1. A McDonald's Playspace in an airport is a good thing.
2. The extra security check at Frankfurt airport for those travelling to America is so disorganized, I can't believe that it's run by Germans.
3. Apparently rows 34 and 35 are some sort of Bermuda triangle for in-flight entertainment on Lufthansa planes. We had no sound on the flight over and had to wait 40 minutes for the sound to be reset on the flight back.
4. Watching Fever Pitch without sound is still better than watching Herbie Fully Loaded with sound.
5. The American Lufthansa kids meals are waaaaay better than the German Lufthansa kids meals.
6. Arriving late is awesome. No congestion at immigration. No wait for a taxi. Within one hour of landing, we were on our front doorstep. And an hour after that I was asleep.
I've been unpacking and cleaning non-stop since we woke up at the crack of dawn the next morning. And going to bed at 10pm. 10pm! That's just ridiculous. I mean that's my prime knitting time that I'm just sleeping away! If I ever manage to stay up later than the boys, I plan to work on my own version of these super-cool slippers that I found at the department store on our last day in Germany.
Well, I'm off to do some laundry and then go to sleep. To dream of socks.

vacation 2005
Welcome home! I enjoyed reading your vacation posts.
Those slipper really are cute. I hope you'll make the Regia ones and tell us all about it. Welcome home!
Welcome back!
I suspected those slippers were much cuter on the rack than in real life just based on the optimistic cute-feet drawing on the tag. Oh, who am I kidding, I just never think shoes are as cute on me as they seem on the shelf. But I'm still totally looking forward to a cute adult slipper pattern!
I'm guessing that the extra American security, even if it is staffed by Germans, is probably directed by Americans... and I'm guessing that's the source of the problem. ;)
Alison, those look just like a larger version of some of the baby booties in the "50 Baby Bootees to Knit" by Zoe Mellor. Have a look, I bet they're the same pattern.
Hi Alison - check Marlene's blog http://wovenflame.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_wovenflame_archive.html for the August 1st entry.
Those slippers are adorable. You definitely need to reverse engineer and share the pattern :)
Glad you made it back in one piece!
Welcome home! Your vacation posts have been a lot of fun to read.
Welcome home!! Sounds like an awesome trip...thanks for taking us with you! :)
i just found this pattern online for slippers like the ones you want to make - what a coincidence! seems simple enough for even the busiest of moms, so here ya go:

Welcome Back!
I know jetlag sucks. I just got over my jetlag from coming back from France.
Walmart in Canada has those slipper socks too. I have been eyeing them but I have no time to figure them out. Good Luck on the slippers!
Oooh, jetlag and children - a great combination. I sympathise totally. But kids meals on aeroplanes in general - hmmmm not great!
Been there, done that earlier in the month!
Thanks Angela for the link. Marlene did an awesome job! Unfortunately, me no can do the toe-up thing. Plus, I love short-row heels so much, I think I gotta go that way over a sewn heel. I suspect too that the baby bootees are knit similarly with a sewn heel. There's often a sewn seam somewhere in a bootee, whereas proper socks don't have seams. The slipper/socks I saw are actually worked completely flat in two pieces: a bottom and a top piece that are sewn together! I can only imagine that it must be cheaper to produce that way.
Glad you're home safe and sound, and that you had a fabulous vacation!!
Welcome back! I love the slippers you found in that store, they're really pretty. I seem to remember having a pair like that when I was a kid that I loved.
i'm so not looking forward to the jet lag thingy though i've found it's easier to go from Germany to the US (or areas like that) than the other way around. i think every time i've come from the US to germany it takes a few days then the other way just a day or two.
i found the best way to do this is stay up until you would normally sleep then sleep and wake up at a normal time and don't take naps! LOL
i'm going to have to do the same trip in a couple of weeks! (from germany to the US)
those slipper socks are cool! i'm sure that pattern book is fun!
Welcome back! I have to say that between you and the hostess where I work (who is fluent in German and is moving there soon) I really have become fascinated with Germany. I have some studying to do if I ever want to visit. The slipper socks are adorable and i have the utmost confidence that you will come up with a great pattern for them!!
Pls start being creative...I love your slipper socks and know that you'll be able to duplicate them! It so fun seeing products/mags from a different country. Tks for taking us along again on your vacation (fun for us and no packing).
I have a mary jane slipper sock pattern that I should have in pdf format by the end of the week.
Welcome home! So glad you had a fun trip, and that you had fun at the Knit Out with your boys.
Those slipper socks look cute upsized!
I did some wee ones by crochet :P
