong way, but your cables are so plump and gorgeous. Gorgeous!
heh heh heh.....
That *is* an incredibly lovely color.
A~I think I gotta make a NBaT. Any thoughts on the size choices? I'm a 36 in the bra; guess I'm just trying to get out of buying the sixth ball (even though I've an LYS with a 25% off sale right now). Mine would maybe be a little shorter than the pattern . . . And I want to put something intarsia in the mix . . . Let me know if you have any thoughts to enlighten me.
Oh, and I love the Katy!
Orange is a complementary color to blue on the color wheel (across from it, like yellow:purple and red:green) - maybe that's why you like it? You're subconsciously complementing the blue :)
