sniff, sniff

I just got back from taking the boys off to kindergarten for their first day of school.

They were so excited! And looking at those little faces, I couldn't help but be excited with them. The legos however are feeling very lonely. In fact, although the boys were never worried about missing mommy (or each other - they're in different classes), S did express some concern about going to school "every day!" and not having enough time to do his building. Awwww.

I feel S's pain--how an I supposed to do all my knitting if I have to go to work every day?

Posted by: Ashley at September 7, 2006 9:28 AM

wow - a milestone for both you and them. congrats...

Posted by: sharon at September 7, 2006 9:35 AM

I share your tears. I just dropped two out of three off to school. My son is now officially a first grader and goes all day. Our big tote full of legos are feeling your legos pain. The baby doesn't want to play with them. They sit and wait for the kids to come home. I miss the morning "dump" onto the lego blanket. Enjoy the quiet, get some knitting done. Becky

Don't tell them that this will be the rule for _at_least_ the next 15 years, which is about three times their whole life. Than it's either university or work. OOOW!

first day in Junior K for my daughter today...she cried :o(
and the playmobils are lonely too ;o)

Posted by: karen at September 7, 2006 9:51 AM

My guy will go to school next year and I'm already a bit sniffly over the whole thing. The lego interest has been waning around here. Don't know what the deal is.

You must tell me. Are those VW shirts? Where did they come from? Too cute.

*hands a tissue*

Look forward to more knitting time? I am a complete basketcase this week b/c my godchildren (in another state) started 1st grade and pre-K this week...I can't imagine what MOMS are going through!

Here's a virtual hug for the "legos" - {{HUG}}. (You know that's really for you, right?) Kudos to you for surviving the big day! :-)

Posted by: Mary at September 7, 2006 10:31 AM

I feel your pain, too. Seems like just yesterday I took my son to K-5. This year he started 9th grade, and he's taller than I am. It's all part of the parenting process -- you raise them so they can leave you and go out on their own. Knit them something...that always makes me feel better when my chicks are out of my nest somewhere.

I've been waiting for this picture all morning! Just think about how excited they are going to be when they get home!! Lots of stories, new people and places.. its going to be so much fun tonight too. And congrats to you Alison, for getting these two pretty amazing boys to this wonderful milestone!

Posted by: Dani at September 7, 2006 10:45 AM

Awww. What a milestone. Good luck, mommy!

Posted by: Julia at September 7, 2006 10:58 AM

It's so much fun watching your boys grow up on this blog. Thanks for sharing.

Now you have the Legos all to yourself until lunchtime.

Posted by: Juti at September 7, 2006 11:38 AM

How exciting for the boys and for Mommy! I'm sure they'll love school and you'll love some quiet time. How fast does time go??!

Posted by: Silvia at September 7, 2006 11:53 AM

I hope you're going to The Restaurant to celebrate this evening! Please eat some pickles for me. :)

Posted by: shireen at September 7, 2006 12:10 PM

Wow! How the years fly by!! What a big day.

Posted by: ruth at September 7, 2006 12:26 PM

just a question...in most pics, the boys wear matching clothes in different colours. is this your choice, or do they say they like it...think it'll change over the school year or not until they get older?

Posted by: helen at September 7, 2006 12:27 PM

oh man, they are SOOOOOO cute! :) best wishes on the first day of school, I'm sure they'll do great :)

Posted by: Meg at September 7, 2006 12:58 PM

And they're back at home already! Thank goodness, I was about to ask hubby to start making some noise in the office just to make me feel more at home in my own home. ;0)

Helen, the clothes are my choice. I don't dress them identically, but I do like it when it looks like they go together. The boys don't really care what they have on. B is happy when there's some yellow and S is happy when there's some red, so usually that's the combo I (or my mom) look for when we buy shirts. I imagine that they'll want to start wearing completely different things sometime. That's okay too.

(Mandy, these shirts are from Paul Frank's kids' line called Small Paul. I bet you can find them online.)

Thanks so much for sharing your boys' life with us. I'm sure you'll handle this milestone the same way you've handled all the ones before. First smile, first step, first words. (did they have the same, or different first words?) You should be proud of how your boys are growing up.

Posted by: Pamela at September 7, 2006 1:38 PM

Congratulations -- what a milestone. :)

Posted by: Leslie at September 7, 2006 2:30 PM

Thanks for sharing yout boys live with all of us they are so cute and growing so fast. This is a big step for all of you but you should be proud of yourself for doing such a wonderful job with them.

Posted by: lori at September 7, 2006 3:25 PM

Does Mommy get more knitting time now? Congrats on a big milestone.

Posted by: Kathode Ray Tube at September 7, 2006 3:31 PM

So cute! So brave! So (gulp) big! Congrats on handling this epochal moment with aplomb and dignity (tissues are extremely dignified).

Posted by: Lucia at September 7, 2006 5:54 PM

How sad:( That's gotta be hard for you to send your babies off to school. I hope they had fun:)

Posted by: beth at September 7, 2006 5:55 PM

Hurrah for school! We're looking forward to the report on how their first day went!

Posted by: shannon at September 7, 2006 6:07 PM

It's so fun to see everyone's first day of school pictures!

Posted by: Daphne at September 7, 2006 6:33 PM

Such big boys! Awww, they're so happy and proud. I hope they both enjoyed it and I hope they learn loads!

Posted by: Carrie at September 7, 2006 6:33 PM

Congratulations!!

My youngest starts kindergarten (all day) next Tuesday. All of them will be in school from 8 to 4. I won't know what to do with myself.

Posted by: Leisel at September 7, 2006 8:00 PM

i knew your first day picture was coming soon! Mine just started second grade-I really can't convince myself he's still a little kid anymore.

Posted by: Jo in Boston at September 7, 2006 8:34 PM

how cute ;o)

Posted by: Michelle at September 7, 2006 8:41 PM

That's a big milestone. I hope everything goes well for them and for you.

My boys are pretty big (10 and 12) so these kindergartners look so young to me now.

Posted by: LaurieM at September 7, 2006 10:22 PM

Awww, so cute! They look super excited. Hang in there, Mom!!

And I remember when they split me and my twin sis Cathy up...we were sad not to be in the same class. :)

Posted by: Carrie at September 7, 2006 10:24 PM

Awwww....how cute are they! I can't believe they're old enough to be in Kindergarten already!

Posted by: Kathy at September 8, 2006 12:28 AM

Oh what a milestone! It's so exciting isn't it?
I work in Kinder daycare program and it is so emotional just as the care provider.
I love it when school starts again - each day feels so full of promise.
Oh and don't worry - they will miss you. The 'new' of school will wear off and a balance will be reached after time.
Congratulations! Enjoy.

Love their matching shirts!

Posted by: Miss Scarlett at September 8, 2006 1:15 AM

congratulations on the milestone! (Does this mean more time for yourself, ie knitting?)

Posted by: Nathalie at September 8, 2006 1:50 AM

Omigosh! I can't believe they're so big already!

I saw the picture and got this weird little melancholy pain in my chest just thinking about when we reach that day - and my twins are only two!!

I hope they had a great day!

Posted by: Thorny at September 8, 2006 1:53 AM

Wow, I'm stunned. I thought they had another year at home! I still remember the day I put Max on the bus. He was the first kid on the route and that little blonde head barely peeking through the window was almost too much to bear. He was so young and a little scared, but brave as heck. Now that little guy is as tall as me, weighs almost as much as me, wears a bigger shoe than me and cranks the rock 'n roll in his room. Unbelievable, but also the biggest thing I'll ever do in life. Watching them grow is just such a privilege. Enjoy your quiet time, they'll be home before you know it!

Posted by: Kerstin at September 8, 2006 5:51 AM

I can still remember the first day of Kindergarten for each of my girls. It's easy to remember what I did - I cried!

Posted by: Hilary at September 8, 2006 9:15 AM

Aww ... man those are cute boys. What an exciting day. I feel for you though. My son is 25 in a couple of days, and this is the first year I won't see him on his birthday. I got married and moved from LA to NY and he stayed in LA. He's my dear buddy and it hurts bad.

awe, they are so cute in their matching dodge A100 shirts! wow, first day of school, what a big day!

Posted by: melissa at September 8, 2006 4:53 PM

My boys are starting kindergarten too. How fun! congrats on the new one as well. My Baby A and Baby B are the youngest of 5 (# 4 came with a bonus baby...). # 1 just started high school, # 2 just stared middle school and # 3 is in 2nd grade.

Great blog. I am thinking of starting one my self. I was looking for something to make with Rowan Kid classic yarn and found your site.

Take care.

PS: I have tons of mathing outfits in different colors as well, they just usually choose to wear them at different times. (I personally love to see them in their matching outfits).

Posted by: Rachelle at September 9, 2006 3:59 AM
