why can't yarn grow on trees?

can you see the apple?
The weather has been so gorgeous that we, and apparently every other kid in the Metro Boston area (don't these kids have to go to school?), decided to go apple picking at Marino Lookout Farm. They have a train to take you through the orchard, a hay maze, and wonderful grape canopes over the walkways through the orchard. (Funny, I didn't take any pictures of the apples.)

"a little higher mommy - I can almost reach them!"
If I could pick yarn off a vine, this is what I'd pick.

This gorgeous hand-dyed yarn was sent to me by Jo (she knits such lovely things - go see!) all the way from Australia. This is going to make one beautiful scarf! And although yarn may not grow on trees around here, it looks like the scarves do!

I can't wait to add this grape scarf to the vine. Thanks, Jo!

those scarves, wraps etc look great hanging up there. Sounds like the apple picking was good fun, fruit picking is a favourite in our house too!
What a coincidence! I was just looking for the directions to Marino Farms before I looked at your blog. I am taking my son (after school!) today for apple picking.
Love the scarf vine and the grape colorways. Above mentioned son (he's 9) is making a scarf with some beautiful dark green/grape Manos. ;)Looking forward to seeing the finished Morehouse shawl as well.
The colors on that hand-dyed yarn! It's going to be a truly stunning scarf.
An excellent question: Why doesn't yarn grow on trees? I'd like to replace a few trees in my backyard with yarn trees....oh, and money trees too! :)
Your clapotis turned out beautifully...
alison, krista got my socks, and actually took a picture of them. you can see 'em on her blog :D

I like your scarf display! I also have been thinking of doing a sweater a la your shrug, alternating merino with mohair in feather & fan, though using variegated mohair and solid merino. But since my trees don't grow yarn either, whether or not this happens will depend on if I get $$$ before the yarn disappears. :)
I love your closet of scarves - so lovely!
Hey! I used to live 3 minutes from Marino Lookout Farms--nice to see that it's still there and thriving.
All you'r scarves look so pretty. I really love that turquoise feather and fan shrug. Did that have a pattern or did you wing it? I think it would look really neat as a full length sweater/ coverup type of thing.
also, what is the brand of that australian yarn? it's gorgeous.
All of your scarves are so beautiful! That deep purple will be a great addition :)
Wow! What fabulous grapey yarn!!
Oooh, that yarn is YUMMY! And it looks so soft! Can't wait to see it as a scarf.
BTW, thanks for the encouraging words about my Weasley sweater. Really very nice of you! I was about to really start to hate this sweater! But I've soldiered on, and now I'm happier with it.
Peggy, the label on the Australian yarn says "Lisa G." Her website is at http://www.lisag.com.au. And the feather and fan shrug was a pattern from a NYC yarn store called Downtown Yarns.
Oh I am so glad the yarn arrived safely and you like it! I can't wait to see the scarf!
