ami-gu-what-i?

I saw the Amigurumi competition over at Etsy.com and became fascinated with these little crocheted creatures. Just check out these: Sayaka, tiny Noro octopi, Dancing Hippo, Orange Creamsicle Mouse, Krabby Kat, Yarn Boy, Pink Ninja, and Mr. Tampon. I love these things!

Kim, the editor of Crochet Me, is into it. (Read her comments here for a definition of amigurumi and check out the latest issue for a pattern!) There's an Amigurumi-Along! And this amigurumi even started its own blog. Too cool! I really should go take a shower and make the bed and all that, but I just can't stop searching for amigurumi.

I'm in love with amigurumi too. Unfortunately, I can't crochet! So instead, I bought a amigurumi snowman off etsy. hee.

i love amigurumi. I have quite a few pattern books that I purchased from amazon.jp! it's so cute! I just taught myself how to crochet about 2 months ago, but I still haven't attempted one of the patterns.

I love these, especially the Krabby Kat and Pink Ninja. I don't crochet, but I now see it in my future.

Hi Alison! Thanks for the mention! I'm so psyched to see more and more amigurumi around. My addiction continues...

I love Amigurumi! It's the reason I learned to crochet in the first place. There are so many amazing Amigurumi creations, and I haven't stopped making them since the day I learned to crochet (which was only about two months ago:P )

Oh wow. Um. They're cute.. I really wonder who's gonna buy Mr. Tampon.....

NO!!!! I will not be sucked into crocheting cute little Japanese style creatures. It's bad enough that this has me raiding the socl pile...

Those are so cute!!! I must remind myself that I hate to crochet...

I'm just cracking up over Mr. Tampon. That would make the perfect holiday gift, don't you think?

Amigurumi!!!! I've been waiting for them to make it to mainstream America. Maybe this way there will be more patterns in english. I've been doing the Japanese patterns, which are mostly charts, but it would be nice to read them in English! I am glad that more people are getting into it here.

Those are so cute...I wish I knew how to read crochet instructions now.

I could get so easily obsessed with amigurumi! I've seen them before and had to look away quick. They are so friggin' cute I can hardly stand it! I learned to crochet before learning to knit so the patterns would be no problem.
For all of the knitters out there afraid of crochet - it really is not hard at all. Get a good teacher and practice. And for the snotty knitters that think crocheting is beneath them - get over it.
Alison, I'm glad you came across these! I'll need to find a reason to make some of these after the holidays!

Mr. Tampon is too funny. I just showed him to my husband who said, "what's that?" Oh brother!!!

Oh my! I usually think that type of thing is tacky, but those are SO cute! And I just happened to see the post the very afternoon my 9yo dd had said "Mommy, we don't need toys from the store, because Daddy can make anything out of wood, and you and I can make anything out of fabric or yarn!"

Posted by: Wendi at December 6, 2005 11:35 AM

Awww, how sweet, Wendi. "We don't need toys from the store." Wow, you two must have made a lot of cool things for him to say that!
