going on a ribbon hunt
It was a beautiful day yesterday in Boston, so the boys and I went out to the Public Garden for a ride on the swan boats and a quick trip to the Paper Source across the street.

We spotted a great ribbon for crinkle right away and then the boys granted me a whole four more minutes to see if there were any others that were better. I did find a second one I liked and since I didn't think I could decide between the two before boy meltdown occurred, we dashed over to the counter to get both.

The boys earned an ice cream cone for coming with me to the store and we rode on the swan boats one more time before heading home, where I could decide on that ribbon and finish up a still slightly curly crinkle. Yes, the blocking had only moderate results.

Most of the edging now lies sort of perpendicular to the garment, instead of lying down flat. It's not completely flipped up anymore, so that's actually a huge improvement. It looks pretty much like in the image in the book, with plenty of natural curl left in but still just enough picot showing to add that frilly element to the sweater.
So, what ribbon did I pick? How's it look? You'll have to wait until I shower and steal my photographers away from their legos to see....

Love both the ribbons but I am partial to the pink and green. Back in the heyday of preppiedom in the 80's pink and green was IT!
I love them both, but hope it's the orange-y one!
Oooo both are pretty but even though I love green and pink I think I like the orange and pink one better! Waiting for my blue glace to arrive so I can crinkle too!
I'd iron the edging with serious elbow grease, Grumberina-style. And I'd choose the green ribbon.
You know, I never think of Paper Source for ribbon, but it looks like they have a lovely selection!
"boy meltdown" - I SO hear that! I stopped by my LYS last night "for just a minute" and was interrupted in my sock yarn awe by my 10 year old son saying, "Mom, come look at this!" He'd found the spinning wheel in the next room and had that thing going 90mph!!! I about had a heart attack!
I hope you picked the ribbon with the green. :o)
hhmmm, i'm going to guess the ribbon on the left! :) and i also recommend a heavy pressing with the iron. anything can be tamed with a hot iron!
MY VOTE: While I absolutely love the orange/pink ribbon, I think the subdued pink/gray combo would be best.
I'm guessing the one at the right, it would really "fun up" all the pink ;-)
I'm betting you picked the ribbon on the left, while I would certainly have swooned over the ribbon on the right - aaah, pink and orange together! :)
I like both! They're both very cute. Can't wait to see.
I really like the non-plaid ribbon. It really looks like a similar color pink.
what a fun day with the boys. it must be so neat to have all of these shops and activities so close by.
yup, i'm jealous ;-P
What beauteous ribbon! Either is a great finishing touch. I'm partial to orange plaid, sort of a madras-y look (but maybe that's not what's wanted?).
After all this watching, I think I must Crinkle too.
I hope you picked the bright ribbon!
They're both perfect in their own way, but I have to root for the pink and orange one. MMmm, pink and orange :)
I vote pink and green. :-D
Gosh, this voting is fairly evenly split. I vote for the orange and pink plaid. Can't wait to see it finished.
I made Crinkle in red, your Crinkle is beautiful.
