packing up

What a day for the blog server to go down - the deadline to finish your sockapalooza socks! Things seem to be working again now, so UPDATE THE DATABASE and POST TO THE PLIGG about your finished socks. There's no need to notify me personally by email about your finished socks. You need to update your own info in the database - I can't do it for you. Remember to update the info again when you send your socks out and then again when you receive your socks from your pal.

So far we've got 63% finished - awesome! That percentage on its own may not look so awesome, but when I think that that's almost as many people as participated in the entire sockapalooza last time, all finished on time, it really is impressive! Those of you still working, keep at it and send out those socks as soon as you can. And contact your pal to let them know that the socks are a little delayed, so they won't worry.

My two pairs of socks are all ready for packing up and mailing. I would have sent them yesterday, but, like my webserver, I was knocked out as well. I got hit by a mean cold that was either floating around in the airplane or waiting at home for me. I spent the whole day freezing and then sweating and using everything and anything I could get my hands on as kleenex. Not the best time to kitchener up the last toe of my second pair of socks and dash out to the post office!

Well, they're almost done and excited about their big trip. Both pairs of socks were something new for me and a joy to knit. The waving lace socks are truly lovely.

I hope my pals enjoy them!

UPDATE: According to the database info, 629 people have finished their socks, almost 400 pairs of socks are flying their way around the world right now, and over 100 people have already received their socks. Hooray!

Hey, if you're all done knitting and want to make more socks, there will be folks who'll be needing sock saviors in the next few days and weeks, so check in on the database to volunteer to be a sock savior. Thanks!!

UPDATE 8/9: Wow, you guys are really finishing like gangbusters! We're now at 66% reported finished, just under 50% reported sent, and almost 20% reported received. Sockapalooza rules!!

Aack-I've never figured out the pligg thing!I mean, I signed up and I do go over and read others' progress, but I can't figure out how to post...sad, I know. I did send out my pal's socks yesterday, FWIW.

Oh that's okay, Holly. The pligg is for those who want to share their progress and links to other socks they've seen. But if you couldn't get the hang of it, that's fine. I hope if you do sockapalooza next time, you'll give it a try though. It's fun!

Alison - I've loved watching each and every moment of Sockapalozza 4 - and I adore hand knit socks, but I just can't get the hang of DPNs. Will there be room in a future Sockapalooza for those of us who loom knit fashionable short-row or gusset heeled socks? I'd like to think that this time next year I'd have gotten the kinks worked out with the needles, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Many thanks.

Okay, what the heck are loom knitted socks? If they come out like regular knitted socks, then sure you can join!

i actually received a lovely card from my sock pal apologizing for being late, because she took a new job that is a time sucker. i'm still on track, as my pal is on vacation, and gave me permission to mail them after she got back!

I think this whole knit-blog-world is amazing. Where else would you find this many people willing to make something and then get rid of it? It's so neat that you set this whole thing up.

My pal's socks are in the mail, as are the socks my super secret sockpal made for me. Now I just have to wait to hear from my pal and for my own package to arrive. :) Very exciting!

I also just got back from a trip and caught a cold. Not fun! Hope you feel better soon!

Well, since you've yet to be initiated, I'd like to be the first to invite you (and anyone else who is interested) to visit the home of the Loom Knitters Circle Magazine http://www.loomknitterscircle.com/
Our lovely Isela (a recent Knitty Gritty presenter) has a spankin' awesome pattern for a pair of socks there for your enjoyment. We also have many Yahoo Groups, if you'd care to look too.
:-)

I was too late to sign up Sockapalooza, but would still like to volunteer to be a saviour, is there some way of doing this?

Posted by: Lee-Fay at August 8, 2007 8:02 PM

Alison, I've tried several times on several different days to update my information but never received a link to the website. My socks have been finished and sent. I guess that brings the total to 40.1% of socks finished!

When is sockapalooza Five? Missed the deadline for four and hate that!

I haven't heard from my pal in 3.5 months and so far there's been no sign of any socks in my mailbox. How long before I assume the worst??
