Love these sweet booties. I will have to check out the pattern for our newest grand (a boy) due the end of January. Grandmas must knit for their little ones, you know! — I am also asking about the twisted cord. This looks like you started a rope but didn't twist tightly. Is that what you did, or is there some other trick?
Actually Carla, I just suck at making twisted cord. (And no I don't have a spinning wheel or drop spindle or anything useful like that, just my hands which are clearly lacking!) I have similarly poor pom-pom making skills. It's sad, but I live with it. I've got plenty of extra yarn to make another tie if I decide it's too pathetic looking. I feel confident that baby won't mind though! :)
Those booties are so adorable! I will have to check them out for our forthcoming niece or nephew (due in February). I love the different touches you've given to the boy and girl versions.
I have never been much of a bootie maker (not to be confused with "booty shaker" - which I'm not either) but those are so seriously adorable as to be tempting.
I hope that you get you 'druther (sex of the baby), but above all I will pray/hope/wish for the health of your new one. I had my own instincts with both of my children & I was right on both counts, but with Amanda I refused to buy any girl things until I caved for the cutest outfit in my 8th month. I was scared to jinx it ... I needed/wanted a girl so much!!! lol
Good lord booties are cute, and this is coming from someone who isn't a big fan of babies. If you turn out with a boy, you could always donate the pink ones to another soon-to-arrive baby.
Those are so precious Alison! That's nice that you can find out what you are having - for some reason you can't do that here anymore. (canada - bc)
Where did you get the pattern?
Ok disregard the question about the pattern - sorry!!
I hadn't read the previous post.
Apologies.

To make twisted cord for the booties that I have made, I usually take a long piece of yarn and double it over a door knob. Then I twist and then when the yarn is sufficiently twisted, I halve that and let it twist around itself. Then I unhook it from the doorknob and knot both ends.
Yes, Abby, that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm just doing it very poorly. ;0)
Oh my gosh, it just keeps getting cuter and cuter. They both look like food because they are so yummy!

Aw, how precious! But, I have to ask...are you sure there aren't two again this time? ;-)
Very sweet. That baby is going to be well dressed and very warm.
heh, I suck at twisted cord too. I think you need to twist in the direction of the plies - you've untwisted the plies which is why it has ended up like that.
both booties are adorable, although i'm very partial to that picot edge. so sweet!
i'm also twisted-cord impaired... for some reason they always come untwisted. for the last pair of booties i made i just braided the yarn and it worked great!
They're very cute! And while I wish I could offer some assistance on the twisted cord, I have a tendency to braid yarn or do a chain with my crochet hook instead of fighting with the twist...
Hmmmm. I guess I never thought about the twist of the plies. I made cord recently and just took off twisting, and twisting, and twisting... until it got really tight, then let it spring back onto itself. But now that you've said that, Sarah, I will pay attention next time. Thanks for the tip! BTW, I think E.Z. mentions that some electric mixers can be used to twist cord quickly (and that some will make a mess!). I've also seen directions to do it by tying it to an empty bobbin on your sewing machine and letting the machine spin it around, but I have tried neither of these.
It occurs to me that I made no sense over the bobbin thing. The bobbin will be on the bobbin-winding mechanism, not in the bobbin case where you have it to sew. You engage the winding function while your yarn/thread is attached to the empty bobbin. Sorry for my ineptitude at explanations.
The ply thing does sound sensible. But, if I'm hanging the yarn around a door handle, thereby folding my length of yarn in half, and twist both ends in my hand together in the same direction, won't I always be twisting at least one end against the spin of the yarn? Or am I just thinking this through too much?
I fear I will never understand. Oh well, I'm happy just being inept. I guess it's the aptly named i-cord for this idiot!
I agree with whomever said that they look like food -- they look like they're made out of cake icing! So perfect! :-)
So sweet, so gorgeous. Once I succeed with my fertility...which could be in like a few days ...but i'll only know the positive for pg in 2 wks, I'll be sure to pick up that pattern and the yarn looks mcdreamy.
