back in the saddle again

Apparently I have not forgotten how to knit (despite a three-week forced knitting pause - it's true, I did no knitting at my in-laws due to 90 degree heat, no air conditioning and not a single fan). What a relief (knitting again, having air conditioning, the mere sound of a fan, all of it!).

blue suede shoes
(Velvet Touch; Fiber Trends pattern CH-36)

While I was not making progress on the baby geek sweater, the mom-to-be made serious progress on the baby, delivering him the last week in July. We got to meet the baby boy this weekend and not wanting to visit empty-handed, I whipped up some chenille booties for the wee one. Velvet Touch makes the softest little booties you ever felt. And they fit his little feet perfectly.

I still got it!

Welcome Back!! Those booties are perfect but the question I have for you is this; NO FANS even?!!! Why? The boys are looking so grown up; and so very cute!

Aww, they look so cute! Glad they fit perfectly. I can't wait to see the little sweater all finished too! Enjoy the lovely temperatures! -Dani

No knitting in Germany?? Excuse me, but what was that yarn suitcase for really...??

Posted by: Helene at August 9, 2006 9:36 AM

Awwww...they are darling.

Yes, Helene, well I hadn't expected it to be like equator hot there. The Germans don't get that sort of heat usually. Which is why they don't even own fans. Usually, closing the blinds and opening the windows is enough to cool off their houses. So 90 degrees and no relief at night made knitting there impossible.

(Add to that the fact that EVERY year when we come the temperature usually drops down WAY below average. The last time we were there in the summer, I had to buy all new clothes for the boys and myself because we were freezing. Neighbors were bringing over hand-me-down sweatshirts for the kids! Then there was the early October with frost and freezing temps every morning and the rained out Septembers.... So I never could have expected hot, sunny weather for the whole three weeks!)

LOVE the booties! Will have to try the Velvet Spun for a friend expecting twins. What pattern did you use? Or was that your own lovely creation.

Spent a summer in Bavaria and it was quite warm but not as hot as what you describe. Welcome back to the AC!

Oh, I do like that Velvet Touch. It's a funny one, though; I think it's well-suited to one-skein projects.

Thank goodness you're back! I started scrapbooking while you were gone and haven't picked up the sticks for 3 weeks either (Stitches market is this weekend in Chgo, so I'm sure that will be changing.

i was going to say the same thing about bringing all that yarn over- that's too bad. At least the legos got some use. :)
