tuesday is knitalong day

Here's the latest round of finished socks that I've found or heard of:

Ann-Marie
Elizabeth
Jackie
Jaime
Jenn
Melanie
Neysa
Nicole
Sarah
Selena
Stinkerbell
Vicki

That brings our "no socks" percentage to 14%. We're getting close to a viable number! I've heard from a handful of you that you are definitely still working (hooray!) and I'll be sending out more emails to those pals listed as not finished and who I have not heard from. So I hope to see that number go down more by next week. After that the sock saviors will be on duty!

Speaking of the sockless pals, as I still haven't heard a peep from my pal (nor has the person who knit for her), I went ahead and treated myself to some super-fantabulous sock yarn from Shelridge Farm while at Rhinebeck. This is their Soft Touch Ultra (it's superwash!) fingering weight yarn.

There was only one skein each of the beautiful variegateds, so I picked out a couple of coordinating solids for heels and toes. I'm so excited about these and I feel so good about how much my pal liked her socks that it's easy to forget that my pal dropped out. (Plus, so many of you have been so nice and supportive, I feel like that's a gift much better than any old pair of socks. Thanks!)

I think your pal must have been overwhelmed by the thought of having to knit for you! I would have been! Your knitting is so good that most of us can't compare. But I hope you won't let that stop you from doing sockapal3za.
Your new socks will be wonderful in those colours.

Who knows if you'll get the socks that were intended for you, but I know the joy you got from knitting your pal's socks, and I imagine that the giving aspect of this is multiplied greatly because you, in a way, gifted 250 pairs of socks by organizing this!

That new yarn though, mm mm good! Can we take a trip up to Shelridge Farm next? ...and stay there!

Well, I didn't run into you at Rhinebeck, but I trust you had as excellent a time as I did. So nice for the sun to finally come out too! I also gorged on some fab sock yarn, Socks That Rock from the Fold. Check them out if you haven't yet. Their colorways are to die for.

Yeah, I haven't seen my socks yet. My pal said they were mailing them right near the 15th when they emailed me, but they haven't emailed me back since then, and I haven't seen them. Oh well. I still enjoyed the swap, so I'll live if they don't show!

I sent my socks out, but not heard if she received them...

I would love to knit a pair of socks for my sock pal. She has been amazing to me. And she hasn't gotten a pair either. So if her pal doesn't come through I'm here.

I'm glad things are looking up for the swap. That sock yarn is beautiful. I checked out their site, but they only had solids up (although beautiful solids). I'll have to email and see how I can get my hands on some variegateds. Enjoy it for all your hard work for us :)

I haven't a clue if I'm in the 86% or the 14% - but I received lovely socks from my pal (nonaknits), my pal got hers (Rosekimknits), and we're all set :)

I'm so happy that my sock pal got her socks... but I'm still sock-less myself. It's all good though, I got an email from them a couple of weeks ago telling me it might be a little while. It will just make it that much better when I receive the socks, right? :)

if you need someone to knit a pair of socks for a sockless pal just let me know - i loved my socks and i know my pal liked hers, so i would be happy to make a second pair (might need a few weeks) let me know - Sharon

I'm still waiting for my socks, and I haven't heard anything from the pal who's supposed to knit for me. But maybe s/he emailed me and got stuck in my spam filter, so I'll keep my fingers crossed and wait a bit longer.

If you've got any beginners in the 14% I'd be happy to knit socks for them.

oh wow! i've been wanting to try the shelridge farms yarns... i haven't seen variegateds by them before -- gorgeous!! lucky you!

I hope there's a sockapal3za... I'd love to do it next time! I couldn't this time -- I'm currently hosting a crocheted sock swap over at Crochetville with a much smaller set of participants (~16 or so, including myself?) and that was about as much sockstress as I can deal with at the same time. ;)

Oh, Alison, I hope your sock pal comes through! I have a feeling that even if she doesn't you'll get some pretty fabby socks nonetheless. You have a very devoted following.

Unfortunately, I think people underestimate how hard it can be to knit on a deadline and get swept up in the fun of an "along". And sometimes, sh*t just happens. I'm still giving your pal the benefit of the doubt - she may be going through rough times.

I love the colorways of the Shelridge Farms yarns that you chose. Beautiful! You'll have some great fiber to work with while you wait!

I'm sorry about your sock pal. Geesh, you go to so much trouble to make this sock thing happen and then you don't even get a pair yourself. Well, if you send me your address, I'll send you a pair of just-knit socks even though I wasn't in the swap. They are pretty neat but they're not blue;-)

Posted by: karen at October 18, 2005 1:57 PM

I really hope that your sock pal has not forgotten about you. That's just bad knitting karma. I am wearing my new socks today and they are wonderful. If you still need Sock Angels, please let me know.

How'd I miss that Shelridge Farms!?! I swear I was in every barn ten times. Ugh. You know how I feel about the sock pal thing - let me know if you need me to knit something. I've got plenty of sock yarn in my stash. ;-)

I love the blue variegated Sheldridge Farms sock yarn. I just got an email from Alison at Circles that she bought a bunch of it at Rhinebeck to sell at her store so I'll be looking for mine there!
In Sockpal news, I sent mine to my sockpal, Christina, on September 16 but she never received them so I think they're officially lost in the mail. She's been so nice about it that I have to make her some more--so I'll be posting Crusoe #2 progress! Apparently Crusoe was an appropriate name for those socks.

I picked up some of the same yarn (in admittedly less fun colours) this weekend at the Creative Sewing & Needlework Festival in Toronto! Canadian yarn is always a good choice. :o)

I really hope you get your socks, it stinks that you haven't yet. I know how you feel about being happy enough that the pal you knit for is happy. That was truly the best part of it all for me. Thanks again.

Hi,
I wish I had to seen Shelridge Farms at Rhinebeck. I love the variegated blue. I did stop at Moorehouse and got more laceweight to support my "habit". Love the way your shawl came out esp. the making of the fringe. I love learning new techniques.Come Visit! :)

Posted by: Diane E. at October 18, 2005 10:11 PM

I haven't heard if my socks were ever recieved, but I guess if you haven't heard from her eoither there may be hope that she has gotten them. I love mine.

knitters shouldnt let other knitters down! let me know if you need any sock saviours. you're going to love the shelridge farm - i used a green from them for my elfine socks, and they're gorgeously soft
