tuesday is knitalong day

Thanks a bunch to all the pals who've sent updates in the last week. Our "no-socks" percentage is down to 9.9%!! And I know that at least a quarter of those folks are still actively working on socks. I like it!

This week's better-late-than-never bunch include: Gracie, Ina, Jaime, Lori, Mary-Heather (no pics - you gotta wait for the surprise, Karen!), Shannon, and Traci Sue (see her socks on Michelle's blog), as well as beginners Lisa, whose finished socks can be seen on her pal Dena's blog, and Rebecca (Rebecca just moved to China - you've got to read some of her posts about life there, like this one!).

I've sent some final emails to double-check that none of the names still in blue belong to pals who did actually finish and send off socks (like Traci, whose socks can be seen on her pal, Cynthia's blog - scroll down to Oct. 1st). But sock savior emails have already gone out to request make-up socks for twelve pals. If you are still waiting for socks, keep me updated. Anyone who hasn't ever heard from their pal will get a substitute pal and anyone patiently waiting for pals to finish knitting, let me know if you stop hearing from them so I can put you on the make-up list.

And since I've got no more sock talk, and know that all you want to hear about is whether I'll be doing some more sock swaps, I'll leave you with pictures of the boys making S'mores. (Wink, wink.)

"we need graham crackers, chocolate bars, and marshmallows"

"the marshmallow gets big then it puffs down"

"Yum!"

While I would definitely like to do the next one (I was just a hair too late for sign ups this time around), I find the smores amusing. It also works to use bamboo skewers and tall unscented taper candles.

Yay for "s'more" sock swaps!

I already have a wonderful pattern picked out, and the yarn to go with it. I just hope I get a sock pal whose preferences are in line with what I'm hoping to make. I think my pattern of choice may be too fancy for my own legs.

Please, give me the excuse to knit these socks. They must be knit!

Love the s'mores!

Already got my sock yarn and pattern ready for s'more! :)

Gotta love the boys making smores in the m-wave... if "you can't go to the campfire, bring the campfire to you!".... what a great mom letting them make gooey treats in the ktichen! :)

Hope they shared!

what about the thing1/thing2 costumes? and which kid is which thing?

Posted by: Ina at October 25, 2005 11:38 AM

How do you live with such cuteness day after day? ;)

Posted by: frecklegirl at October 25, 2005 12:15 PM

Ooh, s'mores! Almost had to break down and go to the store to pick up supplies for my own batch! Gotta say, I love the sweaters that your boys are wearing in the pictures....

Just finished my son's Weasley and I've finished a POA scarf as well. Hallelujah, I made it in time for Halloween and the party at school on Friday. Thanks for hosting the Weasley knit-a-long; I don't think I would have made it without the weekly updates!

Thank you Alison for begining this sock swap. Even though I was one of the 'better late than never' ones, *blush* I will want to do this again. I just need to wait until I am not taking so many classes at once.

I can't wait for next summers swap. Thank you.

Mmmm....s'mores. What gets better than that?

Posted by: Kathy at October 25, 2005 3:50 PM

well, still no socks for me. :-( My pal received the ones I knit for her, and yay, they fit and she liked them!! that's awesome! But no socks for me still, even after two promises saying they were already knit and just forgotten. I'm still interested in signing up for the next time to make a pair for someone else though. I just seem to have had bad luck on the receiving end.

Posted by: gaile at October 25, 2005 9:24 PM

You can make s'mores in the MICROWAVE?!?!? Why did I not figure this out before? Shameful, to think I call myself a s'more lover. I am so doing this tomorrow night after work!

Posted by: Gina at October 25, 2005 11:36 PM

I loved the link to the China blog. We still have Em's split plants that she was wearing when we adopted her in '95. They're in a lovely shadowbox I made with other ephemera from that day. Of course, a year or so ago she demaned we no longer have it in public view...

Posted by: amysue at October 26, 2005 12:10 AM

I got my socks today! Already made a blog update about them. Can't wait for another round!

Any chance you'd let your sock size slip??? ;)

Those two "things" just get cuter by the day, don't they?
S'more sock knitting? Just say the word.

Posted by: Siri at October 26, 2005 2:42 AM

hmmm. never thought about making them in the Micro...arn't I silly. Maybe i'll surprise my american hubby.

Posted by: Orli at October 26, 2005 4:35 AM

My pal is almost done with my pair. She'd found a mistake and had to rip back and fix it.

Posted by: Christina at October 26, 2005 9:46 AM

My socks from Ina arrived yesterday. The postman came during breakfast so I could see and try them before leaving for the office - they made my day.

More on my blog (scroll down a little).

I love the microwave s'more idea - but how long do they go in for...I would hate to overdo it and have popped marshmellow all over the inside of the oven.

Posted by: Darci McGrath at October 26, 2005 1:02 PM

Oh yes, the S'Mores in the microwave thing was a brilliant idea that just came to me (*cough* as I was reading the Marshmallow bag and it was all written out there how to do it! *cough*). Just put some chocolate on a graham cracker half, then the marshmallow on top. Eight seconds or so on High in the microwave and the marshmallow should have rolled off the cracker, puffed up, and stuck to the paper towel below. I quickly jump in with the other graham cracker half, scoop up as much marshmallow as I can, and smoosh it on the chocolate again and voila: it's a total mess, but delicious!!

Posted by: alison at October 26, 2005 4:55 PM

Yay! My socks from my pal Rebecca from Shanghai arrived yesterday! Check them out on my blog.

Posted by: Dorothee at October 27, 2005 7:11 AM

have you tried the Hersheys' smores bars? Dark chocolate...smores....for the sophisticated camper!

Posted by: kathy b at October 27, 2005 9:29 PM
