This is one of my all-time favorite knitting abbreviations. I love how the very formal order "make" is followed by a silly little word like 'bobble'. (Can't you just imagine Captain Picard from Star Trek saying 'Number One, make bobble.') Plus, I enjoy making bobbles. Which is a good thing because this dolly bag ends with a ton of bobbles!
I also really enjoy Eeyore, um, I mean EOR as an abbreviation. And pwise is pretty funny to say too. Then again, I may enjoy knitting patterns a little too much.

I recently saw a tutorial video on "knitting backwards" and I've been practicing on my chevron scarf. On Saturday I decided to whip up a Mason-Dixon washcloth, and had to "make bobble" several times. What a pleasure to make them without turning the work! Makes me feel just a little bit brilliant! The shorthand "k2tog" always makes me smile.
Maybe this is out of line, but mb sounds like something that wee one does in her diaper besides wee ;)
You mean besides pwise? ;)
"Number One...Make Bobble"- that just makes me giggle! The WIP is looking great- still loving that red color!
Teehee, now I'm going to imagine Picard solemnly intoning all sorts of knitting abbreviations!
You know, when you put it that way, it sounds just a little kinky... and very funny.
LOL, it puts making bobbles in a whole new dimension.
Pickard -- No. 1 -- bobble -- LOVE IT!
You just enjoy words! My sister and I have the same weakness. We are forever emailing each other with new "definitions" of words or just words that tickled our funny bones.
Oh yes Carol, you're right! My favorite word ever is shenanigans. So fun!
My sister's name is Mary-Beth, so her nickname, of course, is MB!
I, too, love making bobbles. So fun!
LOL!!
I'd like to hear Sean Connery's young bond say "make me a bobble...shaken, not stirred"
Or Clint Eastwood "Make my bobble"
LOL...oh, I crack me.
Such fun with language. You started my day with a smile. :-)
I laughed out loud at the Star trek reference. I can *totally* hear him say that.

You are funny - you made me laugh!
I think you and I are one of the few who actually made this bag as written....all the others I've seen around Knitbloglandia have omitted the bobble bind off. It too forever after my renewal but I did finally get the celery color.(pic on my side bar if you want a peek)
Cute bag. I also read abbreviations with a smile. I love your pronunciations.
Alison, I just found your blog (from the back of Charmed Knits) and just wanted to let you know how much I love your book! It really is a great collection of HP knitting patterns and its just fun to read! I'm a college student and on the fifth day of my summer job as a camp counselor, I broke my leg, so now I'm at home with nothing but time to knit! And your book is keeping me very busy! Thanks for all the hard work you put into it! It really brightens my day! -Michelle
Ha - I had never thought of it that way. Now I'm sure to giggle and think of you everytime I see mb. It looks gorgeous!
I know I'm knit-addicted because my mental vocabulary instantly changes ordinary things into the knitting terms we knitters know. I was behind a car and the last three letters on the plate were "ssk" and I thought, oh, slip, slip knit. I was daydreaming...
And at Trader Joe's they had chopsticks and my foggy mind was literally thinking they had knitting needles THERE?
On another note, I made your Bellbottoms a little while ago for my grandbaby( who is only five lbs at the moment) and matched it with the "Harvey Kimono" in white("Natural Knits for Babies..." book) and what a great little combo! Too bad you don't have a gallery!(hint, hint)
