wee sock monster

Sock brothers Jordan and Gordi have a baby sister!

Made from a pair of Ozone knee highs that always fell down and bagged at my ankles, Prune is smaller and much sweeter than her big brothers.

Based on "Owlsley" from Stupid Sock Creatures, she's got cute pointy ears, felt eyes (no buttons for the baby!) and a ribbon tag of hair for hanging her on the baby's stroller. The knee high gave me so much fabric to work with, I couldn't resist making her a pretty dress to match her little purple shoe feet. And of course, the contrasting colored heel of the original sock really makes that funny sock creature mouth stand out. S insisted that I make her smiling, so I curved up the edges of the mouth just a bit.

Next to wee one herself, I think she's just about the cutest thing I've ever made!

Your children are going to have the best 'memory boxes' of stuff to look back on when they're all grown...so lucky to have such a good Mommy!

Awesome!! She's surprisingly cute. Didn't know monsters could be so attractive.

You are getting w-a-a-y too good at this sock monster business! Prune is the cutest thing to come along since Wee One!

Posted by: Katherine at September 24, 2007 9:57 AM

Oh my goodness, that is the cutest thing. And the felt eyes give it the perfect look!

Posted by: Alexis at September 24, 2007 10:23 AM

Oh my gosh! I really do think that is the funniest, cutest sock monster I have ever seen. I'm 22, does that mean I am too old to make myself some silly sock creatures to play with? I hope not. Thanks for sharing this!

Posted by: Mary at September 24, 2007 10:26 AM

She is adorable. She has lots of personality!

Posted by: Sherry at September 24, 2007 10:29 AM

Had to delurk to publicly admire!
Jordan and Gordi are awesome, and their baby sister is just beyond words! What a great sock to use, and you made such creative use of all the wonderful and varied parts!
I am not much of a sew-er, but I'm feeling the need to check out those sock drawers! There's some argyle socks (that go way back but don't stay up any more) that may have a future....

Way too adorable! I think I'm going to have to break down and make some of my own now, my sock monkey is getting lonely!

Posted by: Jes at September 24, 2007 10:42 AM

Delurking to say that is possibly the most adorable creature I have ever seen. There are no babies or toddlers in my life right now and yet I am itching to make one of these delightful creations and a pair of Saartje's booties. Fantastic stuff!

She is gorgeous in a homely sort of way! Nice job. Now, I am getting inspired again to finish the sock creatures I started months ago.

I love it! Cool sock to start with, too! Much better use than constantly pulling it up ;-)

Posted by: Sarah at September 24, 2007 10:51 AM

Are those not the PERFECT socks for sock creatures? wow!

Posted by: lori a at September 24, 2007 11:16 AM

Those are great socks, but I think they look better as a monster with a fancy party dress!! I seriously NEED that book!!!

Posted by: Rachel at September 24, 2007 11:23 AM

Super adorable! Congrats on the craft zine blog mention, too!

Wow! That's adorable - you could start your own sock monster cottage industry with monsters like that! Cuteness abounds!

This is so cute, soooo cute. I love that mouth!

Awww! That is the cutest sock monster ever!

Posted by: Sarah at September 24, 2007 3:23 PM

Great sock creature! But you need to call her "Prunella" instead of just "Prune." It's much more sock-monster-y.

Posted by: jenn at September 24, 2007 3:43 PM

How adorable!

Posted by: Andrea at September 24, 2007 3:53 PM

You outdid yourself, Alison!

I love that S was a consultant.

Posted by: Anita at September 24, 2007 4:17 PM

she's so cute!! what awesome socks to make a wee creature out of XD Great work!

Posted by: elizabeth at September 24, 2007 4:21 PM

Those sock monsters are just the cutest! I guess I will have to have one ;-))

Just a quick note w/o clogging up your inbox: I mailed my sock savior socks today and my substitute pal knows about it :-)

Posted by: Petra at September 24, 2007 4:23 PM

I love seeing all of these. I have a tendency to keep my socks well after they've developed holes (It's like I keep hoping the holes will magically disappear), so I might want to keep this in mind for when I want a quicker craft than knitting a pair of socks.

My 8 year old walked past the laptop when this page was up, burst out laughing and said 'that's a funny sock!' It had her approval for sure. I might have to start hiding your creations from her - she'll ask me to make her some too.

Adorable! You couldn't pick a better sock to make a creature from, and I love her eyes.

Posted by: Carrie at September 24, 2007 10:37 PM

I LOVE her big purple lips!

Posted by: Laurie at September 24, 2007 11:51 PM

I have to say that upon opening your blog and seeing wee one's sock monster, I just thought that smile was so cute. I really dont think they are all over cute, but this one I really like.
