you asked for it, you got it

Yup, it's the beginnings of a Bee's Knees Knits sweater pattern in my pink/brown Trekking yarn, just like so many of you suggested I make in my sock yarn sweater post last week!

After lots of help from the queen bee herself (thanks, Holli!), I decided to make Candace first for wee-one-on-the-way to wear when she's still small. And I just happened to have some Shelridge Farm Soft Touch Ultra in a natural color (from Rhinebeck, of course) that'll be perfect for the back and the edgings.

So far the pattern is awesome! My only problem is that, for some reason, I was convinced from the picture that the edgings were all reverse stockinette stitch. They're not really, but once I got it in my head, I decided I really wanted it that way, so I changed the first sock yarn row to flip the edging. And unfortunately I'm not in love with the color sequence that's starting the bottom of the sweater. I want to see more of that dark chocolate brown! So I'm going to call the above half front panel a swatch and will reknit the first front panel starting at a different point in the sock yarn's color sequence.

Let the socky sweatery goodness begin!

Isn't it fun to play around with the details of baby sweaters in self-patterning sock yarn? I have made two more or less following the Opal pattern, and one following the Devan pattern (from Bee's Knees Knits). And I'm quite sure I will make more in the future.

The things you have been making for Wee One are so beautiful. The colors in this sweater are yummy, whatever the sequence of the stripes. She will surely be THE best dressed baby.

How much do I love this Trekking colorway? Loads.

Candace is so cute and see my littl girls' version of Candace (bigger than an infant cardie, mind you) on Holli's gallery pages: http://www.beeskneesknits.ca/gallery.html#

I love the Trekking colours you chose.

Chocolate brown + pink = winning combination! I love it! Your little babe will be so decked out!

I do that all the time, with socks--if I don't like the color of the picot points (I usually do a picot edge on top-down socks), I'll rip back and start at a different point in the skein. It can be dangerous, though, if you lose that extra yarn you pulled out of the skein to get to your new starting point. ;-)

On the page that you linked to, the description of techniques used in the pattern includes "reverse stocking stitch trim". That's probably why you had it in your head. ::grin::

Oh gosh, I'm already CRAZY in love with this sweater!!! I was SO hoping to do a similar girly sweater sometime soon but alas, my SIL and BIL had another sweet baby boy last Monday. Maybe my brother and his wife will have a girl in March?
I agree, I'd want more of the dark chocolatey brown in the sweater but I bet in the overall scheme of things, it wouldn't matter. The carmel-y brown really makes the colorway too, I feel.

This is going to be beautiful. I really like the colors and design. I'm afraid I don't knit. Have done some crochet. Seeing this makes me think about learning to knit! Good luck!
