Another sneak peek at a design in progress. But this one has a serious problem. Can you see it?
I couldn't see it myself until I finished the first piece late at night and held it up to the light to admire it and congratulate myself. Disaster!
Yup, two different dye lots of white. I work at a yarn store for goodness sake, you'd think I would have checked the dye lots! Nope. I've got 8 balls of the yarn, only two are from a different dye lot and wouldn't you know it, I picked up one of those to start the whole dang thing.
I'm not ripping. There's way too much knitting already done. I've loved knitting it, but I can't go back and reknit it all. Nope, it's gonna be cut and graft for this little design. For now it's in time out until I can forgive it for foiling me and myself for being so dumb.

I know that you'd like to wear this at some point, but it's not going to show in pictures is it? Is it worth the work of cutting and grafting now? Put that piece aside and start working on the next one. Who would have thought that dye lots would matter with white? Sigh.
Stop...your busy and anxious to start a new project and simply forgot to check the numbers.
Smart solution, but where's the mystery pinks/orange project?
OH man, that happened to me with cream yarn...I guess I just figured the cream dyelots would all be the same. nope.
One would hope that white would be white - but one would be mistaken apparently... Sorry to hear it.
I know I sometimes forget about the dye lot thing. It rarely comes up but when it does, it usually isn't pretty. Though you knitting is very pretty. My interest is piqued.
Perhaps when you are finished you could dye it?
Just a thought
your sockapaloooza database won't let me in to check it off.... but my socks are here :)
Oh thank you Orli - I thought I was the only one. I have to look sooo hard to see where it possibly is - is it really obvious in real life? Where I think it might be looks like maybe a shadow -
boy this is rambling - excuse is I went to bed at 5:30am and haven't had coffee yet ;)
Don't feel that it is totally your fault. I was working on a prayer shawl last week and I made sure that the dye lot numbers were all the same on the ball bands of the yarn I was using. I got to the last ball, and began knitting with it. The colors (varigated) were noticeably off - if you looked in daylight (not indoors light). I couldn't believe it!!! I double-checked everything, and yup - the dyelot was supposedly the same. I was IRKED!! I called the manufacturer (from whom I ordered the yarn) - and now will have to wait until they send me another couple of balls and pray that they will match. The manufacturer's response (this had happened to me once with another yarn they make) - oh yeah, that happens sometimes (!!!!!). So now I will go to the window to double check my yarn before I buy it - but of course you can't do that when you order over the internet. You count on the company to do that. Good luck!
I don't work at a yarn shop, but I ALWAYS forget to check. I guess I just get so excited by the yarn I forget what I'm doing. Thankfully the cashier usually catches it for me. It really isn't all that noticeable though.
Here's a fix (if you're using cotton) that worked perfectly when I had the same problem when knitting a white cotton blanket. I washed it in a cool water/ chlorine bleach solution when finished, and the color difference disappeared completely. (BTW, I thoroughly enjoy your blog. Thanks.)
I really can't tell in the pictures. I don't think it would show when it's being worn, either. Although overdyeing sounds like a kind of fun thing to try!!
Yeah, test out a bleach solution or using one of those delicates whiteners on a swatch. You never know.
It's not glaringly obvious to me, but then, I'm not there holding it in my hand.
If it's too obvious to display as-is in the yarn store, I do like the suggestion about dyeing it or bleaching it, if possible.
Dude the problem is the teeny needles!!
The different dye lot situation happened to me a year ago, and I have been knitting cotton sweater by order! Things like this happen alway when you really don't need them! Luckilly yarn was cotton so I simply dyed finished sweater (and almost ruined my bathroom)!
If you can really only see it when you hold it up to a light, then chances are noone will notice it on you. I honestly would not bother graphing it, but then again, I often follow the philosophy of making mistakes design features.
Whites that don't match? What's the world coming to, anyway? Totally evil.
two different dyelots of.. white?! that's just wrong.
Maybe a little sunshine would even that out? Lucky it's white as you can lemon juice it even if you need to... Good luck.
The design is gorgeous! Can't wait to see the finished item! I've had that happen to me one time with white yarn.
You could overdye it with a darkish colour when you're done - then it wouldn't matter.
Oh! Definitelly a drag, but, to be honest, I didn't notice it until you pointed it out.
What if you intended the difference unconsciously? did it on purpose just to find out about change? I love the softness of your knitting. Please stop worrying.
