vaca knits

So what did I knit while on vacation?

It's another dolly bag, knit in pink this time and with the few changes that I wanted to make last time. I added four stitches to the total width, allowing for one purl between the diamonds and the cables at the widest point, and also changed one of the cables to twist in the opposite direction so they twist toward each other. It was already the cutest thing ever for a little girl - and now it's just a little bit better.

So what do you make after you make the cutest thing ever for a little girl? Well, the cutest thing ever for a little boy.

It's the striped denim hat from one of my fave books ever, Itty-Bitty Hats (it's the inside of the white denim hat with dots pictured in the book). It hasn't been washed yet, so it's still a little long, but it is such a handsome hat!

These are both gifts (overdue gifts!) and are likely to be my last little projects for a while. After 5 months of the limited time and even more limited energy of new mommy-dom, it's time to make something adult sized again. Yup, the vacation's over.

Those are both great! So cute :)

Those are great! Boy, I can't get over how different Big Brother looks. They do grow up fast!
BTW did you see the Lego Man that washed ashore in Holland? (There's a link to the photo and the video at my site if you haven't.)

I love the cute little purse! Have to keep that in mind for when the little girls I know are a bit older.

I thought the dolly bag was cute in red, but the pink is adorable! Love it!

I've been craving a "real" knitting project lately too. Have you picked something out? I'm thinking about Jared's Cobblestone Pullover from the latest Interweave Knits. Yummy! (In a WAY brighter color)

"Cow knits?" I have to admit, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the word "vaca"...

How cute, and that dolly bag is especially adorable!

I love the dolly bag. I think the lighter color helps make everything (cables and bobbles, bobbles and cables) just pop! I know you said it was a Rowan pattern. I'll have to see if it is available for sale.

I have that book and can't find a striped denim hat in it. I like the changes you made to the "dolly bag". I would like to make one as a sock in progress bag and think it would be a nice quick way to practise cables. Is it possible to get the pattern somewhere?

you've just hit the nail on the head with why I like to knit the kid knits--so small, so easy to finish in a short amount of time. Adult knits--such a huge committment :)

The bag is SUPER! Thanks for sharing!

Melina, the pattern is actually for a two sided denim hat. One side is white with blue dots and the other side (which you can only see flipped up on the brim of the first side) is this blue striped hat. I didn't want to make two hats, so I just made the blue stripe one.

Hope this helps! :)

Oh, I really love the pink version of that dolly bag! Any idea if the pattern is available anywhere?

Posted by: Mary at August 9, 2007 8:56 PM

WHERE can I find that pattern for the dolly bag?? I have been looking since I first saw it posted in your blog... Inquiring minds want to know....

Posted by: Mary - aka coastergirl at August 9, 2007 9:06 PM

Hi Mary(s)! I asked the US Rowan rep in charge of the Rowan International Club to see if the dolly bag pattern was available anywhere for purchase, but she said it was an exclusive for last year's subscribers. Sorry! Know any Rowan subscribers?? ;0)

Posted by: ALISON at August 9, 2007 11:44 PM

You're right, your version of the bag looks better than theirs. It turned out great!

I can never get enough pics of your kids, so adorably cute!

Pssst, what about the tiger, bunny and bee?

I hope they don't read the blog yet.

Posted by: Anita at August 10, 2007 1:55 AM

Correction: the bee became a lion.

Can't wait to see your adult project. I can highly recommend that Cobblestone Pullover someone else posted about. Fab, easy and adult sized - even in the charcoal grey I'm using! Yarn's on sale at Webs....
