9 little monkey blocks jumping on the bed

I've been playing with little monkeys on the bed all weekend! I waited until I had a whole evening to dedicate to sewing, arranged all the pieces of my funky monkey quilt on the bed and sewed them up into 16" blocks.

I love this part of the process. All those little bits come together to make big bits and then the big bits come together to make even bigger bits and so on and so on. It's so satisfying. Way more so than, say, sewing up the pieces of a knitted sweater. Sorry, I love to seam up sweaters, but it's just not as neat and geometric in its progression as this is. Plus, it would be way hard to knit a little monkey butt as cute as this into a sweater!

Wow, wonderfull, how do you get the sewing that even?

I LOVE that last pic! I think I must have a thing for cute little butts.

Fantastic.

That is just flat out adorable! Love that last little bicycling monkey butt.

That has to be the cutest quilt I think I've ever seen. Those sock monkeys would make any non-morning person wake up with a smile on their face. Especially the cycling monkey!

Aw, my daughter's favorite book! Love those monkeys. Your lines are so straight. I always struggle to keep my seams lined up perfect when I use many sizes. Very, very cool!

So bloody (is it OK to swear just a teeny bit?) cute! I'm using the photos from your blog to free-form knit a sock monkey hot water bottle cover. Hmmm, where to place the ears?

I love the monkeys! I have one thing of cute monkey fabric (for lining the intarsia backpack from Stitch 'n Bitch), but I've never gotten around to doing anything with it. I hope that I get to make something as cute as this with it.

So fabulous! What's a good book to learn how to quilt if you've never done anything quilt-related before?

Posted by: Kristine at April 2, 2008 3:27 PM

It's fantastic! I must now quell the urge to run out and buy up all the monkey-related fabric in the land, as I really do not quilt.

Totally awesome quilt!!!

I love the monkeys. It's the most perfect quilt!

Delightful! I really like the way you've placed all of the blocks.

I'm really loving the way that your quilt is coming together. I love the same thing about quilting as you do. I love that when you are done with the blocks you can lay them out for a preview...and then sew them into strips just to lay them out for another preview. I love that tangible evidence of what's to come. It's very motivating.

Love this quilt and how it is coming together. The fabric is just adorable! Can't wait to see it all done. Maybe I need to get my unfinished quilts back out and work on them...maybe.
