ever have one of those days

Where you know that the only thing that will cheer you up is knitting a silly wig hat for your baby?

Almost done and I can barely stop laughing long enough to finish it!

Can't wait to see Wee One model it! Those wig hats are hilarious.

Can't wait to see this. Maybe I'll do one myself!

Posted by: Carol at September 18, 2007 5:06 PM

Oh dear. That reminds me of babytoupee.com. You have to see that!

Posted by: Heather at September 18, 2007 5:10 PM

Well hey now, that is a good idea until she sprouts more of her own locks! :-)

You can knit up different hair styles too. I challenge you to a bouffant!

Posted by: Laurie at September 18, 2007 5:33 PM

I can't wait to see it! Hehe.

I tried cutting the pattern down for my six year old, but ended up making it very close to the adult size (after frogging it three times). How did you cut yours down?

Can't wait to see the baby from the front.....

Don't complain when she puts you in a nursing home.
(But if I had a baby, I would knit one too.)

Posted by: Judith in NYC at September 18, 2007 6:33 PM

I love it! I need a reason to knit one of those!

Posted by: Chelsea at September 18, 2007 6:42 PM

This is hilarious! I've always wanted to make this. How did you adapt it for Wee One's head size? You must show us when you finish! Although, don't you dare keep copies of the pics after you feel sufficient time has passed on your blog. Confiscate all proof - if you let her future boyfriends and/or friends see these, she may never speak to you again. ;)

oh my! what we put our children through for a good laugh - you owe her one when she all grown up and sees what you did!

Posted by: debbie at September 18, 2007 7:21 PM

I love that hat! It always reminds me of Joan Cusack in Toys.

My nine yr old boy wants to know if they come in a mohawk pattern.

I had no idea this kind of thing existed.

Please, please, please have her model it, pretty please.

*snort*

PLEASE show modeling pictures! Please.

Posted by: Sarah at September 18, 2007 8:37 PM

Oh man. I cannot WAIT to see a FO pic of that. Hilarious!

Posted by: kelly at September 18, 2007 9:50 PM

Oh, I am lamenting the fact that my children are now far too old for me to be able to get away with putting something like that on their heads!!

I'm with Debbie! She will get you!!

I think it is hilarious that you are knitting that right now! One of my good friends has a 5 yo boy and a 3 yo girl. Well, the 5 yo just cut his sister's hair to the scalp this weekend. I read about it today on her blog and offered to knit it for her daughter! How funny that you are knitting it right now for your wee one!
I love it for little bald babies, so cute! My girl has too much hair...but I bet she'd love it anyway!!

I just added the Hallowig to my Ravelry queue. I can't wait to see what yours looks like. I thought it would be great fun for Halloween :o)

Posted by: Stephanie at September 19, 2007 1:11 AM

Great idea! Are you changing the size to make it smaller? You just gave me a wonderful idea for my daughter for Halloween!! :)

Posted by: Samantha at September 19, 2007 7:06 AM

Actually, I'm planning to knit the same thing up for my DD for halloween because she wants to be Dora! :-) (she's a blondie)

Posted by: Michelle at September 19, 2007 8:03 AM

That's a great idea, Michelle! I'll have to remember that in case wee one wants to be Dora in a couple of years.

I love it when a project gives me the giggles!! It's usually with stuffed animals who are all limp and floppy before being stuffed. The directions for Bobbi Bear from Blue Sky Alpacas are hilarious--directions for Head, Body, Butt! Butt! I'm knitting a Butt! It's too funny. Then there is "sew crotch hole together" which isn't as funny, but still.

I had totally forgotten about that pattern! I can't wait to see the FO. I have several little girls to knit holiday gifts for, and this might be perfect. :)

Posted by: Jennifer at September 19, 2007 10:39 AM

I made one last year for Halloween for my 4 year old daughter.

last week it was chilly in the morning, all the hats from last winter were too small, my 8 month old baby girl wore the wig to go to school -

I'll send you a pecture if you want ;o)

Posted by: karen a toronto at September 19, 2007 11:50 AM

Yay! We made that too, as part of a Halloween costume. When your daughter gets too old to willingly wear the things you make, just keep in mind that as a late teenager, she probably WILL want you to knit again. The Hallowig is really fun to knit (and wear.)

That totally reminds me of the episode of Designing Women when Suzanne bought a baby wig for Charlene's bald baby so she could enter her in a beauty contest. Too funny.

Hello, I am new to knitting so I am hoping that I may get a little help-I want to make socks. Looking for a great pattern and some patient soul who is willing to get my thru my first sock. I want to do them on circular needles. I am guessing that I would need 16 inch circular needles. Whoever is willing to help me it would be great. Thanks

Posted by: Clintona at September 19, 2007 1:32 PM

I have so wanted to do one of those for ages. Now I can't wait to start. Thanks for being so inspiring, Allison.
