the pink blob

And I don't mean the little one growing in my belly (she's more than a blob by now and still may turn out to be a boy). No, I mean this yucky unspun, undyed section of yarn that has popped up right in the middle of the front of my hugs and kisses sweater.

can you see it in the top row of ribbing there?

Blech. I didn't even notice it when I was knitting that ribbing. Suddenly, as I was doing the cables, I spotted it. Arrrrgh! What am I going to do about it? Nada. I'll just make this the back and unravel a few rows of the already finished back, add the front neck shaping, and make it the front. The baby shouldn't mind a bit.

And no all this pink really isn't for my little one on the way. I honestly don't know yet if it's a girl and I honestly do have about 5 other babies to knit for right now (two or maybe three of whom are already here and impatiently awaiting their sweaters!!). Son't worry babies, I will not be deterred by one little pink blob!

Just saw that your preggers! Huge congratulations! Have no advice about the pink sweater, I'm still too much a novice to suggest a helpful course of action. Tears and swearing perhaps?! But then you wouldn't want to be a bad influence on Baby Knitsmith. Hmm...

Sometimes you can tease those blobs out. They are generally just a nep that got sucked into the yarn and aren't really attached that well.
Congratulations on the baby!

Sometimes I've managed to tug it and move the yarn, adjusting the stitches on each side so that most of it is in the back of the stitch....but sometimes the blob is to big for that and takes up the whole stitch front and back....It's a beautiful sweater!

Good call.

Have you tried double stitching over it with a bit of yarn or tacking it down with embroidery thread? That might help conquer the little blob. Overwise, the sweater is looking great!

I envy you for all the babies you get to knit for! Everyone I know is done having kids already! And those are lucky babies to get your beautiful handknits! :-)

I wonder if a little duplicate stitch over the fuzz would hide it, somewhat?

If you're going to have to do some ripping anyway ("I'll just make this the back and unravel a few rows of the already finished back") why not just rip back on THIS piece, cut out the offending bit, reattach and move forward, flawless?

wait--what? you're pregnant? oay, i go mia for...a month, and you're pregnant? well, congrats!!! Okay, now I go to catch up on your blog...

sometimes you can get those blob things out without a problem

good luck!

Yes, Marlene, good point, I see what you mean. That ribbing is actually done on US3 needles, whereas the rest of the sweater is on US6's. Somehow, psychologically, I feel more up to reknitting a bit of neck on a 6 than a bit of ribbing on a 3.

You haven't actually knitted very much of this piece, and its a small garment......forget that bit and start again.....if not, its right at the end of the ribbing...2 rows to undo at the most(plus the cabely bit) ........much easier than trying to remake the back!!!

Feel better soon! Love that you can still knit.
