Lookin' good! :) I have a question in regards to one of your free patterns ... The Keyhole Scarf -- Do you remember how much yarn (worsted weight) you used for the project? Your instructions say "approx. 150-300 yds. worsted weight yarn - depending on scarf length" and I have some stash yarn I might be able to use for it, depending on if it's closer to the 150-200 yard mark. If you don't remember that's okay too. :) Thanks!
I wish I had the patience to do intarsia. You've done a fantastic job!
Oh wow, it's looking AWESOME!
As a fellow knitting twin-mama, I've been watching your progress on these pretty closely. I may steal your idea for next year, honestly. Heck, I'd do it for this year if I thought I had time to knit up two Fun Fur hats. (I'd skip knitting the shirts though, and just buy some Puff Paints and a couple red long-sleeved T-shirts, but I'm lazy like that. grin!)
Wow!! Nice job. I must confess I was a bit skeptical when you started this big project, but you're chuggin' along. I can't wait to see the boys in the costumes. So cute (and very impressive)!
I've been waiting to see you post these pictures and it was worth the wait. It looks perfect!
those are going to be some awesome costumes! i can't wait to see the little tykes in them :)
The intarsia looks great. You are making good progress. I'm sure you'll be done with time to spare.
Wow, your kids are gonna look so cute! What a great idea for costumes. It's looking great, can't wait to see the finished product.
I was lucky I made it time to the store to buy the kids costumes this year, I'm sure they will get knit costumes some day but I should probably start them now :)
Wow, Alison! My mom is still working on the halloween costume she started making for me when I was 7--and I'm 31! Your speed and perseverence here are impressive!!
Will you be my Mommy?
Those are AWESOME! Such lucky boys.
Whoa! That's AWESOME!!! Can't wait to see the boys in costume.
Wicked kewl, indeed! The boys are gonna rock in these costumes! I can't wait to see the finished project.
I remember the costumes that my mom put a lot of love and time into making from my childhood. Great memories. I'm sure your boys will have the same love of handcrafted fun!
Awsome job! I just recently knit Hipster and let me tell you, it was terrible! I had to keep going and not stop in case all the yarn got even more tangled by my devil kitty.
Do your kids have any idea yet that you are the coolest mom in the world? I would have LOVED a Thing 1/Thing 2 costume when I was a kid, and to knit it no less. Get. Out. I was/am such a Seuss fan...
Are you going to post/sell that pattern when you're done with it?
Wow, that is so cool! I have yet to try anything with intarsia. When it takes me at least two months to finish something without it, I just can't even think about how long it would take with it.
WOW! That is awesome! I am so impressed... and amazed with how quickly you are getting them done. I'm sure you will get them both done in time :)
That's just plain awesome. You are going to keep these sweaters in a box to show them when they're much older, right?
These are going to be the best Halloween costumes ever! I hope it's not too cold for tricker-treating -- I'd hate for the boys to have to cover up their fabulous Ts. Have they decided who's "Thing 1" and who's "Thing 2"?
You are a brave, brave woman. ;-)
Just please don't make two 'Thing 1's because I think I'd hear the howl from across the pond... (says she who had to rip out a nearly done mitten THREE TIMES because she'd made two left hands... Duh).
Amazing! You've impressed once again!
I cannot even believe the costumes. They are just too cute. I would do something like that for my three, but with my luck they would be ripping them off half way through Halloween night and be walking around in their normal clothes.
You.Rock. I, the knitterly unworthy mother of one who took the easy way out and bought the pirate costume - we're not even talking cardboard and foil sword making here - humbly bow to you, and eagerly await Thing photos.
Wow! That looks great, so far! I can't wait to see the finished products and how excited the boys will be!
YOU ARE MY HERO!!!
Wow, I've never done intarsia but you've nudged me to give it a try.
It looks great!
be careful with your hand
You can do it, you can do it!
That's me cheering from the sidelines. You are doint a great job!
I know people have been using the word awesome a lot, so I'll try something different. Fantastic! You can do it.
Wow, that rocks! How utterly fabulous.
You are a very talented knit designer. All I can say is "Wow! Those costumes are going to be fabulous."
God, I'm making that argyle wrap from Wrap Style and I had to put it away for awhile it was so annoying to untangle every FIVE rows! :-) I want to get back on it, but taking a trip starting tomorrow. When I get back, I can't wait to see pics of The Things!
I forgot to mention -- did you know that your Thing 1 and Thing 2 costumes were mentioned in the weekly Brookline Booksmith email?
"Some people sew their children's Halloween costumes, but the really industrious ones are the Booksmith Knitting Group who KNIT the costumes, instead. Heck, it makes for a much warmer night of Trick-or-Treating! The fun takes place in Writers and Readers Used Book Cellar Cinemasmith most Sunday afternoons from 4-7pm. If you have questions, feel free to email Dava at >knitsmiths@comcast.net."
Looks fabulous!
You've inspired me to dress up as Thing 1 & Thing 2 (with the boyfriend) for Halloween. I need a little advice, though...where did you get the actually emblems from? I'm not brave enough (or a fast enough knitter) to do intarsia, but I'm hoping to do a little pseudo-applique onto some red shirts.
Oh, man, those ends are freaky-scary. But you're right - it is going to turn out freaking awesome. Can't wait to see the little things in their thing outfits!
Too cool! Are you going to make deadline?
Wow! It does look frickin' awesome. I've never ever tried intarsia. The ends.... ugh, they are frightening! You are brave, and it pays! :)
I have never seen a Halloween costumer as dedicated as you are. I am SO impressed -- and you have to do everything twice!
Thanks so much, everyone. Don't want anyone to think that I'm totally obsessed with Halloween costumes or anything, I just got this idea in my head and I had wanted to make kid-sized versions of the NBaT for a while, so it just seemed like the perfect thing to do. The mini-NBaT pattern will be available in December in MagKnits and I'll post the hat pattern (for what it's worth - it's so simple!) here this week.
Just FOUR more days!! Aaaaaahhhhhh!
Oh and my hand is just fine, don't worry. I had only felt the slightest twinge last week. The day off really did the trick. Plus, the intarsia is so much slower, I'm not using my hand near as much as I would doing plain stockinette. Just wait 'til next month when I try to finish the weasley sweater in time for the HP: GoF release!!
wouldn't it have been fast to just knit the front in red and then use fabric paint or applique? looks very impressive, though.
It's looking just wonderful! Intarsia, I admit, is not one of my favorites, though I have done it. You're doing great by your two Things!!
Those look so great! Are the boys going to wear their thing shirts after Halloween also? I think that'd be a hoot!
Ok, Scott is crapping his pants! He wants one too! YOu are doing such a wonderful job :) I hope you all have a wonderful halloween!
You are doing great on these costumes. I love how the intarsia looks. The boys are going to be adorable as 'things'. :-)
intarsia in fact is the reason why I still haven't made my son a Weasley...though it is so very wroth it...
