sockapal-news-a

In case you missed my updated message in the sidebar, yes, there is finally news to report! My master webmaster is working on the database and sign-up system this week. Woo hoo!

We're making lots of changes so that the whole process can be more automated and I have more time to spend with baby L. For example, folks should be able to look up their sock pal's info on their own and even see who needs a sock savior without my having to send out dozens of emails. And we can all post our updates on a sockapalooza blogspot blog that wee one and I have been working on all weekend. Instead of me or sock sisters writing up "tuesday is knitalong day" updates, we'll be having Tuesday Sock Watcher days, where everyone becomes a sock watcher and is invited to post about sock pal socks they've seen and admired in the last week (other than their own, of course!).

Once the sign-up system is all ready, I'll let you know and everyone will have a couple of days to sign-up and get their preferences into the system. After the matches are made, you'll be able to access your sock pal's info through the database and get started knitting!

A few requests:
- let's have a show of hands here: should we have the send-off day be mid-July or early-August?
- send me any sock pattern or sock knitting links you'd recommend so I can add them to the sidebar
- if you are interested in offering yarn discounts to sockapalooz-ers, leave a comment or send me an email with the details so I can put it up on the blog

Let's get ready to sock!

I think I would prefer an early August send-off. It'll be my first regular swap and I'm starting a new job around then!
Thanks! Can't wait to start!

Posted by: Emily at March 27, 2007 9:30 AM

Early August sounds great to me. Thank you for doing all this, especially with a new baby. You're devotion to the sock is amazing!

Posted by: Tammy at March 27, 2007 9:53 AM

August for sure. I'm having a baby somewhere in the second half of June, I think I'll be much more "on my feet" by then :)

Posted by: Cynthia at March 27, 2007 10:01 AM

For me either day is fine - that will be plenty of time to get socks done. As for links, I want to do the Seduction socks on the Interweave Knits web page http://www.interweaveknits.com/freepatterns/

Posted by: Emmie at March 27, 2007 10:04 AM

August is better for me - I can't wait for a reason to actually finish a pair of socks...

Posted by: sharon at March 27, 2007 10:10 AM

I think August would be ideal, but I'll be joining in regardless!

Posted by: Flan at March 27, 2007 10:11 AM

First time sockapalooza-er here...August would be best for me. Here's a link to shamelessly promote my pattern...http://magknits.com/Sept06/patterns/snowflakesocks.htm

Thanks!

Posted by: Melanie at March 27, 2007 10:11 AM

i vote for august!!

Posted by: shireen at March 27, 2007 10:13 AM

August please!

Posted by: Carrie at March 27, 2007 10:15 AM

August would be better for me! I'll be on vacation in mid-July, probably taking pictures of my sockapalooza 4 socks in unusual locations...

You are so great to organize all this, Alison, and tell wee one we thank her for "helping" with the work!

Posted by: Dragonfly Judy at March 27, 2007 10:16 AM

August is better for me - I can't wait for a reason to actually finish a pair of socks...

Posted by: sharon at March 27, 2007 10:19 AM

woo hoo! I've been waiting and waiting for this to come! I'm going to have to vote for an August send off. More time to knit!

Posted by: catherine at March 27, 2007 10:19 AM

I have no strong preference as to date. If we're on vacation I'll mail from there.

I can't wait to get started!

Posted by: Lucia at March 27, 2007 10:21 AM

I like mid-August but whatever works for you guys.

Posted by: Darci at March 27, 2007 10:24 AM

either way there's a good chance we'll be moved by then I can't wait though. I've had a lot of fun the last couple of times.

Posted by: erin at March 27, 2007 10:25 AM

The inner procrastinator says August. :-)

Posted by: Elinor at March 27, 2007 10:30 AM

I vote August as well.

Posted by: Mindy at March 27, 2007 10:35 AM

You don't have to be a blogger to sign up right??? Cause I wanna play too.

Posted by: Dara at March 27, 2007 10:37 AM

I say August too! This will be my first sockapalooza and I just hope i can sign up in time.

Posted by: Lyndsey-Jane at March 27, 2007 10:40 AM

Either is fine with me :)

Posted by: Julie at March 27, 2007 10:42 AM

Oh, pretty please make it August? :)

YAY! ~revs needles~

Posted by: Liz Cadorette at March 27, 2007 10:44 AM

I also vote for August.

Posted by: Ridgeley at March 27, 2007 10:44 AM

Either is fine with me too, just looking forward to participating this time around!

Posted by: Beth at March 27, 2007 10:46 AM

I'm so excited. I've never done sockapalooza and have been looking forward to the start of the new one. I'm hoping I can get in on this one! Either month is good.

Posted by: Jenna at March 27, 2007 10:48 AM

Either works for me. I am very excited to start!

Posted by: Rachel at March 27, 2007 11:02 AM

I'm hoping to 'paloozalong this time and definitely vote for August. :)

Posted by: canknitian at March 27, 2007 11:03 AM

I'm voting for early August. Thanks for getting this going again!!!

Posted by: Dyann at March 27, 2007 11:08 AM

Hi.. is is too late to get in on the sock-swapping goodness??? Could you send me some more information about it?

Posted by: J. Denae at March 27, 2007 11:08 AM

August -- can't wait!

Posted by: pamela wynne at March 27, 2007 11:09 AM

August. My first two weeks of July are gonna be cwazy!

and YAY!

Posted by: Timothy at March 27, 2007 11:20 AM

I think (Harry Potter) that there's something (Harry Potter) happening in Mid-July (Harry Potter) that might impede (Harry Potter) my sock sending ability (due to distraction caused by Harry Potter), it might have to do with Hallows of the Deathly variety (July 21)or a movie or something (July 13). So I totally vote for early-August

Posted by: Erin in Minnesota at March 27, 2007 11:23 AM

I am soooooo excited about Sockapalooza, I just missed the sign ups last time. Either date for send off will be fine with me. Can't wait to get matched up and get going!!!!

Posted by: Lindsay at March 27, 2007 11:26 AM

Any time in August is fine with me.

Posted by: Dorothee at March 27, 2007 11:33 AM

*waving hand* I vote for August--all my wedding stuff will be finished by then!

Posted by: beverly at March 27, 2007 11:38 AM

I vote for August, just because I'll have a wee one very, very soon!

Posted by: Brynne at March 27, 2007 11:40 AM

I'd like to request August for the send-off date. Thanks.

Posted by: Leisel at March 27, 2007 11:43 AM

First sockapalooza here, I vote August!

Posted by: Tammy at March 27, 2007 11:43 AM

August works for me...
I soooooo Super-Excited for my Second Sockapalooooza Extravaganza!!

Posted by: Roberto Flores at March 27, 2007 11:50 AM

Hey, here's something NOT about sockapalooza -- saw your book had a mention in the latest issue of Premiere magazine! Congrats, I'm looking forward to it!

Posted by: Jen at March 27, 2007 11:55 AM

I'm a newbie-paloooozie - I vote for August! :)

Posted by: Saffron at March 27, 2007 12:02 PM

I vote for August since July is gonna be Harry Potter month. I can hardly wait!!!

Posted by: Angela at March 27, 2007 12:09 PM

I'll add to the overwhelming surge of people who would like an August due date. Don't mind July either, though, but I may be stuck with my nose in a book. Snape Is A Very Bad Man

Posted by: Kit at March 27, 2007 12:10 PM

Yee haw!! I'm soooo ready to "play" again! I don't have a preference for either month, I'm keeping the needles warm with several pairs at the moment, but nothing that can't be set aside in a heartbeat. Let the games begin!!

Posted by: SandyK at March 27, 2007 12:14 PM

August would be nice. Then, if there are warm and wooly socks, we wouldn't have to wait quite as long for the weather to be cool enough to wear them!

Posted by: Lana at March 27, 2007 12:21 PM

Er, mid-July would be nice... (she says in a small voice, since everyone else seems to prefer August!)

Posted by: Katie O at March 27, 2007 12:27 PM

oh, early August please...hay were you ever a Project Manager...you could sure be one.

Posted by: Orli at March 27, 2007 12:37 PM

My vote is for early August.

I'm in awe of your organizational abilities!

Posted by: Teresa at March 27, 2007 12:39 PM

I vote for August! July is a crazy month, filled with work deadlines, travel, and no less than a family reunion.

Posted by: Laurene at March 27, 2007 12:50 PM

I also vote for August. I will try and think of any new patterns. I would recommend both of the Sensational Socks books be added as resources.

Posted by: Mia at March 27, 2007 12:58 PM

August is my vote!

Posted by: Stacie at March 27, 2007 1:02 PM

Thanks for hosting Sockapalooza again! I'd prefer an August mail date. ***Alison, would you send me your email address? I have something I'd like to run by you, but would rather not put it on your comment page. Thank you.

Posted by: Kari at March 27, 2007 1:02 PM

Well, I can see August is winning, so I hardly need to weigh in - but I *do* prefer August. I love the idea of being able to check info ourselves, and you know how I love surfing through all those beautiful socks. Looking forward to it!

Posted by: Donna at March 27, 2007 1:03 PM

Woo-hoo! I've done the first three Sockapaloozas and have had a blast each time. Can't wait for #4 :-)

Posted by: Kathy at March 27, 2007 1:11 PM

My vote is August, too - I'll be moving, so that will give me time to settle in!

Posted by: Amanda at March 27, 2007 1:11 PM

August seems to be winning! I like that because it's closer to fall for many of us - we'll be able to wear the socks that much sooner!!

Thanks for starting this up again!

Posted by: Michelle at March 27, 2007 1:12 PM

I recall there being hints of a magical sock savior setup for knitters from the last round who never received socks -- like me! Is that still in the works?

Thanks!

d.

Posted by: Daphne at March 27, 2007 1:13 PM

I prefer knitting under pressure, so I'd say go for mid-July. But I have a feeling I am outnumbered. :)

Posted by: Sarah at March 27, 2007 1:19 PM

Mid-August please, I'll be a little tied up in Labor & Delivery mid-July (although if I have 40 hours of labor like last time I could probably knit a pair of socks during the process, eh?). I just bought my first (!) sock yarn ever yesterday and I am eagerly looking forward to casting on and becoming a sock knitter.

Posted by: Katie at March 27, 2007 1:37 PM

I'm voting for early-August, too. And I enjoyed the good chuckle I got out of Erin's Harry Potter comment! :)

Posted by: Amanda at March 27, 2007 1:38 PM

i'd prefer August, myself. The more time, the better. Plus I am working two jobs, and planning the September 1 wedding....but that's still not as much work as twins and a baby :)

Posted by: helen at March 27, 2007 1:40 PM

Woo-hoo! Thanks for doing this again - I'm psyched. I'd prefer an August send-off, please.

Posted by: Ina at March 27, 2007 1:44 PM

Streamlined Sokcpalooza here we come! And a July send off - YAY!

Posted by: Sonya at March 27, 2007 1:46 PM

I'd prefer August, but whatever is the majority opinion is, I'll work with it.

Ooh, I can't wait to starting socking!!!!

Posted by: Heather at March 27, 2007 1:47 PM

Yay! I'd prefer early (or even mid) August, since I'll be away from home in July.

Posted by: Jennifer at March 27, 2007 2:06 PM

You truly are wonder woman! A new baby, twin boys and socka-palooza.

This year since my web store is up and running, (Whoot!) I would like to offer $2 off per skein to any sock-sister who is participating. My web administrator will hook us up with a direct link to reflect the discount.

The web address is www.connectedbyathread.com.

I plan on dying 3 special yarns just for the socka-palooza.

Sock on Baby!

Posted by: Lynette at March 27, 2007 2:06 PM

August! Yay!!

Posted by: alyson at March 27, 2007 2:23 PM

Ooooh, I'm so excited! Early (or even a bit later) August would be fantastic :)

Posted by: adrienne at March 27, 2007 2:53 PM

Auguat, please ! And thanks so much for being Sock Central once again !

Posted by: Regina at March 27, 2007 3:01 PM

August, please! I can't wait to join this time. Have fun with baby L!

Posted by: Elizabeth at March 27, 2007 3:22 PM

August, please! Life is kind of rough and tumble at the moment, and truthfully, I could use every extra day possible to know whether or not I'll have the time and the money to participate this time around. (And I'll also be wandering around in the wilderness in mid-July, without yarn or internet access.)

Not that anybody cares about the reasons for my vote. But there it is.

Posted by: Rebekkah at March 27, 2007 3:24 PM

Yippee!! August, please.

Posted by: Meredith at March 27, 2007 3:28 PM

I have a suggestion for a sock pattern that I just saw knit up it it the Orchid Socks and Spring Grass sock over at Craftoholic's blog. Link - http://craftoholic.blogspot.com/2005/09/patterns-for-springgrass-orchid-socks.html

Posted by: Mia at March 27, 2007 3:38 PM

Wow, I have no idea why I thought I'd be the only procrastinator hoping for August. :) But, those of us who can't read and knit at the same time would probably prefer early August.

Posted by: Kate at March 27, 2007 3:38 PM

Either date is good for me.

By the way, I have hosted some group blogs, and it seems the "pain treshold" is around 50 people posting. After that it tends to get pretty chaotic... How about having a group of co-hostesses doing the posting?

Posted by: Kristel at March 27, 2007 4:05 PM

Oh my, you still have time to prepare that? Tough Mum :)

Posted by: Sibylle at March 27, 2007 4:27 PM

August please! I'll be in Scotland and England for my honeymoon for mid-July. :)

Posted by: Danielle at March 27, 2007 4:30 PM

Hooray! I've always wanted to be a sockpalooza-er! I think August would work out really well for everyone, me included! Can't wait to see the blog when its up!

Posted by: kelly at March 27, 2007 5:37 PM

I'm with everybody else. Early August please...

Posted by: Tawana at March 27, 2007 5:45 PM

Oohh....I won't miss it this time!
Anytime is good for me since I'll be having a 4-month summer break with nothing to do.

Posted by: yuvee at March 27, 2007 6:03 PM

Hmmm... I really shouldn't participate, what with my non-existant income... but I think I will anyway. I need to live life too! (And who knows... maybe if I'm lucky I'll be able to use stash yarn!)

Posted by: Andrea at March 27, 2007 6:09 PM

August please. Gives lots of time to choose sock pattern and yarn.

Posted by: Helen at March 27, 2007 6:16 PM

yay! either month works for me! can't wait!! :)

Posted by: tania at March 27, 2007 6:51 PM

I am so excited! I think August would be best as I'm stuck in the waffle-stitch mania of Thermal. Hope you and the baby are well.

Posted by: Makenzie at March 27, 2007 8:44 PM

i'm voting for august, lol.

Posted by: minnie at March 27, 2007 10:30 PM

Hm, I was gonna say "Please don't interfere with my HP7 reading," but then remembered that I tend to finish things early. So, any date is good for me.

Posted by: Rosemary at March 27, 2007 10:53 PM

any idea on an ETA for a start-date? i have a friend who dyes sock yarn, but she's having supplier problems right now. she'd love to do it, otherwise!

Posted by: minnie at March 27, 2007 11:15 PM

August please! I have a new baby coming in May...so maybe I'll be able to participate if I know I have a little more time. Can't wait!

Posted by: Angela at March 27, 2007 11:53 PM

August please! I'm so happy you're setting up another sockapalooza. Thank you!

Posted by: Angi at March 28, 2007 1:11 AM

Oh boy! I heard about this, and hope I get in. It's sounds like great fun! In the new Interweave Knits, there are these entrelac socks...hmmm. August here too!

Posted by: Dee at March 28, 2007 1:30 AM

The only way it will work for me is early August so that obviously gets my vote. :)

Posted by: Tiffany at March 28, 2007 1:39 AM

I vote for August as well and I am willing to give a 10% discount to sockapalooz-ers to my etsy shop: lavendersheep.etsy.com. All they would have to do is leave me a comment when they check out that they are a part of sockaplooza.

Posted by: Yvonne at March 28, 2007 1:41 AM

Horray! July would probably be better, since Socktoberfest happenes in the fall. =)

Posted by: Faith at March 28, 2007 1:42 AM

August. Please, please, let it be August (assuming I manage to get in on this round ...)

Posted by: blopeep at March 28, 2007 3:16 AM

Hi,

I would love to participate in Sockapalooza 4, especially with the final date in August, but I only have access to Regia and Meilenweit (once in a while Opal) would it still be okay? I don't want anyone to feel they got the shortend by using lucious yarns and receiving Regia (though there is Silk which is very nice).

Karin

Posted by: karin at March 28, 2007 3:32 AM

I think I might like to do a Sockapalooza! But if I did I think I'd prefer an early August send-off date to accomodate my slow knitting speed.

Posted by: Arianne at March 28, 2007 5:44 AM

I dont care, I just want to knit socks by the pool all summer ;)

Posted by: linda at March 28, 2007 6:35 AM

Another vote for August!

Posted by: reluctantmango at March 28, 2007 7:00 AM

August would also be better for me -- I'm hoping to have some extra "kids at camp or gramma's" time through July, perfect for knitting!

Posted by: Christene at March 28, 2007 8:23 AM

I vote for early August even though I can't wait to cast on. I love Sockapalooza, and was hoping you would be able to find a way to put it together, with everything else you have going on. My thanks to master webmaster, and most of all to you (and baby L for her help).

Posted by: Katherine at March 28, 2007 8:33 AM

First-time participant...I hope! August would be swell.

Posted by: Bonnie at March 28, 2007 8:41 AM

Makes me no nevermind. I'm looking forward to joining in the fun! I got to be a sock savior last time, but this will be my first from the beginning! Yay!

Posted by: Sandy at March 28, 2007 9:14 AM

First timer here! Ready when you are - can't wait!

Posted by: Melanie at March 28, 2007 10:55 AM

I vote for August - I'm a first-timer.

I'll be opening my hand-painted sock yarn online shop in a couple of weeks and will have something special for sockapaloozers. hmmm.. I'm working on some wonderful free gifts with purchase. I'll have details by mid-April.

Posted by: Jana at White Oak Studio at March 28, 2007 12:13 PM

You can definitely count me in for offering discounts on my hand-dyed and (some) handspun sock yarns at the farm blog (linked through my blog).

Alas, I have found another mum who refers (ever so lovingly) to the kids as 'Thing One' or 'Thing 2'.

Posted by: farm-witch at March 28, 2007 12:29 PM

I'd like to join this time, and would prefer August!

If you're not committed to a blog format for the updates, we could use a dedicated thread at my little knitting forum. It's free and doesn't require a moderator to add people to the list of participants.

Sockapalooza 4 thread at Knitters' Forum

Posted by: ShelbyD at March 28, 2007 1:19 PM

I will be a first timer and either dates would be fine with me.

Posted by: Frieda at March 28, 2007 3:07 PM

I would love to do this again! Of course, I think that August would give people a nice send off (for those still attending school - there will probably be a few), and more time to find the perfect yarn/pattern/etc.

Posted by: Seanna Lea at March 28, 2007 3:48 PM

Hi Alison :)
August will be great for me too, Swapetines will be over by then, with a bit of luck :)
No need to say that i'll love to sign in for this years' swap too :)

Posted by: Pilar at March 28, 2007 4:57 PM

August sounds good to me. Yipee!

Posted by: Jennifer at March 28, 2007 5:26 PM

August sounds wonderful. I am excited to get involved this round.

Posted by: Stephanie/lumie at March 28, 2007 11:31 PM

Hooray! I've been waiting for an update but can't believe your up for this so soon after the birth of your new sweet girl. (Congratulations, by the way! I think I was out of town when she was born.) Sounds like the new system should make things much easier on you this time, though.
Each time I've finished with the other exchanges, I've thought to myself, "That's it. I'm not doing another one" but each time you announce another one I can't help but sign up. I enjoy the knitting for others although it stresses me out a bit about getting the sizing right, and I cherish the socks others have made for me more than any socks I've ever made for myself.

Posted by: Siri at March 29, 2007 12:17 AM

Wonderful - I'll sign up!

For me, both dates are okay!

Posted by: Ali at March 29, 2007 12:47 PM

I like the mid August send out. With a new little one, I need as much time as I can get, but I want to participate as well!

Posted by: Halidays at March 29, 2007 1:20 PM

I'm new too! I just finished my first pair of socks and I'm totally hooked. August would be better- I don't knit very fast yet.

Posted by: Jennifer at March 29, 2007 5:16 PM

August sounds great! (You know, in case I have to buy yarn because I can't find any suitable sock yarn in my stash...hahahahahah!)

Posted by: Bliss at March 29, 2007 6:41 PM

August please!

Posted by: Julia at March 31, 2007 10:43 AM

August works better for me. I have some major responsibilites in the early summer and while I loved being a sock savior last time 'round, the pressure was not so much fun.

Posted by: Kaylee at April 2, 2007 3:35 PM

Yea! I was so worried I'd miss sign-ups while on vacation:0 I was also excited to come home to a pregnant friend with no local family. I am so excited to try some of these patterns you've buzzed through!
