baby dress: step one

Get bee-u-tiful little fabrics from purl patchwork and quilter's way.

Get the perfect pattern (in this case, perfect means embarrassingly simple).

Start cutting.

Oh My Gosh, I'm so excited. I can't wait to see L in this dress.

Top 5 favourite L pics

5. Marshmallow hat

4. Emli hat -- can't see her eyes

3. Little red bag -- cutely adorable

2. Green dress -- adorably cute

1. First real nap -- all is right with the world when a baby naps

That is just too cute. I can't wait to see the finished product! The sewing bug has gotten into me recently, as well. I'm currently working on this little gem http://simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=4304 for my 15-month old. But for some reason all of the ideas that I have in my head are only available in out of print patterns! Thankfully they can still be ordered!

I like embarrassingly simple. Especially for sewing. That is sure to turn out well. Can't wait to see it!

Oh, boy -- love that fabric. I think it is soon to be a painfully cute dress!

Oh! Those fabrics are heartbreakingly cute!

I'm with Suzanne on the simple issue. Baby things are harder to sew just because of their tiny size. Besides I love the look of a cute little dress with clean lines in a great fabric. When my younger DD was about a year old, I made her some of those little outfits that were so popular for baby girls in the 70's - the front shaped just like the pattern you have & then the back criscrossed with cutaway styling & they fastened with buttons at each shoulder - very clean lines but a bit of interest in the back. They had matching panties (which peeped through the cutaway in the back). The pattern I had was reversible so I made it with a solid color on one side & a coordinating print on the other & 2 matching panties - one solid & one print. They were so cute & still comfy for baby. And, since it takes so little fabric to make a baby dress, I was able to make them for next to nothing with end of bolt scraps which the fabric store sold for a mere fraction of the regular price. Hmmmm - maybe I'll see if that patten is still available & make some for baby M for next summer.

pretty material ... can't wait to see the sweet dress it will become!

I had a "I know a Celebrity" moment today ... even though I only know you through lurking on your blog! I live in a VERY, VERY small town in rural Nova Scotia, Canada, and was poking around in our town's only drugstore ... and there on the shelf in front of the knitting magazines was Alison Hansel's "Charmed Knits" -- not just one or 2 copies ... there were at least 12 there!! I waas quite amazed (I have never in my life seen a knitting book for sale there!). I was stunned, then impressed "I know you!" I thought as I leafed through it, "and I have seen some of these patterns on the blog!" Tee hee! Kind of a neat experience!

nothing embarrassing about simple. I'm working on some a-line summer dresses for my little girl too. I just finished cutting out fabric for 2 dresses a minute ago.
I don't really like busy, frilly things on little kids. nothing can compete with their perfect little faces and bodies anyways, so what's the point, y'know?
