selfish knitting

With the whole cork-sweater-down-the-drain thing and the whole knitting-for-hubby thing, the new year's selfish knitting has really fallen to the wayside. Enter Dani and her fabulous hand-painted yarns.

She calls this colorway "neapolitan" and it is just as yummy as it sounds. In one selfish night of knitting I made it all the way to the heel! It was just what I needed. You know, when you're feeling down, there's nothing like ice cream to cheer you up. (That and maybe a little shoe drilling and boot knitting. Coming tomorrow!!)

I love it! This is a good thing since some Dani Neopolitan is on the way to me. I found Dani through your blog.

oooh i love this yarn!! i just bought some handpainted as well....
what sock pattern are you using???
i am amazed at how fast you knit!!!

Those look fantastic! You deserve some "selfish" quick knitting that doesn't fight you like the cork did!

[and thank you AGAIN for your backwards yarnover hourglass heel (and toe) tutorial -- even with PG-R's book I get confused, but thanks to your tutorial, now I have it completely down and I don't have to refer to any documentation on it anymore!]

As you know, I looked and looked for a pink-brown colorway like this in time to make R some socks for Christmas -- but no luck. Ever since, the very sight of it aggravates me! Childish, I know. (But your socks sure are pretty! :) )

Thank you for pointing out Dani's site. I just bought some Violet. Really wanted multiple skeins, but have to be good. :) Can't wait until it gets here!

Ooh, those colors look so pretty!! Ice cream "flavored" socks? Perfect for selfish knitting!

Posted by: --Deb at January 12, 2006 11:11 AM

Yummy!

I also found Dani's yarns through your site, and bought 2 skeins (Rock Creek & Winterberry) to make up for never being quick enough to get the Gryffindor yarn! Your Neapolitan socks are already farther along than my Rock Creeks, though, and they look great.

Wonderful looking socks and nice colour too!

That is insanely beautiful yarn. Wow. I want to eat it. And get cracking on my sock learning!! I'm still in the leg of my first cuff-down sock, and can't wait to finish up so I can knit more.

The colorway has more of a pink cast in those photos than I remeber it in real life (albeit under artificial light). Still, it's lovely.

Posted by: Colleen at January 12, 2006 12:45 PM

Yes, well Colleen, colors are not guaranteed as they may vary in different monitors. ;0) You're right of course that the "pink" is quite lilac-y in real life.

Posted by: alison at January 12, 2006 1:47 PM

Oh, what a great colorway those are! I'm not a big fan of pink, but those could make me a believer.

That's very pretty yarn.

I thought you might appreciate this since your boys play with legos: http://homepage.mac.com/aklego/iMovieTheater23.html

Alison, I've been reading your blog forever, thank you, it's my first read each morning. Question on the sockapalooza?? I'd like to join, read about it on others' blogs, have made a half dozen pairs or so, how good are all of you at this? Does an advanced beginner sock-knitter work in this illustrious group? Knitting I've been doing for ever, so it's just the fit of the sock that concerns me. Thoughts?

Posted by: Connie at January 12, 2006 2:35 PM

I can't hold back anymore! I keep seeing all these gorgeous knitted socks on all the blogs and I want to make myself at least a pair! Well, I've made up my mind: My next two projects will be the hat for my mum's birthday and a pair of socks! That'll be my first time knitting in the round! Oh well, besides, my scarf's about 3/4 finished.

My neapolitan just arrived. I thought it would be nice for my SIL who loves pinks and browns. Now I can see what it looks like knitted up. It looks great! And you've gotten so far already.

I really want to learn short row heels - I love how that looks. What pattern do you recommend? I am okay with gussets but really tired of the gaps.

Posted by: Darci at January 12, 2006 6:41 PM

Selfish knitting - my favorite kind! The socks are beautiful and sometimes something like that is just the ticket wehn other projects go awry. Can't wait to see the drilling!

WOW love those colors. Beautiful sock!
Did you use the hourglass heel on that? May I ask where you got the instructions for it? I have the instructions in the twisted sisters' book, but I've been unhappy with the results I usually get from it (loopy on one side of the heel).

I resisted for almost 12 HOURS, but finally gave in and ordered a skein of her yarn for myself. I blame you! (grin)

Posted by: --Deb at January 12, 2006 10:43 PM

Oooo! Negative-calorie ice cream! ;)

Posted by: Andrea at January 13, 2006 10:19 AM

OMG--Alison!! I love that color! Your socks look fabulous too...

Posted by: Renada at January 13, 2006 12:10 PM

That colorway is fab. I want some!

Posted by: stephanie at January 13, 2006 3:50 PM

Love them! That colorway is so fun! And I don't care what anyone says, selfish knitting is great because you KNOW the receipient will enjoy it:)
