from italy to germany via iceland

I finished my Neapolitan socks!

wanna see B's picture?

I had been knitting these a little at a time when I was taking a break from projects for others. I was in no rush. They were a delight to knit, so why speed through it and miss all the enjoyment? Then I received this box from my old sockapal2za sock pal, Carola.

I sent her a drill and she sent me a radio!

Inside were all sort of fun treats from Iceland, including some Lopi ("it's scratchy," she writes), some Icelandic candy ("there is always something surprising inside...you have been warned"), and this Regia Nation sock yarn.

Go, Krauts!

I had admired these socks on Carola's blog last summer and desperately wanted to get some of the yarn to make socks for the upcoming World Cup, which is in Germany this time. And Carola sent me the yarn. Hooray!

But the needles I needed were in the Neapolitans. So I rushed.

The Neopolitan socks are lovely!!

Isn't that Regian Nation Color fun?? I have several colors of it waiting to be knit...

In suspense about the surprises that await you inside Icelandic candy... hopefully they aren't as surprising as Burty Botts (sp)!

New magazines are in at Webs and I was very tickled to see your name in Knit1 as the German translator, right alongside Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton no less.

You also popped up in Amy Singer's column in Interweave, but there wasn't any blog information given which I was a little disgruntled about...

Ooooh. I love them!

Wanna join my Superbowl Sunday Challenge??? Come check it out.

Shoot! It posted before I was done.

I wanted to say that I want a nice, easy sock pattern the next time I make a pair for myself. The Jaywalkers were fun, but way too dang frustrating!

The Neopolitan socks are terrific. I've been looking at those Sunshine yarns yerningly for quite some time - I'll have to figure out a way to convince my husband I really really do need another hank of sock yarn. Maybe I can persude him that it would be a great Valentine's Day gift!!

Prezzies are so fun!! And all the way from Iceland - even better!!! Your dessert socks are lovely.

I like the Neopolitan socks and was wondering what yarn that was. I am making a pair in the Neopolitan colorway from Vesper Sock Yarns, but they are quite different from that.

Beautiful Neapolitan socks! If the sunshine yarns are nothing for my sockapaloooza pal then maybe something for me. Hehe. But oh, I didn't mean to rush you through a relaxing project ;-) On the other hand, the tech guy(s) deserve(s) more socks. Amazing! I had so much fun with the maps. Thank you all there in the Sockapaloooza team.

I love the Neopolitain socks---they look soft and yummy. What a great mix! And so glad to make the acquaintance of box 2 :O)

Wow, I love the colourway of your Neapolitan socks! I'm making a pair of Pomatomus socks in Fleece Artist sock yarn and they have a little of that pink in them, along with a lot more green. The spring colours are nice to work with in the middle of winter! =)

Your neapolitan socks look delicious! All your sock blogging (and your revived interest in them) has finally motivated me. Well, you and Lu (Maglia!) have finally pushed me to order some sock yarn and dpn's. Love your wonderful tech guy socks...so appropos here in Silicon Valley!

That Regia yarn is awesome! But if I knit up a pair of schwartz-rot-gold, I'd have to knit one pair of rot-weiss to keep peace in the family. Actually, that's not such a bad idea...

I haven't seen that Regia nation yarn before and will now have to get myself some! *I am an Army brat who was born in Berlin. :)

Your socks look beautiful. I may have to use my Sunshine yarn next, just as soon as my current pair is done . . . or, well, technically, after the Olympics!

Posted by: --Deb at February 5, 2006 4:34 PM

Oops. I just ordered 2 balls of that yarn and 2 of the Italy colorway plus a hank of the site's own yarn... Seth will insist on thinking of it as the Belgian colorway (though he acknowledges it's also the German colorway). Dang internet... I thought I was going to get away with not shopping today but I guess not!

OMG! That's the thing I'm missing. I need to knit up socks in German flag's colours! I mean, now that I just had my moment of triumph last night with socks: I could turn the heels and got the gusset shaped! Now I'm on to knitting the sole and instep....the only thing I have to learn now is how to shape the toe. And after that, I'll be able to knit socks!!!!!

your socks are the most beautiful. i think i want to eat them.

i had a brainwave the other day. is there some talented person who could design a sockapaloooza label that we could print out & personalize (with names, yarn, fiber content, washing instructions, etc.) when we send out our socks? like the ones for the holiday gifts, but specifically for sockapaloooza.

brillant or deluded?

Posted by: rocketbride at February 5, 2006 7:09 PM

wow, i misspelled brilliant. that's...real smart.

Posted by: rocketbride at February 5, 2006 7:10 PM

Very cool Neopolitan socks. I love the way the colors behaved, dispersed so evenly!

Posted by: Amy Lu at February 5, 2006 8:21 PM

love it all!!

Posted by: emily at February 5, 2006 9:22 PM

Nice idea, Rocketbride! I can try to make up some labels with the sock monkeys on them. How's that sound?

Posted by: alison at February 5, 2006 10:16 PM

wow. awesome colors! those neopolitan socks look (quite literally), yummy.

Posted by: jeni at February 5, 2006 11:31 PM

Hi Alison, did you ever knit anything with your Ewa's sockenwolle from Germany that someone sent you back in August last year? I was so taken with the picture you posted that I finally got my hands on some myself recently (just put pics on my blog) and was wondering how it knit up. Best wishes. PPx

love the neo socks and that regia nation is fun FUN

Posted by: rebecca at February 6, 2006 10:45 AM

Nothin like "needing those needles" to get a project finished! Yay! Love the Neopolitans. :)

Posted by: Laura at February 6, 2006 11:15 AM

Your Neapolitans are to die for. I bought myself a skein of that colorway after I saw your sock-in-progress at Claudia's. It makes me happy just looking at it. Wonderful stuff!

Posted by: Beth S. at February 6, 2006 12:31 PM

it all looks quite yummy

Posted by: Orli at February 8, 2006 4:37 AM

Hey! I have that same sock yarn. My hubby bought it for me in Germany in 2004! I need to knit it up!

Posted by: Steph VW at February 8, 2006 12:18 PM

What kind of candy did she send? I LOOOOVE chocolate covered licorice.
