jumbo shrimp

One wee denim sleeve.

Well not wee enough perhaps. The sleeve cap has ended up wider than the armhole opening.

love that before after washing comparison, huh?

I'm kinda winging this one since the original pattern isn't written for the denim and therefore doesn't take into account the fact that it shrinks. Because the denim shrinks mostly lengthwise, I've been knitting everything a centimeter or two longer than the pattern calls for to insure that the finished sweater isn't way too small. But things are a little trickier around the armhole, where the vertical armhole has shrunk, but the horizontal sleeve cap that was written to fit it won't shrink as much. Fingers crossed that this puppy shrinks just enough so I can fit it into that armhole!

What would happen if you seemed then washed? Would it pucker?

I feel your pain. I recently had an ill-fitting sleeve problem. Hopefully washing it will be the answer.

Ah, Allison, I'm not so stressed about it. It's a baby sweater, so it wouldn't take too long to reknit a sleeve. I've got to wash this sleeve though, so I'll know for sure. Until then, no more knitting on this!

Such dedication! Seeing the absolutely adorable sweater makes all your efforts worthwhile! Did you know ahead of time that the Denim yarn shrinks
(one of my very first projects from Interweaves recommended Star yarn which shrunk lengthwise but not widthwise also). GOOD LUCK!

hey - thought i already posted... anyhow... just said that i'll cross my fingers for you and hope that it works out

If it comes out still too big, try to ease in most of it through the top of the sleeve, on both sides of the shoulder point. I'm not sure if that only really works in sewing, but that's what I'd try.

Hrm...that is for a boy's sweater, right? Otherwise you could just add in some gathers and call it a puffed sleeve. Hoping it fits, or wishing you quick and easy re-knitting.

You're far braver than I. But like you said, it doesn't take too long to knit a baby sleeve :)

I have done a fab Rowan and Annabel Fox Denim Knit using Alice Starmore pattern and sadly 10 ys ago all the patterns were a lot baggier, but hey it still is very wearable as a smock
What would happen if you sewed it all up using preshrunk yarn and then washed it?
I want to knit a short sleeved version but pattern conversion is a -----, thank goodness for mathematically gifted husbands.

I want to dye some yarn for my sockapal-2-za pal with kool-aid, but I cannot seem to find out how. I've seen other blogs talk about it but no luck in my two hour looking. Why is it that when you need something you can't seem to find it??? HELP!! I just want these socks to be really special for her. Any help would be great.

Hey Leslie the link I found was thru one of the free patterns at knitty...http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall02/FEATdyedwool.html. Alison might have better directions.

Thanks alison for posting the link to your NBaT alternatives...going to investigate. Although everytime I see something that you knitted up in the Rowan denim the envy-laden eyes get wider. Could that be a possibility? I keep seeing my NBaT in denim tones. But what would the adaptations be?

Good luck with the shrinking!

What ever happened to sew blue?? We miss her. I'm sewing, wanna join me??
