weasleys' weekly wizard wheezes

Cristina finished her HiP scarf and wore it to her local Oktoberfest
fellow knitsmith, May, recently showed up at knitting group with this amazing finished Heraldic Lion sweater for her daughter - she's going to make another one for her other daughter - May is INCREDIBLE!
Ruth made an Azkaban scarf and some very handsome looking House Mittens
Songbird has finished her daughter's Gryffindor scarf (she's going to be Hermione for Halloween - isn't that cool?)
and I finished my Harry Potter socks!

Dani's gryffindor sock yarn knit up so great (I heard she might make some more!). So as not to interrupt the perfect striping that she's put into the yarn, I cut out the yellow sections while working my standard short-row heels and toes, so they are solid red. The colors are so amazing!

Amy is almost finished with her Azkaban scarf - see the cool pics of the inside of the scarf!
Ann's making progress on her daughter's Azkaban scarf (she's going to be Ginny for Halloween!)
D is making a beatiful Ravenclaw scarf
Emily's got the right yarn for her Hogsmeade hat (can't wait to see this one!)
Kara also just got her yarn and will be starting her scarf right away
Karlie has started her scarf (no pics yet), but her fiance still has to learn how to knit his!
KnittingNurse got her yarn and has started her HiP scarf
Stacie got her Azkaban scarf yarn (no pics yet)
and, more good news, my weasley yarn finally arrived!

S. saw me taking pics of the yarn and wanted to take one of me

Hey, a reader wrote in that she saw someone working on a Harry Potter type scarf on the Boston commuter rail going to Haverhill this Wednesday. Was it any of you weasley knitters out there? We're everywhere!

(I'm off to Rhinebeck this afternoon. I hope to see lots of you there! Hubby's not coming with, which means I won't be able to do any blog updates while I'm away - I'm useless with computers without him! So I'll tell you all about it on Monday.)

I'm sure someone, someday, is going to spot me on the Boston public transport system working on my Gryffindor scarf, but the Haverhill knitter was not me! We surely are everywhere.

I love those socks!!! Where did you get the yarn?? I need to make some.

What's that on the floor behind you.... a quilt??

I love your HP socks! Just thought - hey, I can do those in KnitPicks Essentials - but no, colors are too limited. I'm off to find some other yarn in the appropriate colors.

I will probably have pictures up later this weekend, but I have finished (mostly) the Slytherin scarf! It just needs to be blocked (today) and fringed.

I started my hubby's Weasley sweater last night!

Oh yeah, sorry for the early update. I'll be gone all weekend, so it's either update early or not at all. Keep sending your updates and I'll definitely put them in next week's weekly wizard wheezes.

Kimberly, Dani hand-painted the yarn. There's a link to her etsy store in the post. She's taken a break from making the Gryffindor yarn for a little while, but I think she may be making a few more skeins soon. She makes lots of other beautiful hand-painted yarns though. You gotta see the watermelon yarn!

Helene, it's just our kitchen rug. I like to take pics in the kitchen because the white floor makes a good background. S. found me kneeling on the floor taking pics of the yarn and snapped that pic of me sitting by the rug.

Awesome socks!

I'm done the knitting on my Weasley, and am plodding through the seaming. I should have finished photos soon! (I'll let you know when I do.)

That would have been ME on the Haverhill train! I have been hauling around the Gryffindor scarf as commuter knitting, though the last couple days I've taken socks instead, since the scarf is getting a bit too long to be easily portable. (Knitting in the round is tough when you have such a long object to work on--the scarf ends up as a giant corkscrew.)

I LOVE your Gryffindor socks! :-)

I'm lovin' the Gryffindor socks! I've got a skein of Ravenclaw yarn in the making from Dani, which I'm really excited for :)

Because I'm considering making my Weasley sweater, where did you get the pattern from? I remember seeing a kit online somewhere, and hearing that people had had problems as they would receive the yarn in the kit but not the promised pattern. Thanks for any info! :-D

Your socks ROCK! I hope Dani makes some more yarn soon. I've been obsessively checking her website.

Great socks! Self-striping hand dyed yarn... wow.

Nice socks. Did you see my note about Socktoberfest? you can still join, if you are interested.

Alison your socks are beautiful!! I am deffinatly going to order some sort of HP related yarn by the end of the month, I feel sad not having anything HP on the needles :(

Posted by: Karen at October 14, 2005 2:53 PM

Sadly, the yarn shop I ordered my Weasley yarn from, A MONTH AND A HALF AGO, has, um, golly...LOST MY ORDER. Last week, it was on its way. Now it is gone, and I must find someone reliable and speedy to order from. I am just the teensiest bit bitter about this turn of events, but will persevere.

Gotta get me some Griffindor sock yarn -- daughter saw your socks and is hooked. She says she'll have more next week. We are waiting....

I love the socks and I am SO impressed at how good your boys' photography is getting!

Woo-hoo, I got published! see my blog for details!

You continue to amaze me with your knitting talents -- when I grow up I want to be as skilled as you! So, what is the plan for the Rowan Ginger felted tweed? That's a very cool yarn -- can't wait to see what it will become!

The socks are gorgeous!!! I love that yarn...thank you for the link before.
I aspire to be one day as good as you are in knitting...I just love to see your work.

Those socks are fab...I'll be thinking about you today while I'm hitting IKEA! :-)

I love how your socks came out Alison! I can't wait to see what you and Johanna bring back from Rhinebeck :) Hugs

Alison! Thanks for commenting on my blog. As far as my friend can remember (I was too busy attempting to take the photos to have been bothered to ready the sign), J.K. Rowlings was at Chatsworth presenting a prize. She presented the Firebolt to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire for the Chatsworth Collection.

I've finished my Weasley! Yay!

I've been meaning to tell you, I finally finished Abby's Harry sweater, although it isn't the best picture. And I'm too stinking pregnant-sick to care enough to take another one. Oh well. She loves it, and has worn it to school repeatedly. Liv is anxious for her Ron sweater. I will not commit to when I'm knitting that one. Thanks for the knitalong!
