scenes from the yarn house

Wee one in her Brooklyn General onesie asking me, 'when are you going to make me that denim pinafore, mommy?'

And here she is asleep in her swing cuddling with big brother B's little blankie. Lesson for big brother: if you don't put it away, the baby's going to think it's hers.

Big brother B comes to me and says, 'mom, I'm making a lego contraption and need some yarn'. I think we can manage that....

His little Lego man needed a parachute, so we grabbed some yellow Opal sock yarn to attach him to the tissue parachute. Then Lego man got popped into the contraption, that got hung on some more yarn (dk cotton this time) draped across the room and when the contraption hits a certain point on the line, out he falls through the trap door.

Oh yes, we're all about the yarn here.

Awww.. what a cute baby. I love that even your kids have a growing love of yarn.

Definitely about the yarn! Cool.

Your kids really know how to use a good blankie. Too cute!

Bahaha! The boys just used my last little bit of lavender Koigu to make kite strings. They were lovely kites, I have to say :-)

What a great invention your son's come up with. I'm glad you're ready to contribute yarn to the cause.

thanks for the book link. we have legomaniacs here, and i always give them a lego-related gift at christmas and birthdays, and birthdays are coming up!

Ah you are much nicer than I am. When my ds tells me he needs some yarn, it's the acrylic stuff or some cotton that I give him! :)

We have that same swing/high chair. It's the best isn't it??

Hey, is that a PURPLE Lego? When did that happen?

Awww, what a sweetie that little one is. And a neat colorway for the Opal yarn! I'll have to search around for the bright yellow, but it would make a great sock for my favorite college team!

Hi Alison,
A few days ago I sent you an email to the knitsmith email address. Did you receive it? If possible, I'd really like to chat with you about it.
Thanks,

Yarn & Legos ~ perfect together!

What a sweet little lady! She's a cutie pie.

Love the yarn parachute. My 3 year old finds lots of neat things to use yarn and needles for too!

Clever use of sock yarn, that boy!
Oh, yes, sock yarn scraps are used for endless reasons around here, often play related. And why not when it's always on hand and often the easiest thing to find at the moment?
Last year when our then 6 year old wanted to the "tie the loose tooth to the door and have someone slam it" trick, what did we use? Sock yarn, of course. It worked like a charm, and I think the length is still tied to the office door in DH's wood shop where the extraction took place.
While out on a hike recently, bent cedar twigs and sock yarn from a ball that just happened to be in my pocket made for makeshift bows (as in bow and arrow. Not ribbon.)
