shhhhh... don't tell the boys

They've completely forgotten about the tiger and lion stuffed animals I'm supposed to be making for them. I started the little animals in the summer, put them aside for a while and promised to finish them for Christmas. Since I'm actually still not done with all my Christmas crafting, I figure they're not really late yet. But as technicalities like this are usually lost on the boys, I've tried to sneak in a few days work on them so there's some progress to show in case they happen to remember!

The pattern has you work your way up the little animals' bodies, starting with feet and shoes (oops, forgot them for the picture!), then legs and back and the pieces I've just finished up, the arms and tummy. Next comes the head (in two parts) and the ears. Then the nightmare of sewing all these tiny pieces together.

I think they're going to turn out to be pretty cute though.

In July, that is, when I'm finally all done with them!

I am not a big fan of assembly, either...

I have a few projects like this (were like this mostly means a ton of finishing work). They are unfortunately for my husband who doesn't forget them and has an unfortunate habit of mentioning them when I least expect it.

Which probably means I should work on the backpack I started during the Knit Olympics...

They are just too cute but all those ends! Can they just be stuffed inside or do they have to be woven in? I should finish the little doll I started for baby M last summer - esp since she said "I love you" to me for the first time yesterday (could anything make a grandma's heart melt more than a 14 month old saying that in her baby slur - esp when accompanied by a big hug?). She has really started toting her "babies" around since Christmas.

I kind of like sewing that kind of stuff together, because you start out with this crazy-looking pile of pieces and after a little sewing, you have an adorable stuffed animal!

Good luck with keeping the boys distracted until you're done.

ah, but one of the nice things about knittine stuffed animals is that you don't have to weave in the ends! just tuck them inside :) no one will ever know.

Hi Alison,

I was wondering where you found the pattern.

Thanks,
Caroline

Caroline, the pattern is from a Sirdar book called "Things to Make". Check ebay and I bet you'll find a copy! :)
