feather and fans

Back in NYC for a "make-up" visit for my son S, who missed the last one two weeks ago with a fever. I started a new project to bring with me in case I find some time to knit (fat chance with two 4 year-olds on the train!). I thought it only fitting that I work on the beautiful feather and fan shrug that I found at Downtown Yarns on the last trip.

Koigu and JaggerSpun

And speaking of fans, after putting the boys to bed last night, I went over to the local Barnes & Noble and stood in line with the other obsessed fans and quidditch seekers to buy the latest Harry Potter book at the midnight release. They handed out free posters and Harry Potter glasses.

don't I look like Trelawney in those glasses?

Those of use who had not reserved copies of the book received orange wristbands and waited well past midnight until all of the folks with reserved copies bought their books. At 1:10 our line started moving!

let my orange people go

At 1:20, I had my book.

hooray!

i've been reading your blog daily for a long time. love it. i love your scarf. was going to ask where you got the pattern but then links to find that it is from a shop in NY. i'm taking my first trip to NY the first week in august. traveling with a knitting friend. we will have to put downtown yarns on our list!!!!!

I love Feather and Fan, it moves so quickly and you don't have to think about it, while it makes a beautiful fabric. I waited last night for the new Potter as well. I've already started in on it, and I'm already drawn in completely! Have fun reading.

I, too, went to Border's last night after putting the kiddies to bed, but just to peruse the new books. When I saw the hugh crowd waiting for for the Midnight release of HP, I immediately thought of you and knew that you would be anxiously awaiting the new book. While I'm not a HP fan,
I was impressed w/the HP window display that you created and the VERY LONG scarf. Enjoy reading!

Love your feather and fan shrug to be. The blend of light and dark yarns is yummy! I was inspired by your new HP scarf to knit one for my granddaughter. She still wears the "old" one I made for her--year round! She works in a theater during summers home from U of MN, and collects tickets in her scarf and HP glasses. She says it's her trademark, and that she definitely needs the new one.

I love that scarf...have a great day and glad you got your hpotter fix :)

I've been reading for a while now... You're going to love HP6... just picked up my copy at midnight myself. Keep an eye out for a knitting reference! How fun!

I saw the same thing at the Borders in LA. 1am and so many people on the corner of Sunset and Vine...buying books! hee hee hee...not the usual Sunset and Vine 1am crowd. ; )

Yay, Harry! I just finished mine and posted a spoiler-free review. (Really, I promise I didn't give anything away.) Good one! I'm already anxious for book 7 . . .

You're lucky-we had a yellow wristband, and when we left at 1:15, they still hadn't finished with the yellows, they were up to 450 I think. Poor oranges. We would have been them last year, but we left and went to Walmart and got one in ten minutes.

Knowing you love to knit socks, I had to share this with you. I've been a long time fan of your blog and now have the opportunity ( I hope ) to give back.

Are these not adorable!!! So strange, they are cute.

Hooray for Harry! I can wait to start the new book. is that a green wrist band is the bag too with the book?

Hope you enjoy the book as much as I did! I could hardly put it down all day. Finished it right at 10:15 or so.

Posted by: Heather at July 16, 2005 10:25 PM

Yay! Another midnight Harry fan! I'm reading only chapter by chapter to savour it.

I just closed the book for the first time today and I am finished! But now I must find someone else as obsessed as me to talk to about it. I didn't knit a stich today and when my Mother in Law offered to make dinner I took her up on it so fast I don't think she knew what hit her. Does anyone know when book 7 is coming?

I finished reading yesterday, can't wait for the next book!! Since this book is a bit thinner than #5, I managed to finish in about 7 hours (of no knitting!).
Anyway, I got carton hats, wand, and carton glasses ;)

Oh, heeheeeehee, you look great in those glasses. and "let my orange people go"!!! Too funny. I'm impressed that 10 minutes after the line started moving, you had your book. They must have been a well-oiled machine.

I've started the book! After seeing four people reading it on the subway around town yesterday, I couldn't resist anymore. But after reading two chapters, I realize that I'm going to have to go back and read Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix again before continuing. I'm pretty fuzzy on who some of these characters are or where I remember the names from. Doh!

Yes, we got green wristbands (like the LiveSTRONG wristbands) that have the owl and the date of the book release on it. I have to admit, I was pretty excited to see them in the bag! Ever since my boys got little green wristbands with the name of their local kids' haircut place on them, I've been wanting one!

Woo Hoo! (I have just gotten to the part where Dumbledore says he loves Muggle magazines for the most delightful reason ever!)

Hope you're enjoying your book as much as we are.

You look adorable in your glasses! The bad part is that I had a reserved copy, but I didn't bother to go get it. I'll get the book eventually, but I haven't even read 5 yet. I love the books and all, I'm just slow with these sort of things. Hence my just now halfway done clap.

Posted by: Vicki at July 17, 2005 12:24 PM

The scarf is beautiful! I am glad you got your hands on a book! I still need to read the last one!

Posted by: Dani at July 17, 2005 12:31 PM

I'm about halfway through the book and loving it. I thought I would need to go back and re-read the previous books, but Rowling actually does a good job of reminding us of the significant earlier events.

Fun to see the moment by moment account of your book quest - nice glasses!

Posted by: Laura at July 17, 2005 8:50 PM

WOW! Congrats on your book! now get some sleep =)

i'm waiting to read them until my son gets a little older and we'll read them together.
right now he's in the middle of 'the spiderwick series'
