leaving no leaf or heel unturned

Finally back to work on the embossed leaves for my sock pal. Still following the pattern as published (yup, with the special cast on... did you see that the designer commented that she didn't actually use that cast on for hers? thanks for the clarification, Mona!), I've worked my way down the second leg and am ready to knit and turn the heel. Then just a few more repeats of those fabulous leaves and I'm done! And just in time, because I've found yarn and pattern for my second sock pal (for a forgotten pal from the last round).

Waving lace (the cover socks from Favorite Socks) in Louet Gems fingering weight merino coming up next!

I knew I saw that book somewhere. I just got it at a birthday present from my MIL [of all ppl]

Oooh! More pretty socks.

The embossed leaves are lovely. I knit up that pattern without the special cast-on as well. I also, love the cover socks and enjoyed knitting them recently. All in all that is one of my favorite sock books!

I just bought this book the other day and you are knitting two of my favorite patterns from it!
The Embossed Leaves look beautiful, nice knitting work! And I love that color...

That Louet yarn is wonderful to knit with. They will look great!

I would agree with changing the cast on. I knit it with the pattern cast on and it's a bit tight for a sock. What kind of special cast on did you use?

Those are gorgeous! I just finished a pair in Koigu, a beautiful periwinkle color (don't know the color number at the moment). What did you think of the cast-on? I loved the start of it, but found (for myself) that knitting two rows back and forth before joining in the round just made the edge messy. I had to sort of seam that part and the sock is tighter there because of it. I plan on making a pair for myself since they were my first lace socks and I love them, so I think that I will try to instead do the first two rows in the round and just convert the pattern to accomodate the rounds. Any ideas from your experience with it?

Beautiful leafy socks!

ooh love the gems! waving lace looks like a nice pattern. I'm really into your green embossed leaves.. Gonna have to make another pair!

You have to stop showing me those embossed leaves! Too many projects...must not stop to make socks...no matter how pretty! I really am losing the will to fight!!!

I'm using that same color of Louet to make the Austrian Socks from the same book for my sock pal :)

Waving Lace has been my standard sock pattern for years. Fabulous!

I'm making the Waving Lace socks right now! It's SO pretty....I love the color you chose.
I dyed the yarn I'm using and I accidentally got almost the same color as the cover socks. It's a little darker but still. I'm doing the opposite of you, I'm making the Embossed leaves next. I have some lovely chocolate colored yarn in my stash...I might use that!

Waving lace will look great in that yarn! Can't wait to see it. I'm taking a short break from my second Go with the Flow. The pull of the Monkey was too great...

That second yarn is so pretty!

I just pulled out my Favorite Socks book to look at that cast-on. Very odd. I can see how IK might feel it was easier to include instructions for the 1x1 cast-on instead of the tubular cast-on, but then they should have you join into a round right after that and just start knitting the twisted rib. Those two rows with the slip stitches are really part of the tubular cast-on and seem out of place left in there.

How cool! That Gems looks so pretty. I've been coveting that color for a while but I have some Lang Jawoll in something close to it. The Land just isn't as pretty... *sigh*

Yours leafy socks are beautiful. After wearing out the yarn trying to get the cast on suggested by the pattern, I gave up and did a normal long tail cast on. It looks fine. I agree that the plain heel needs something. Perhaps on my next pair, I'll try to add in a leaf.

Oh, they are such pretty socks! I am almost finished my pair too!

Those socks are just too beautiful. I can't wait to have free sock needles! I've got to try knitting that!

I think the green socks are so great! I will have to make a pair!

I had to cast on a pair for myself after seeing yours. Mine were started with the 1K1P cast on, but then I left of the slipped stitches and just joined and started K1 P1 to go with the cast on. I have just finished the ribbing and did the first pattern row this morning while waiting for MyGuy to be finished with his morning preperations.

Yummy yummy, those leaves look refresingly green! I really think they are going to be some wonderful socks.
And I think the second sock pal socks are going to be stunning with that pattern in that yarn. You are going to make someone very happy!

I'm using Gems in a turquoise right now for a Favorite Socks pattern, Retro Rib Socks. It's great! Have you thought about trying that pattern?
