and b makes three

He loves it!

In fact, he loves it so much, he wanted us to take more pictures of it. He laid it out himself and pointed out all its features: "this part looks like tire tracks!"

Then he flipped it over so we can all see how cool it looks on the back.

Finally, he brought it upstairs and put it into bed with his old blankie. Now remember, his blankie was not as ripped and shredded as his brother's. He didn't NEED a new blankie; he WANTED one. So, he snuggles into bed, cuddles with both blankies for a second and then says, "I think my old blankie is better." Then he says, "No, I think this one is better than my old blankie." Then S said it wasn't fair that B gets to have both of his blankies when he had to give up his old one. Then mom swore off blankie knitting forever!

Nah, we settled it all (B can keep both blankies for now, S understands that his blankie is too fragile to sleep with anymore and I will knit again) and everyone is happy.

Oh your boys look so happy! You are one awesome mom!

How cool is it that you can make the boys so happy with something that you love to do! Yeah!

Posted by: Johanna at April 5, 2007 10:06 AM

Those blankets are gorgeous! You are super mom.

Posted by: Oiyi at April 5, 2007 10:17 AM

Wow is that just camera angle or is S waaaay taller than B?
They are really fabulous blankets...

Posted by: Jennifer at April 5, 2007 10:26 AM

Those are wonderful blankets! I think you just gave me an idea for my boys Christmas gifts, I'm such a slow knitter still that I'll need to start now ;)

Posted by: Meadow at April 5, 2007 10:36 AM

Good question, Jennifer. It's mostly just the camera angle. S is also standing a bit closer to me. But S has always been about an inch taller than his brother.

Hilarious! You are a very good mommy to be knitting those beloved blankies. Do the boys pick the pattern/color?

Posted by: Rani at April 5, 2007 11:11 AM

You, my dear, are a very good mother as well as a very good knitter! Love the picture of the boys!

Posted by: Tammy at April 5, 2007 11:13 AM

Great blankets. And I cannot believe how grown up the boys look all of a sudden.

Beautiful blankets! And the boys love it! That's great!

These blankie posts tug at my heartstrings EVERY TIME. Our two boys never got into blankies like I did when I was little so it's very sweet to see this.

Posted by: Siri at April 5, 2007 12:36 PM

I love the blankets! I wish I have more people to knit for (and more yarn to use!)

Posted by: beckie at April 5, 2007 12:49 PM

so cute. lucky boys.

Posted by: erin at April 5, 2007 12:56 PM

And boys have tangible evidence of how much mommy loves them - baby sis hasn't taken her completely away from them. Cute blankies & adorable boys.

Posted by: Donna at April 5, 2007 12:59 PM

Cute. My son's blankie(purchased before my knitting days)is basically just the silky part--he literally loved it to pieces. Your sons are lucky you are able to create new ones for them :)

Those blankets are precious and those smiles are priceless!

Posted by: Jennifer at April 5, 2007 1:11 PM

When I first opened your post I thought - How neat! She knit a Ukrainian flag!

Very nice blankies.

Posted by: ladylungdoc at April 5, 2007 1:17 PM

They are SO cute!

Posted by: Melissa at April 5, 2007 3:07 PM

Hey boys....do you think your mom will knit me a blankie.. um I think I want green and blue...ok.

Posted by: Anne at April 5, 2007 3:29 PM

The boys are getting so tall! They are beautiful boys, and their baby sister looks just like them. You are a lucky Mom.

Posted by: Katherine at April 5, 2007 3:58 PM

Gosh, they're getting big! And those big smiles with their new blankies -- priceless!

Posted by: Mary at April 5, 2007 4:07 PM

Phew, that was a close one! I thought for a minute there that you were going to have to knit ANOTHER one! HeeHee

Posted by: carrie at April 5, 2007 6:34 PM

that picture where he's all curled up - awwwww! I miss my blankie!!

Posted by: Carrie at April 5, 2007 8:29 PM

Aw, that second photo is terribly cute! The bit about S. reminds me of when I was little--my sister and I were both blankie kids, and when our blankets became too tattered to sleep with, we put them into pillowcases so we could still cuddle them in pillow-form. Of course, we didn't have a knitter mom who could be prevailed upon to make us new ones...

Posted by: utsusemi at April 5, 2007 9:08 PM

LOL. oh dear. they are such cute boys, and Alison, you are such a DIPLOMAT, you should come help our country out one of these days. LOL!!!

Posted by: Orli at April 6, 2007 3:45 AM

btw, the finished Blankie looks fab...the white works!!!

Posted by: Orli at April 6, 2007 3:47 AM

I love those colors. You make blankie-knitting look fun!

Posted by: Julia at April 6, 2007 7:35 AM

Alison, that's just how they made Hagrid look so much bigger than the kids and Gandolf seem so much larger than Frodo. See, you're a cinematographer!!

Posted by: Jennifer at April 6, 2007 11:47 AM

It is wonderful when knits are so well received. The blankies are great.

Posted by: Sarah at April 6, 2007 2:36 PM

Those blankets are wonderful. I just love the colours.

Your children are adorable by the way!!!

Posted by: Kris at April 6, 2007 2:58 PM

The boys look super-happy with their new blankets. You did a wonderful job on them. :)

Posted by: Amy at April 7, 2007 4:52 AM

It's interesting, their push-pull between being the "same" and individualizing themselves by their color and style choices for their blankies - similar, yet different.

Posted by: Mary K. in Rockport at April 7, 2007 7:24 AM

And, I just love those mouthfuls of big boy teeth!

Posted by: Mary K. in Rockport at April 7, 2007 7:26 AM

I just love the stitch pattern in the blue part of B's blanket. Those little boxes just fascinate me. I have a question, if you think this doesn't fringe on copyrights...Are those boxes accomplished with twisted stitches? I cannot afford the book, Sarah Dallas Knitting, but would like to find a similar stitch pattern.
