the spirit of giving

Are you all done with your holiday knit gifts?

jump for joy!

It's time for the holiday knitalong contest! There are five gifties to give away to the generous knitters who participated in the knitalong and made so many incredible gifts for their friends and families.

1) 1 ball Calmer in white (great for the Aura cap or Shedir from last fall's Knitty surprise issue)
2) 1 skein Atacama alpaca in variegated pinks - this would make such a fabulous hat!
3) 1 skein handpainted worsted from Woolarina - 160 yards of beautiful blues
4) set of beautiful stitch markers made and donated by Raellyn
5) Rowan's Froth gift pack, including two skeins Kid Silk Haze and scarf pattern, donated by Stephanie

So get your final number in to me today, get your gold star, and I'll pull names over the weekend!

And on the thirteenth day of Christmas, my UPS man gave to me... (sing along now)

Two capezio shoes. And I'm ready to make the knit boots!

Glad to hear the boots came. :)

Wow, I like the look of the black much better than the weird beige of the demonstration shoes.

These shoes are the craziest idea!! I can't wait to see yours. What color are you making them? I'm really excited that you're trying these.

Ah, Capezio. Makes me miss dance classes and theatre! (They make GREAT character shoes)

Posted by: Amber at January 6, 2006 10:02 AM

Ah, character shoes! I'm now having flashbacks of show choir and Hello, Dolly! rehearsals from high school. Too bad my feet grew when I was pregnant or I might be able to dig those out of storage and make boots, too!

I didn't formally participate in the knitalong, as I was a Brand Shiny New knitter just before the holidays, but I did manage to complete as gifts:
1 new-style Harry Potter scarf (Gryffindor)
1 pair of self-patterning socks
1 miniature sock
3 pairs of fuzzy feet felted slippers (one started out at 52cm long!)
1 Branching Out lace scarf
2 100% hand-dyed silk Clapotis scarves
2 celtic caps (from the designer of Rogue)
1 navy blue watchcap
1 fancy cabled belt

This represents my entire output as a knitter thus far... I think I'm going to be selfish and make something for myself next. :)

I finished all mine 4 of 4! They were:

1 Fleece Artist Scarf for J's Teacher
1 Fleece Artist Scarf for my soon to be SIL
1 Flora Scarf (from knitty) for M's Teacher
1 Klaralund for my mom

All done before Christmas.

Great KAL idea!

Happy New Year Alison.

Yay! You got your shoes :D Can't wait to see the progress!

What time are you wanting my final numbers. I may finish today, but you could already be in bed, so I don't want to miss out.

Posted by: Leisel at January 6, 2006 1:48 PM

I can't wait to see the boots..maybe then I will try.

Posted by: Michelle at January 6, 2006 3:21 PM

I posted my last update on the holiday blog a bit ago, so I'm really done now, hooray!

I am intrigued by the boots. I don't think I could pull them off, but intrigued nonetheless.

Posted by: Jenn at January 6, 2006 3:39 PM

I too am intrigued by the boots. Can't wait to see them in progress, let alone finished. Have fun with the drilling.

Okay, I'm setting my goal that by the end of this year, I'll be good enough at knitting that I'd be able to enter the knitalong-contest and win some gorgeous things!

Posted by: Elemmaciltur at January 6, 2006 6:53 PM

My list was seriously chopped, but I did finish three:
1) Felted purse for my niece
2) Sweater for Mom
3) My sister's last year's Christmas sweater

Posted by: Michelle at January 6, 2006 7:20 PM

Woo hoo the shoes came...hopefully you know your UPS person well enough so that you didn't have to mask your excitement. I knew my limitations for holiday knitting (with my endless bouts of startitis and the mounting piles of UFOs). So...I only knit two holiday gifts (I am much better at birthday gifts...my total there since I started knitting again is 12 I believe).
So the 2 gifts were:
1) Noro reverse rib scarf for my hubby for Hanukah
2) Felted purse for my friend, Jill

Where is the boot pattern? I can't wait to see what they look like!

Posted by: Shara at January 6, 2006 8:02 PM

Oh. I miss dancing! Those Capezios are some comfy shoes. Enjoy knitting them up--they are definitely different!

Posted by: Kirsten at January 6, 2006 9:22 PM

those boots are made for knitting, and that's just what they'll do. one of these days those boots are gonna knit all over you. (ducks and runs)

Posted by: minnie at January 6, 2006 10:44 PM

Well, your influence hasn't quite convinced me that I want to make a pair of those boots yet. However, seeing those shoes reminds me that I'd have a choice of white, black, or beige if I could find that old dance bag around here.

Posted by: Laura at January 7, 2006 12:20 AM

(Stopping by from Lurker ville) Are you serious? I'm worried you may end up on 'You Knit What?' or 'Dancing with the Stars'! Have fun with that!

Posted by: Ande at January 7, 2006 12:10 PM

Well, Tina Marrin has agreed to do an interview with me on my podcast in the next couple of weeks - I can't wait! I told her you were doing the KAL and she stopped by your site. She mentioned that the reason black shoes are a little harder to use is the marking part of the process.

Anyhow, I will buy the shoes this week. I LOVE Capezios - but I'm not sure I'll be using them. :O)
